  1. Hopefully Bill, Phil or Stevie will assist on this, as they have great technical knowledge, but if they fit I really like Eminence Betas. Horses for courses, there may be/probably are better speakers out there but I just really like the sound of them.
  2. Ashdown ABM410-EVO-IV would be my suggestion. Sticks with the same brand and the EVO-IV version is much better imo than previous versions. That said if your current 610 isn’t too much to cart about there’s a good Fender amp & 610 on here for silly money, buy both then move the amp on, got yourself a great cab.
  3. That’s a good point, Doddy. I try to learn the tracks as they were written to improve my playing - done that a fair bit this year. Sometimes as you say, depending on situation the correct line might not work - Whitesnakes Fool For Your Lovin being a good example, on the solo the bass line just gets in the way imo, so I root note it, and let the guitar shine through.
  4. Agree, Hugh is certainly very good, I love playing his (the ones I can actually play) basslines.
  5. Tech21 Para Driver, preamp/DI with regular eq & gain but has sweepable adjustable mids making it very versatile.
  6. Finished it a few days ago. A great read.
  7. Dunno what model/version it was but I used one 810 at a gig and it was sooooo bassy, just a wamph of low end. Had to back lows off virtually all the way, and had to boost hi mids & highs virtually all the way. Only Ampeg cab I’ve ever used that sounded like that,
  8. Yep, Eminence drivers are used quite a bit, think Barefaced use them and their cabs aren’t particularly Ampeggy.
  9. I saw an online tutorial with Slash and he admitted when he got to one part he always ad-libbed it, so he had actually had difficulty in teaching his own guitar part.
  10. This reminds me a bit of when I tried out a bass at the London Bass Guitar Show. I played Warhead by The UK Subs (with a pick of course) and quite a few passers by looked at me in horror, as if that wasn’t what the instrument was meant for.
  11. Agree. It’s your band, pick who/what you want.
  12. If I can establish the exact line then I’ll learn it, but depending on the band line up I might simplify if required (1 guitar with widdly solo when original band had 2gtrs etc).
  13. I use a Wenger rucksack, plenty of compartments, including one that takes my Pedaltrain Nano (in its own carry pouch) quite easily. Very hardwearing too, used it pretty much weekly for a 3 year period and still looks virtually new. The good thing is having all the compartments I can keep amp/speaker leads in one, instrument leads in another so I’m not scrabbling through a mess of cables when setting up.
  14. Best check out Dirt Box Disco then 😁
  15. Me too. On Mex Fenders & Squiers I usually change the baseplate to a Gotoh 203, retains the look but just that little bit more stability, plus you keep the original saddles/springs from the stock BBOT.
  16. Ears, if they like I like. I don’t care about genre, era, band, artist, if the ears approve that’s it. My only filters are I won’t listen to anything extremely political (both sides) or religious. At that point I don’t care how good the music is, the lyrical content tells me no.
  17. Lady Ga-Ga, without posting any of her music (as I’m not particularly keen on it) she is one hell of a singer.
  18. Same, I love Tech21 gear, it does sound good in that demo.
  19. I use the Sansamp Para Driver. It’s pretty similar to theit Bass Driver, but has sweepable adjustable mid-range, and a selectable filter that removes all the sub-bass frequencies. Also like the Bass Driver it has the blend control so it’s a very versatile pedal.
  20. My findings have been to only buy wireless kits where the transmitters are bugs that plug directly into the instrument.
  21. Well aside from that the HLF is a deeper more low-end biased cab, it’s also 4ohms and a fair bit bigger, though has inbuilt castors you help move it about. I used each amp with different amps & bands so difficult to be objective but I’d say the HE was more what I would recognise as the traditional Ampeg sound.
  22. I had an SVT410HE and it was a nice sounding cab, nice balanced sound, and used an SVT410HLF on tour last year, again nice cab. They have a reputation for being very low end biased but as I had a twangy overdrive sound it worked very well.
  23. Very good points Chris, I prefer the bigger heavier amps but have had to acknowledge that my body can’t deal with them anymore. So in that case, I got what I considered the best amp in an easily carried format. I keep looking at heavier - and I only mean about 13kgs - amps, but my 2.5kg amp is the right choice for my circumstances. And it’s not like I’m going to get younger or more able bodied so I just have to make sure I stay strong of mind and resist weightier temptation.
  24. I really wish I could get past myself in the thought that I’m not a serious bassist unless my Fenders are US made. As I’ve said the Squiers that I’ve had have been a joy to play and have sounded fine. It’s not even the thought of others judging me, it’s purely this devil on my shoulder telling me they have to be US made.
  25. All of my basses are pretty expensive, but I recall buying a Squier Precision that I couldn’t put down. Similarly my Squier VM77 Jazz, whilst its not as good as my US Jazz I really enjoy playing it.
