  1. I went through the swapping to hi-mass bridges a few years back, and although not massively different I felt that the mids were somehow slightly subdued and both top and bottom end made a tad sharper, so making the sound slightly more modern. And my overall thoughts were I preferred the sound with the BBOT bridges, so they went back in and I sold the hi-mass ones.
  2. I paired an ABM600 with a Barefaced Big Twin 2 and it worked very well, however I found I preferred the more baked in sound of the Ashdown ABM cabs to the relatively clean/flat Barefaced.
  3. Was going to say this one, heard it on the radio earlier today, beautiful solo.
  4. Herrick pickups, sound great and Martin is also on here.
  5. I often find myself with these thoughts Crawford, you’re not alone in this. I just rationalise it as playing bass is my hobby, and given that I neither drink nor smoke, well I may as well spend my spare cash on my hobby. When I drank I’d spend more in a year than what my whole instrument collection has cost me, so I don’t look at it as wasted money.
  6. Well I’m not in a gigging band at present but the question I really don’t miss from gigs is “do you reckon we’ll be home by 4 or 5am”.
  7. There`s a good few that I regret parting with, none that it really hurts but my Mex Strat that I had from 1995 til about 2015 - I sold it cos I wanted to play solely bass for my band and not get distracted by any other instruments, looking back I had it for 20 odd years, didn`t need the money so should have kept hold of it. I also regret moving on my Gibson Les Paul Studio, it was a great guitar but again, moved it on when I joined a band and wanted more basses - more than I needed for the band. Should have been disciplined but never been my strong point. And my Gibson Les Paul Bass, and my MIJ Fender 51 Precision Reissue, would be nice to have kept them.
  8. Yep, was a great venue, saw many great bands there, Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and Stranglers to name a few. Only got to play there once, it was a local Bandsearch competition. We knew we were rubbish so sent in someone else’s tape and got to the final. Which was very punk rock of us. They changed the rules of the competition after that.
  9. Good advice, been really tempted by that myself.
  10. I’d say the best Precisions under a grand are the US Standard 2012-16 range, however they have a chunker of a neck in them so not good for everyone.
  11. The ones on my TB sound very similar to the Fender Custom Shop 62s that are on my US Standard.

    NAD!!

From what I understand the earlier ones were heavier, mine certainly was a fair bit weightier than my ABM410. I bought it based on the weight shown on the website which was about the same as the ABM. Shame as it sounded so good.

The RM cabs are great, I had a 610 for a while but it was too heavy for me so had to move it on. But it sounded awesome.
  14. I’m not very good with technology but given how I think it’s going to factor big time in live music going forward, if my fave bands are doing a live streamed gig I’ll be watching.
  15. Rich just bought my Ashdown ABM600 from me. Good comms throughout, and we arranged a socially-distance meet up for the deal at the usual Basschat motorway service station setting. Had a good chat about amps/basses and music in general. Enjoy the amp Rich, I’m sad to see it go.
  16. I have the Tony Butler Sig Precision and it’s a very good quality instrument. It was the backup to my US Standard and I fully expected to have to swap the pickups out, however that turned out to not be the case. Aside from putting in better pots/capacitor (thanks Ki0gon) I didn’t need to do anything on it, it’s just a great instrument.
  17. It’s a good thought, Earbrass, I’ve spoken with my old band about events like this, get a good promoter involved and go from there. Get a venue on board that can safely accommodate a band, couple of camera people and sound/lighting engineers and get a live gig in your own home. I think people in the live music scenes are going to really need to rethink, much the same way as when giving music away on YouTube etc became par for the course. This is the next development, those that embrace it should see the rewards.
  18. And now having a buyer I`ve put it through its paces this afternoon as you do, and I`ve been reminded why I think this is such a good amp.
  19. Now that I’m no longer in a band I’m offloading mine. I have a buyer so plugged it all in today to give it a workout and was reminded just how good the ABM600 is. I’ll miss it, but hey, that’s life.
  20. I’ve got US and Player basses (Precisions). I’ve upgraded a few things on the Player, such as nut, pots/capacitor and added a 3-way string tree. I had expected to want to swap out the tuners and the pickups but I found both to be more than up to the job. For some reason I can’t get away from needing to own US made Fenders but the reality is that the Players more than fit my needs. Sure the US ones are better, but not as much as the difference in price tag would suggest - all imho of course.
  21. Dang they’re good. If I get to their age I might be that good too.....,
  22. I think that’s a very good point, sure there are aspects that we all like/prefer but I’m willing to bet we could all play a fairly decent gig on an unfamiliar bass.
  23. Exactly what I was going to say, the Player range is very good indeed.
