How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Lozz196 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
My current gigging band only rehearses when either we’ve got a gig coming up - we only do about 10 a year, if that - or if working on material. As we’re a garage punk type band it doesn’t hurt to have a slightly loose feel and fortunately when we do get together there isn’t anyone lagging. -

I have to admit, to my shame, that in my younger years I didn’t look after my bass (in the 80s I only had the one) at all. Our guitarist was always commenting on the state of it. Gunk on the fretboard, action really high, intonation not set, I just didn’t look after that bass at all.

That’s a lovely bass. I wonder though, if any of the people who walked past when the photo was taken thought “ah, shame he can’t afford a Fender, maybe one day”.

In 1987 I went to buy a Fender Precision. It would have been £325 but they didn’t have any in stock. A pint back then was about 65p so that was the equivalent of 500 pints. A pint now is around a fiver and a US Fender Precision is £1800 - equivalent of 360 pints. So either Precisions or pints have got cheaper!

With all of my basses I find that I have to set the pickup heights to the point where the low G doesn’t boom then adjust accordingly so the other strings match in volume. I never get boom on any of the other notes/strings. This has been the same across Precisions, Jazzes, Mustangs and Stingrays and with many different amps & cabs.

There is a sub-section called Wotzit Worth for this very purpose, way down in the For Sale section, did you put your post there or in another section?

I got stopped back in say 2012, got the usual where have you been, have you been drinking, when did you last have an alcoholic drink etc, I replied “not being a smartass, Sep 14 2007”. Thank you sir, on your way, have a pleasant evening.

When we used to go on tour I was amazed that the guy who did the driving was as much use as a one-legged man in an ass-kicking competition when it came to packing the van. I suppose it`s like anything, some have skill-sets in certain areas and some don`t, but you`d think that when it`s your day job even if at the start you struggled you`d learn a bit along the way.

Very professional packing.

Sadly some pubs don`t do their research, in my old punk band we played in Gateshead on the same night that Stiff Little Fingers were playing in Newcastle, as such barely anyone there. The landlord was moaning about "once-a-year-punks" going to see the big bands but there were plenty of other dates we could have played there and probably drawn a decent crowd.

I’d love to try IEMs out. Whilst I love the old school feel of big cabs etc I can’t say it’s my preference when in comparison to something I’ve never tried.

Agree, decent price for those two

Is a new mass-produced bass ever worth more than £1500

Agree Chris, I`ve got a couple of cheaper Mustang basses and up against my JMJs there is a difference in sound, the JMJs being fuller sounding. I`ve noticed this on the Andertons "Sound Like" series - the difference when they do the same bands on the By Busting The Bank compared to the Without Busting The Bank is usually quite apparent, with the By episodes being fuller sounding with usually a much smoother top end. -

With those t&c’s I’d be looking at distant selling regs 🤣 -

Shameless plug here but I`m selling three black JMJs at the moment (£1000 each), all have been shielded. Great basses, they really are as good as they say (imo better), sadly arthritis in left thumb forcing the sale. -
That sounds like a great rig Gareth

Yep, today I’ve bought a 2nd hand 2008 Mex Strat for more than I paid for the exact same model new in 2008. Only a few quid more mind, but there is one on the bay at double what I paid today. -
Well done Mart, yeah can’t see anyone noticing that one, will blend nicely into the background………

I think we went to the same school……

I`ve found them to be very helpful too. They had two stores, one in Hertford, one in Harlow, I think the Hertford one has gone now.

Nice one, Rebellion is great and you’ve got some good bands on your list there (SLF, Dirtbox Disco & SV being my faves on it).
