  1. The black guard will change the look nicely, sunburst/black/maple very under-rated imo. Re pickups, well I’ve never been a fan of SD QPs so I’d change those if that’s what they turn out to be. My personal faves are Fender Custom Shop 62s but I’m a bit intrigued by the EMG Geezers, apparently voiced to a similar period, but not so low-mid focused.
  2. Good sounds there, and that effortless bass sound just fits really well.
  3. Mick, you won’t even convince yourself with that l, let alone anyone else 🤣
  4. In the times when my old covers band put all instruments into our PA we didn’t even turn them up as loud as the backline/un-amplified drums. It just gave a greater spread and depth of sound to the band to have a presence in the PA. Ultimately we just got fed up of both carrying more gear in order to do this, and sounding too polished - we were a punk covers band, couldn’t sound too good!
  5. Looks like they shouldn’t have taken them in or moved them on, but doesn’t look like they were trying to misrepresent them - pretty much anyone buying guitars would know you don’t get a Gibson SG for under £300. Only possible problem is if the buyer then moves it in as a genuine item, at that point are there liability issues?
  6. A mate of mine had one of those, albeit in a different colour scheme, was a fantastic bass, killer sounds, congrats.
  7. Pinpoint the sound you like most/that you`re after making, then research from there. If you`re after a specific sound you`ll get much more enjoyment from an instrument that can recreate it. Which is exactly what I didn`t do, for years. I was always chasing a specific sound, then finally bought the bass that could do it, made things a lot better.
  8. We had two songs which we would play if someone in the crowd was overly boisterous, Riot snd Aggro. They were usually quite happy with the dedications.
  9. I remember that comment well, and use it myself when the opportunity arises.
  10. Rotten news, whilst I was never a major fan I did really like a lot of their material, The Stranglers were one of “my” teenage bands.
  11. Funny that, I did pretty much the same, and came to the same conclusion too.
  12. In theory virtually all of the gigs I did with my last band could have been done without an amp, as they were almost all going FOH, and all were done with my eq/sound coming from a preamp pedal. That said I’m not a fan of too much in the monitors, other than vocals, I prefer the sound of the instruments behind me, so ampage/cabbage for me. As such both features mentioned would have been useful in the times I used my own amp head.
  13. I don’t hear anything that would cause me concern, if anything I think bass one sounds much better and more Precision like.
  14. Yep, Toneriders are good pickups, sound very similar to the Fender Custom Shop 62s.
  15. That’s a great looking bass Nick, and nice too see you do a deal just to help your mate out, without any real benefit to yourself.......
  16. Interestingly the only aggro I’ve really seen at pub gigs is covers bands gigs, on the originals circuit it’s been pretty much bother free (aside from the dancing, which on the punk/Oi circuit looks like a fight anyway).
  17. Yeah, I think it’s Ric on first & maybe second albums, Precision mostly thereafter. Difficult to know as his tone wasn’t majorly different throughout his work with The Jam. But whichever it was, it was great.
  18. That’s the one, my local in the 80s/90s, now sadly (well up until lockdown) frequented by customers who keep various South American countries economies afloat, and then think that means they’re hard.
  19. That’s it for me, it’s down to the specifics of the venue in question (White Hart, Gary?).
  20. Congrats, have to say I agree, best MIM Fenders I’ve ever played. The post 2012s were very good but these Players have just improved on those in all the right points, better feeling necks, better sounding pickups.
  21. ITEM SOLD One very nice Squier Telecaster Deluxe, 2 humbucker model - layout same as a Les Paul with vol/tone for each pickup and three way pickup selector. Comes with a Gator hard case. Price includes insured shipping in the UK. Given current worldwide issues no overseas buyers. No trades thanks.
  22. 3 x black - Fender MIM Telecaster Deluxe, Fender US Professional Jazz, Fender US Standard Precision 2 x white - Fender US Standard Precision, Fender US Deluxe P/J Precision
  23. The only makes I have any experience of from those are Squier and Vintage. I have a VM77 Jazz and it’s a very good bass, and as per Hookys comments Vintage are def worth a look, I have one of their Precisions and it really is a great quality instrument. Neither are good for the money, they’re just good in their own rights, imo both could be double their actual prices and they’d still be worth it.
  24. I used to like listening to both Liza Tarbuck and Craig Charles on the long journeys home from gigs, when every now & then they’d be covering for others. I also liked Ana Matronic and Huey Morgan’s shows. Something quite relaxing and reassuring about Radio 2 after a long nights full on punk/Oi action.
  25. Interesting to see the way his bass is strung. Suppose it makes sense if starting out on a borrowed right handed (assuming that’s what he did of course).
