  1. Is weight of gear an issue? If not then, as you’ve used Ashdown I’d look at one of the ABM heads and a matching 410. For £700 you’d be able to get the ABM600 which is imo easily their best one so far, and the 410 as well. Plenty enough volume for the types of venues mentioned , reliable, hardwearing and if there should be an issue they’re UK based so easy to get it sorted.
  2. Really like that, both song and vid.
  3. If it was a live show I’d be tempted to agree to no dosh, then play So What by The Anti Nowhere League, just to learn ‘em a lesson.
  4. Yep, in Glen Matlocks book (he of The Sex Pistols) he says that everywhere else in the world musicians are treated fairly, even royally, whereas in GB once you’ve finished playing it’s “you’re in the way of the disco, can you eff off now”. Some UK promoters really get it, but they’re few & far in my experience, whereas play in Europe and you’re treated very well indeed, to the point of contacting you before the gigs to establish if any band members are veggie/vegan/have any food allergies. In some places in the UK you won’t even get a bottle of water to go on stage with.
  5. Frank Turners cover of a mate of mines Xmas song, Merry Xmas you C..ts is also worth a listen, as is the original (please don’t play at work or in company of kids/easily offended)
  6. You learn something every day, I didn’t know you were related to GM, Mick.
  7. Same here.
  8. Yeah I’m itching to put it through its paces, roll on the vaccine!
  9. I’m playing 70s/80s Classic Rock, Led Zep, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake etc. Not a gigging band (haven’t even got a singer) we just rehearse once a fortnight and have a laugh. It’s great and has made me a better bassist as some of that material, well they had to have been on drugs to write complicated bass lines like that!
  10. Yes, I find if using a preamp pedal then I keep the amp as clean as possible, but if bass to amp then valve drive on full, thickens up nicely and adds in some great harmonics to the sound.
  11. Same here Mick, been considering adding a fiver in for a while now.
  12. I’d say they’re not quite as bright sounding. I’ve found that the ABM cabs seem to have more lows and are a bit fuller sounding - but that’s at gig & rehearsal volumes.
  13. Only had a chance to try at home volumes but so far I’d say yes. I got one cab on Sat and when I plugged it all in and hit the strings on my Jazz I got a soppy grin on my face which says to me the ABM sound was in the house.
  14. So, the last piece of the puzzle turned up today, and I now have an Ashdown ABM600 EVO-IV and two Ashdown ABM210H EVO-IV Pro Neo Cabs. Nice and portable, plenty light enough, and that lovely Ashdown ABM sound.
  15. Adding to Bills comments, I also find it can depend on the other instruments in the band too. My Precision is just “in the way” in my current band comprising humbucker guitar and keyboards, like they’re all competing for the same sonic space so the Jazz gets the job, sits beneath them nicely.
  16. They are great basses, I very stupidly sold mine, but at a gig used one from another band as my bass had a fault (always take a backup, doh) and it was a pleasure to play. I’m sure many of us would snap one up if/when available.
  17. It’s funny that for some reason while I never really liked The Smiths I did quite like some of Morriseys solo stuff. Always thought he was a bucketful of odd though.
  18. I had a bit of an issue, their website kept saying purchase not accepted, so after two attempts I contacted my card issuer who said no, both purchases I’d tried had gone through. At that point alarm bells rang for both me and the issuer so we cancelled both purchases (the ones the site said hadn’t gone through). I e-mailed Muziker re the cancellation, and their response was that the transaction was fine and I should soon receive my item. Well I didn’t, and no surprise really given that I’d not paid for it.
  19. Not to forget turning half of Europe into the world’s biggest open prison.
  20. They are very good, I received a bass in one of these last week. Pretty much indestructible I’d say.
  21. Carry on My Wayward Son by Kansas. It’s a tricky one, with timing changes & plenty of different parts in it. I can play them all it’s just remembering them all and the order they’re in.
  22. The black/maple Jazz made by these guys on Reverb looks really nice, and sounds good too.
  23. Nice one
  24. I think that’s the main issue, whilst people have the option to break the rules they will, the only way to remain safe until all this ends is to remove the option.
