Now Sold Made to standard Fender US spec, CTS solid shaft pots, Switchcraft Jack, .047uF cap. Less than a week old, still boxed/unopened as have changed my mind about changing pickups hence the sale. £35 inc delivery in UK. -
Elixir strings on a (rosewood) fretless.

No experience with fretless but the Elixir rounds, both steel and nickels are plenty bright enough. Not quite as crisp & shrill when out of the packet as uncoated, think after a few hours of playing. And from there they retain the sound much better, my most played bass at present has had a set of nickels on it since around Jan and there’s plenty of zing/life left in them. I have the steel rounds on a Precision and the nickel rounds on a Jazz, both rosewood boards. -
I work for a government owned company in facilities/health & safety, so considered an essential worker, and with a lot of work/challenges over the last 6 months. Who knows what the future will bring but I’m hopeful on a personal note that my job lasts until I retire as I enjoy it.

In my old covers band our guitarist was always late for rehearsal. Didn’t matter what we said or did he simply wouldn’t get there on time, however no problems with gigs where it counted. Some people simply can’t be punctual, in your place EJWW I’d give them a probationary period of day 2 months. If they can’t maintain it for 2 months long term it will never happen.

Secret of a good live album is a good live performance with a good producer type person on the sound. From what I understand The Sex Pistols had their Never Mind The Bollocks producer/engineer doing the sound for them at Finsbury Park for their Filthy Lucre album. I was there for that gig and the CD really captures the performance. Don’t really hear any overdubs on it.

In my brief ownership of a Stingray I kept all the eq on the bass flat and put it through my Para Driver. Nothing wrong with the eq on the bass but I wanted some gain/overdrive so needed the pedal for that, so figured use the eq on it as well. Plus given my cack handed playing style I’m not that much in favour of having any controls on my instruments in any settings other than full off, full on or on a centre detente as if I nudge them when playing difficult to gauge exactly where they were before if not as above.

Fave cab I’ve ever had was my Marshall VBC412, though my Ashdown ABM410 EVO-IV wasn’t far behind.

Some form of Spector with two soap-bar humbuckers or a dual humbucker Stingray would be a good place to start.

I’ve found that with the gear I’ve had that had presets they were just too full-on, and the levels of the preset effects needed reducing by at least half for my tastes.

I think you’re right Ted, I have lighter gauge strings on my Jazzes than on my Precisions and I enjoy playing those more as a result. I think after years of my style being hard hitting/hard fretting I’m going for the easy life from now on.

Protection Racket or Mono. Mono get sold on here a fair bit so can be picked up at fairly good prices and imo are the business.

Yep, I think Markbass cabs pair very well with passive Precisions but there’s no doubt that Barefaced are a step up.

I had one of these, best amp I’ve ever had. If I were in a gigging band I’d never have sold it. Powerful, incredibly versatile, and light enough to carry about easily. -

When I saved up to buy my first bass, £45 which was a fair bit of dosh in 1980, my Mum & Grandparents bought new my first amp. Other than that nothing at all, but help at the start is worth much more imo. -
In my old covers band the guitarist had that very same rig, sounded great but what a ‘mare to move about. He ended up with two Marshall 1x12s and if I recall correctly an a Orange Terror amp and was just as loud as before, but sooo much more practical.

I reckon it would have in the hair-metal late eighties.

I used one years back, with the matching 4x12 and it was loud enough for indie/rock covers with guitar (Les Paul & Marshall half stack), drums & keys.
