  1. As mentioned Tony Iommi managed to adapt after an accident, additionally Django Reinhardt I believe had missing fingers, didn’t stop either of them. If you can learn left handed it would be the practical option, but you don’t have to discount right handed.
  2. I replaced the stock pickups in my Squier VM77 Jazz with Fender 74s and have been very pleased with them. They’re not as thin/toppy as some Jazz pickups can be, and quite beefy. Not sure about break up as only home use so never pushed them.
  3. I found that little gem out a few years back by accident on a soundcheck. Got what I thought was a great sound on stage, just enough highs to not be mushy, big powerful sound. Went out front to check levels and all it was was sludge-city. So upped hi mids and treble to where they started to irritate me, went back out front and the sound was fat & punchy.
  4. Re the possible damage issue, it’s def something to consider as accidents etc do happen. At one gig I had a chap in the audience literally thrown at me, I just had to stand firm and hope I wouldn’t get flattened. I didn’t, but on next changing my strings I noticed a big dent in the fretboard on the E string at the 12th fret (so no real bother as punk don’t use frets that high up). Said bloke had hit the mic-stand and both had gone into me causing the damage. That’s why I didn’t gig my fave bass, as things like that do happen (at the same gig a different bloke got thrown into the drum kit, knocking over the drummers new cymbals that had cost him a grand). Def worth taking on board.
  5. Maybe with streaming bands with merch will get more online sales? I know that when the lockdown started my old band introduced a new style of shirt and sold them all pretty quickly. If a band already has a fan base then even if they don’t get any direct payment merch sales will be welcome, plus people then still get to see bands that they like.
  6. Hanoi Rocks - All those Wasted Years, quality live album that captures many of their greatest songs
  7. Not necessarily, having played originals for the last 6 years most of the gigs we were doing had good audiences. Mainly down to good promoters putting on the right bands and actually promoting I think, but certainly on the punk/Oi scene people would travel fair distances to see bands. I recall a gig in Wigan last year, the first 5 people I spoke to had come from Germany for the gig.
  8. I suppose I’m quite lucky, I have Coda in Stevenage and PMT in Northampton within quite easy reach, I used to visit Coda especially quite a lot. It’s a shame re physical music shops closing down though, sometimes trying a few of the same instruments yields surprising results. On a visit to Coda I tried out 3 of the same Les Paul Studio, one whispered, one threw up, the other sang. Without the comparison I might have bought the upchucker if only ordering online, without knowing the difference.

Yep, and due to height probably easier to hear properly as well.
  10. I’ve used the same cleaning methods for both, on every string change a wipe down with lemon oil. Keeps the rosewood nice and dark/shiny/not dried out looking, and seems to darken the maple giving a more vintage look. It also removes any gunk build up easily.

    Amazing weight, 25kg for a 2x15.
  12. I’m not in a gigging band, and have no intention of being in one, so it doesn’t affect either my playing fun or income. But I like going to gigs. Maybe I shouldn’t have said worried, or maybe I should, after all it is possible to be worried about more than one thing at a time, and they don’t all have to be of the same severity.
  13. I think you’ve hit it, Hooky, when I got my Tony Butler V4 as a backup I thought I might have to change stuff like pickups/tuners/bridge to get it up to scratch, whereas once I played it with the band I realised nowt was needed. And for a sub £300 bass to be that near in playability and sound to my US Standard Precision with Custom Shop pickups is staggering.
  14. Nice one Clarky, I remember the sounds you got with Kismetik, it’s only sensible to be able to recreate those minty tones again.
  15. A Fender Telecaster, the proper single coil jobbie.
  16. I know it’s been speculated on on other threads but it certainly is worrying. I reckon that pubs/restaurants etc will be the last to re-emerge, and then there’s the social distances that have to be put in place. From there it will be finding a way to work gigs/live music back in. It won’t go away, the world over people love live music, but the finger on the pause button is firmly in place at present.
  17. The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks, all that’s needed.
  18. Nice, the Player range is def the best from Mex so far, really good quality and great - pardon the pun - Players.
  19. GAS, increasing my knowledge of gear/what can reasonably be expected from it, and a good few people that are either friends who I’ve actually met, or who are friends I’m yet to meet.
  20. Sort of, tho it’s more OCD than anything,, if possible I’d have all my gear the same colour (pref black black maple).
  21. Hmmm, I was gonna say Precision, possibly a 70s ash-bodied one hence the more scoopy element to the sound. Whichever it’s great playing, def my fave DS song.
