I really hate to ask this, but... what strings for P bass?
Lozz196 replied to Bonzo's topic in Accessories and Misc
I think Baloney hit it nicely on his thread, nickel rounds - with eq can do a good approximation of either flats or steel rounds. The expensive but long lasting option for me is Elixirs, or the less costly Ernie Ball Super Slinky, both incredibly comfortable to play. Being a Precision I’d look at 45-100 gauge. Given the pickup placement the G&D to me benefit from having a slightly smaller E&A, balances it out a bit otherwise the G&D can sound a bit twangy in comparison. -
There’s one up for grabs on here at moment (not me selling it btw)

Great news, I’ll bet Ollie is very happy -
Your always on secret magic tone sauce pedal?

I’m pretty much the same but with the Para Driver, Dave, no matter what I try I just keep coming back to it. -
I think I’m pretty much set at present, at some point I might look at getting a 5 string bass but that’s only if the band I’m currently in start doing songs where a fiver makes more sense.

Horses for courses really, imo all of Tech21s gear is great, it’s just a case of establishing which fits best for the individual. In my case, as in my last band I needed a twangy overdrive sound I found that their Para Driver, which has sweepable adjustable mids was the right one for me. I suppose the first thing is, when you used the Bass Driver could you get what you wanted from it? If so then stick with it, however if there was anything you wanted that it couldn’t do then research their whole range, they’re bound to have something that suits.

Hopefully Bill, Phil or Stevie will assist on this, as they have great technical knowledge, but if they fit I really like Eminence Betas. Horses for courses, there may be/probably are better speakers out there but I just really like the sound of them.

Ashdown ABM410-EVO-IV would be my suggestion. Sticks with the same brand and the EVO-IV version is much better imo than previous versions. That said if your current 610 isn’t too much to cart about there’s a good Fender amp & 610 on here for silly money, buy both then move the amp on, got yourself a great cab.

That’s a good point, Doddy. I try to learn the tracks as they were written to improve my playing - done that a fair bit this year. Sometimes as you say, depending on situation the correct line might not work - Whitesnakes Fool For Your Lovin being a good example, on the solo the bass line just gets in the way imo, so I root note it, and let the guitar shine through.

Tech21 Para Driver, preamp/DI with regular eq & gain but has sweepable adjustable mids making it very versatile. -
My book about being a bassist is published..!

Finished it a few days ago. A great read. -
How much of the Ampeg sound is the amp and how much the cab?
Lozz196 replied to la bam's topic in Amps and Cabs
Dunno what model/version it was but I used one 810 at a gig and it was sooooo bassy, just a wamph of low end. Had to back lows off virtually all the way, and had to boost hi mids & highs virtually all the way. Only Ampeg cab I’ve ever used that sounded like that, -

Yep, Eminence drivers are used quite a bit, think Barefaced use them and their cabs aren’t particularly Ampeggy. -
This reminds me a bit of when I tried out a bass at the London Bass Guitar Show. I played Warhead by The UK Subs (with a pick of course) and quite a few passers by looked at me in horror, as if that wasn’t what the instrument was meant for.

Advertising for a band member of a specific gender / age group
Lozz196 replied to mrtcat's topic in General Discussion
Agree. It’s your band, pick who/what you want. -
I use a Wenger rucksack, plenty of compartments, including one that takes my Pedaltrain Nano (in its own carry pouch) quite easily. Very hardwearing too, used it pretty much weekly for a 3 year period and still looks virtually new. The good thing is having all the compartments I can keep amp/speaker leads in one, instrument leads in another so I’m not scrabbling through a mess of cables when setting up.

Me too. On Mex Fenders & Squiers I usually change the baseplate to a Gotoh 203, retains the look but just that little bit more stability, plus you keep the original saddles/springs from the stock BBOT.

I just love listening to people who can sing.

Lady Ga-Ga, without posting any of her music (as I’m not particularly keen on it) she is one hell of a singer. -
Same, I love Tech21 gear, it does sound good in that demo.
