  1. On the time I had to use someone else’s bass due to mine failing (electrical problem) it was doubly embarrassing as I was meant to be lending a band mine for the evening, as they’d flown in from Germany. Luckily the bassist of the headline band was great about it all and lent us his backup, a Squier Matt Freeman Precision which more than fitted the bill.
  2. Same here, I also think my hatred stemmed from the fact that my then girlfriend was a Durannie. Being into punk listening to Duran over and over again did my head in, whereas nowadays I’d quite like that.
  3. Seems strange to me, leaving a band but expecting equal rights and input on what’s put on the website.
  4. Ordinary World is an awesome track, and far better for coming from their non-teenie phase imo.
  5. I admit I never take a backup amp. At the Rebellion Festival last year I plugged into the provided SVT stack, tuned up, all good. Just as we were about to start, nothing, amp had gone, so the crew switched to the backup. As had been said, even the expensive gear can go.
  6. Not much in it I`d say, a new set of either makes my fingertips aware of what`s happened til they`ve aged a bit.
  7. Yep, switched to these from Rotosound, similar sound, at least twice if not three times the life span. And at lower cost.

Nice one, glad it all worked out Stew

That`s about it. Rather embarrassingly I hadn`t noticed it as my sound is trebly/twangy/driven, it was only when I went to sell it - and delivered it personally - that the prospective buyer tried it out and noticed it. His sound had some good lows so it made the same sound you describe. Ashdown put a new tweeter in it for me and all was then good.
  10. Might just get one myself, love the 57 look

If it’s just on the lows it could be the tweeter. I had this on the RM112 that I had, took it to Ashdown and they sorted it. Can’t remember what the exact fault was but def worth giving them a call.
  12. That’s the reason I switched to maple fretboards.
  13. I’ve only needed one once - and typically had been too lazy to take one on that gig. Lesson learned, it’s only one extra cheapie item in a gig-bag, take it.
  14. I think I’d be checking out Spectors, see if they have something that fits the requirements.
  15. Def, Sid Vicious found that out at a gig by hitting someone over the head with his. Probably the best use he ever got from it...

Imo the RM range is a real unsung hero, those of us that have them realise just how good they are but they really slip by the wayside to a lot of people.
  17. I’ve only tried 5-string basses a couple of times and I was surprised at how easy I found it. But then I just played all my regular lines in the same places so essentially as a 4-string. Nothing against 5s, I have considered getting one as am sure it would help on some of the music in my new project.
  18. From what I’ve read Sheryl Crow apparently is quite handy on the bass. Doh - just saw Jus Lukins post.

Congrats, that’s why I went the Ashdown RM as well, Stew. As you say it’s near enough in sound to the ABM, but in a set up that can be carried about by those not in their prime shall we say. My RM500 plus two of the 210s (with upgraded Eminence speakers) is going to stay with me now, don’t need anything else for what I’ll be doing moving forwards.
  20. C’mon, how many takes was it for the bass solo then?
  21. Yes, it was only when I read his book I realised he played bass - and given the other musicians in the bands he was in he’d have had to have been good, they wouldn’t have suffered incompetence well.
  22. Congrats, I had one of those and they are awesome, paired it with a Marshall VBC412, a heavy but very satisfying rig to cart about.
