  1. That’s it for me as well, Stew, close enough in a format suitable for my ageing body.
  2. I didn’t find it funny. Nothing to do with gender offending or anything (is it possible that I’m offended that I didn’t find it offensive) I just didn’t think there was any humour in it.
  3. A P/J is good imo - sometimes a straight Precision sound can be a bit bulky, especially if there are 2 humbucking gtrs or guitar/keys in the band. Adding in the J pickup tightens up the sound nicely. I’ve never found on any P/J that I’ve had that the P sounded compromised, it certainly doesn’t on my US Deluxe Precision.
  4. Probably designed that way on purpose, so that in the days of excess in the 80s bassists could have lines of coke on-stage on the back ledge, ready & waiting.
  5. That makes perfect sense, adapt playing to what’s available and make life easier.
  6. I’ve seen some rotten covers bands murder this song, and this is probably one of the worst attempts. Aaaarrrgggh!!
  7. The Vintage V4s are very good basses, amazing quality and playability, good Wilkinson hardware on them too.
  8. I’ve missed gigging but given that I’d already left my band it was my decision to stop so not in the same position as many of you out there.
  9. I’d say if you’ve not bonded with it then move it on and look for a bass you truly love playing. I’ve had many basses that for whatever reason I just didn’t gel with, nothing wrong with any of them, so sold them, hopefully to people who really loved them.
  10. I get that, and thinking about it that’s probably why I feel like I can only own US Fenders as my gigging instruments. Although I’ve been very impressed with the quality and playability of MIM Fenders of recent years there’s always a voice in my head saying “but it’s not a US Fender, you need a real one”. Daft but hey, that’s how it is for me.
  11. I think it’s down to personal taste/choice but I’m in agreement, out of my fave players none used more than 4 strings.
  12. That is a great looking Jazz, congrats
  13. They are very good indeed, a real surprise at how good they are in fact. I had mine as a backup to my US Precision and fully expected to have to swap pickups etc, but no, sounded great and played great too. Real good quality instruments.
  14. Yep, I’ve not tried one myself but I’ve not read a bad word about them, over a good many threads.
  15. The only real difference I’ve found is the V4 has a chunkier neck, or at least the Tony Butler V4 has.
  16. I wouldn’t know if a song wasn’t in straight 4/4, other than it would just sound a bit “off”. And if it did I’d have no idea what actual time sig it was in.
  17. I truly wish I could get past having to have US Fenders. The post 2008 MIMs, especially the Player range are excellent. But I can’t get past it it seems, given I’ve bought a US Jazz today.
  18. I remember doing a cab shootout at the SE Bass Bash some years back and being very impressed with the Super Midget. I found the original Midget a bit shouty but the G3 SM sounded much fuller and better balanced. An amazing amount of quality sound came out of that little cab.
  19. Agree, I pretty much always called them scratchplates but have noticed the move to pickguard.
  20. I know, I’ve found the post 2008 Mex Fenders that I’ve had, especially the Player to be more than enough for my needs, but for some reason I still have to have US Fenders. Totally irrational, especially for gigging, makes much more sense to gig with a £500 instrument than a much more costly one.
  21. Whatever is done will never be 100% right, but it’s a start, great that this is now being looked into.
  22. Yep, Vintage V4s are great, the Tony Butler Signature is an excellent bass.
  23. Agree, I never needed anything more than a Super12 with a 500 watt amp head.
  24. I used both Markbass and Aguilar for a while, then had a provided rig at a gig which was Ashdown. Decided to swap immediately, for the punk that I was doing the Ashdown just had so much more punch & depth to it. Worth checking out, their RM range is lightweight to carry but not in the sound department.
