Genuine recognition of Ernie Ball's
Lozz196 replied to Tony Ruckledge's topic in Repairs and Technical
From what I’ve read later more recent models are quite light, but go back a few years and you’re invariably looking at 9lbs plus. -
Looks great, the ones at LBGS were as said, silver & shiny, held 3 basses, and I really liked the look of them. For touring I’d think they would be amazing, instead of 2 or 3 hard cases you have one, on wheels, which doubles as your on-stage stand.

Or “this is how much appreciation you’ll get whilst everyone thinks Weller is a genius”.

So how are those penned off gigs working out?
Lozz196 replied to EBS_freak's topic in General Discussion
Yes, and the thing is you’ve established what they’re doing, why haven’t the authorities. We’re not talking about being spoilsports and ruining peoples fun, we’re talking lives. -

Sad but true, but it’s also based upon respect for authority and discipline, to which there’s pretty much none around nowadays as nothing will be done to either the participants or organisers, so they “do what they wanna”. Put that many motorists together however...., -
A good bass into a good amp. Nothing else needed IMO!
Lozz196 replied to dave74200's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think the thing with effects is that many over-use them, to the detriment of the instrument being played. I watched a vid on YouTube about Mick Mars of Motley Crue and the amount of effects he used on his core tone was pretty substantial, but each when analysed seemed to add only a minimal difference. However when all added together the tone was much bigger than the guitar on its own, but it was difficult to identify what was doing what. Now certainly in MMs case he sounded much better with all the effects layering, but if any one of those effects had been more prominent it may well have ruined his sound. I suppose what I’m trying to say is maybe less is more, and it’s the over-use that people like Dave and myself find we aren’t that keen on. -

@dave74200 you are not alone, I often find that when I hear a bassists tone that I really like it’s usually bass/amp, possibly a compressor but that’s it. Similarly I often find that said tone that I like will usually sound a bit meh and insipid on its own, but work so well in the mix. -
Fender Rumble, Ashdown Perfect or Tourbus, Ampeg BA, all great little amps.

I’d go for the Player, based on having had one and thought it really was a step up from previous MIMs.

Did music lessons at school help with your musical life?
Lozz196 replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn’t say so as I had the interest in music already, knew what I wanted to play and it wasn’t what was being taught in the general classroom. I took bass lessons to find out what the notes were, then quit and taught myself via a Never Mind The Bollocks (by The Sex Pistols) song book. -
I always state on Gumtree no PayPal, no bank transfer, no postage, and that enquiries containing the aforementioned will not be responded to. And should I receive an equity containing any of those I stock to my word.

Moving on from my earlier post, I think if I was in the position where I had to sell up and start afresh I’d get a Fender Jazz Bass (I know, me a confirmed Precision player for years but I’ve recently realised that the Jazz is more versatile for me across a whole range of music) and whatever lightweight head/cab Ashdown we’re doing at the time.
-
I did sell up all of my gear once, but replaced it essentially with smaller/cheaper items from the same brands. And since then accumulated a lot more/sold a lot more, so it didn’t really work out.

Agree, just looks superb

I’ve had three Stingrays, only noticed a weaker G on one, and it was only when I strung with nickel strings. It was fine with steels and flats, just slightly weaker when the nickels were on it.
-
Just seen that, one of those lines that when seen played looks so much less complicated than it sounds like it would be to play. I think I’m going to have a go at that. And back on topic, yes good playing, sone nice material listed.

Indeed, I met him a few years back when we were both on the same show and he seemed a very decent chap.

Jason Newsteds abilities were wasted on Metallica
Lozz196 replied to shoulderpet's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes, and it might seem heresy saying this, but especially in a 2 guitar band having a not particularly loud bass can work quite well. I think AC/DC would have suffered had Cliff Williams been louder in the mix (am not knocking Cliff here btw, I think his bass is great). Not a particular Metallica fan so can’t comment too much on their material. -

Wanting a change for no readily apparent reason?
Lozz196 replied to MacDaddy's topic in Amps and Cabs
I’ve changed amps many times in the past due to just wanting a change, however in recent years I’ve only changed for specific reasons/identified improvements. Nothing wrong with a change now & then, keeps us feeling fresh. -
I’d say keep both, I also have the Tech21 Para Driver, yes it’s similar to the VTDI but for me it’s slightly harsher and more modern, much better for the punk that I was doing, whereas the VTDI suits the classic 70s rock better. In the mix would anyone apart from me tell, probably not but I’m def keeping both.
-
I wouldn’t want an instrument where the serial number doesn’t tally up with the colour coding as moving it on if necessary may be more difficult as a result. It looks to me that PMT should sort this properly but their on-line operation does seem to be a little unorganised.
-
Imo it’s the right tone - and level in the mix - for the song. Really fits it well.
-
Lots of stuff in there I don’t know, but given the pedigree of those players I doubt I could disagree much.
-
I’ve recently bought a Tech21 VTDI and it has that spongey valvey feel to the sound. It really captures it well and I can appreciate what the valve amp users on this thread mean, the sound and how it reacts to playing dynamics is a fair bit different, and I suppose depending on viewpoint more rewarding.
