5 Tracks that prove John Entwistle is a genius
Lozz196 replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Lead Bass! -
It’s funny but I find that with live performances too, after 40mins my attention starts to wander, irrespective of how good the band are. Same with set times for whichever band I’ve been in, I always thought a 40min set was just about right.

I suppose from my collection the double album that has a good few let-downs is The Great Rock n Roll Swindle by The Sex Pistols. The tracks of them playing are good, but there’s too much other “filler” on it. I suppose it does actually live up to its name.

Def, really could have been a great follow up to Appetite. Agree, The Clash were a strange band, capable of both brilliant tracks and awful ones.

Some New Model Army covers (UK post punk band, pick style bass)
Lozz196 replied to JonnyBGood's topic in Share Your Music
Some good playing on some great bass lines there. For some reason I’ve never got familiar with NMAs material, but every time I hear some I like it - as a starting point would you suggest this album @JonnyBGood? -
Similar to me, I bought one to even out string to string volume on my Jazz bass and it worked a great last night.
-
Very swift, and look to be decent items as well.
-
For an encore I wouldn’t do anything that radically dropped the pace on which the set finished.
-
Hi Jon Terry Chapman of TJC Guitars did a refin on a bass for me in this colour. He no longer does refins but should be able to advise where to source the paint.
-
Oh don’t say that, I’m finally at peace with myself for selling mine, I don’t need any encouragement to go and buy another (no matter how much I want to, of course).
-
My ideal tone is Precision/Ampeg, however I’ve only been in one band where it seemed to work. As above I adapt depending on the band as to me it’s far easier to alter the bass tone to a guitarists than get a guitarist to alter theirs.

Aguilar DB680+QSC PLX31000, to be sold, then new amp found.
Lozz196 replied to Stonehenge's topic in Amps and Cabs
Agree, if you like the Aguilar sound the Tonehammer is a good little amp. -
One additional benefit of Ashdown aside from the sound/volume is that in the unlikely case of something going wrong with one is that being UK based, and offering excellent customer service is that it’s pretty easy to get it dealt with both quickly and reasonably.
-
I had similar with some Hipshot tuners I bought, the bushes were slightly too small so I emailed them and asked if they had something more suitable available for retail. They just said send us your address and we’ll post them out. It is amazing how some companies/retailers seem to overlook these kinds of gestures, whereas for others they build and retain large customer bases with them.

It was Gareth, I couldn’t believe the BIN price was so reasonable. Ok it’s not pristine condition but have seen similar ones fairly higher priced.
-
Glad to hear it Stew, they really are amazingly good little amps aren’t they?
-
I’m just an imitation of my former self, Mick 🤣
-
Firm my understanding it is Stew, tho requires a degree of practicality to do it. I’m sure Dave at Ashdown would offer best advice on this.
-
Well the Ashdown is louder, but as Chris says the SVT3 isn’t quiet, it just takes a while to get used to how to obtain the max performance from it.
-
I’ve had two SVT-3PROs, good amps but if expectations are of the traditional SVT sound it doesn’t quite meet it. Plus the size of it, and the fact it really needs to be in a rack case made it pretty cumbersome & awkward to cart about. Being a major Ashdown Fanboi I’d stick with the original thoughts of the ABM600, I found it to be more versatile than the Ampeg, lighter/easier to carry, and wayyyyy louder.

So after reading the thread about Cliff Williams of AC/DC getting a signature Stingray it reignited the want for one. I love Stingrays but have ever managed to “tame” the sound, but then I’ve only ever had the 3eq versions. I have however read that the 2eq is beefier sounding so thought, I’ll give one a try if a black/black/maple one comes along. And it did at the weekend on EBay. Sealed the deal, delivered today. Like an excited child I got home and to work on a clean/set-up and in honour of Cliff, a set of D’Addario Chromes. It’s a 1987 model with the truss rod adjuster in the headstock, and the silver battery cover. It has some nice authentic road wear on it, nothing hideous, just the signs of a 30+ year old gigged instrument. But all that doesn’t mean a thing if you don’t enjoy playing it. Well I settled down in front of YouTube to some of my fave covers and an hour and a half passed in an instant, yes, the ‘Ray passed the test, I love playing it, and yes, the 2eq is beefier sounding. Oh, the beauty in question, well it’s as below.

Dave just bought a Jazz loom from me. Good comms & swift payment, and advised of receipt, something I always appreciate.

Precision/Ampeg wonderfulness.
