  1. Chapter IV by Booze & Glory. I’d been so looking forward to it’s release, and when it came out I was seriously underwhelmed. Aside from the 2 songs that I already knew it just didn’t seem like the old B&G. But I persisted and now it’s definitely one of my fave albums ever. The songwriting, playing, production, all of it just add up to an amazing album, much less Oi than their previous material but no less powerful, plus lyrically dealing with subjects not approached before.
  2. Good cabs, I’d put them sound wise midway between the Ampeg HLE & HLF. Not as heavy as the Ampeg, though they are front heavy rather than even weight. They’re also a 4ohm cab so that’s something to consider.
  3. I thought his piano playing was great. I wasn’t that keen on the lyrical content at first (not through dislike or prejudice, from not having had the experiences mentioned) then halfway through realised what he is doing is exactly what the music I love, punk did - pointing out inequalities and injustices, at that point I thought well done. But I still thought the piano playing was the best part of his performance.
  4. Round wounds, more gain and upper mids than would be expected would be a good starter I’d reckon.
  5. Looks wise Gibson Thunderbird or Rickenbacker 4001/3.
  6. Not had one of the 810s but had most of the rest of the range and thought they were all very good. Bassier, treblier but less middy than any equivalent Ampeg, probably just as heavy. A cab that can hold its own on festival stages for sure.
  7. I`ve found that - on the `Ray itself - cutting treble pretty much fully and cutting the mids by about 50%, but then - on my amp or eq pedal - adding in hi-mids at around 2.5kHz and treble to suit I can get fairly near. It`s a case of reducing that very hi-end, but then adding in highs in the right sort of area which does it.
  8. Now Sold Now £40. Pretty much the industry standard, one BOSS TU2 up for grabs. Comes in proper box for item. In decent nick, fully working, has had Velcro on before but now that has been removed, left a couple of bits of residue on the bottom but nothing to be concerned about. Price includes insured/tracked delivery within the UK.
  9. Item now sold One Tech21 Para Driver v2 in good condition up for grabs. Comes in the lovely tin box. Although not a bass specific pedal this item really works with the bass - think Tech21 Sansamp Bass Driver with sweepable adjustable mids (from 160Hz to 3kHz) and you have this pedal. I`m only selling as I have 2 and now I`m not in a gigging band don`t need a backup. Price includes insured/tracked delivery within the UK.
  10. The Sex Pistols - simply the most exciting band I’d ever heard when they emerged to the masses in 1977, and still are today. Stiff Little Fingers - first punk band I actually saw, back in 1980 probably. I listened to these more throughout the 90s than any other band and loved the new material they were releasing. Hanoi Rocks - found out about them just as they split up. A real influence on both music and image for me, and their live album All Those Wasted Years was never far from my car stereo in 1986, def the sound of the best summer of my life.
  11. I didn’t realise that a bass could low, as well as going low.
  12. In our old punk covers band our theory was if it had been in the Top 30, been on Top of The Pops, or was considered a classic. Loads of great songs on albums that loads of people don’t know so we never bothered with any of those.
  13. Double gig bags are a young/strong bassists game - if you`re neither both or either don`t bother. I thought it would be a great idea and found it really wasn`t. Great idea on paper, foiled by middle-aged knackeredbackbassist syndrome.
  14. Nearly as many as on a flight deck on a jumbo jet
  15. I’m not a fan and haven’t got any of his material but I have found that when he releases new songs and they’re played on the radio I quite like them.
  16. A lot of forward thinkers on the board....
  17. Now Sold One Hipshot BT12 Extender up for grabs. Want to play in drop-D, then this is for you, no more detuning/retuning/string-slippage, a flick of a lever and it’s D or E. Fits recent US Fenders - 2012 onwards, possibly the 2008s onwards but I haven’t got one of those to confirm that. £60 gets it to your UK address.
  18. I’ve seen a good few bands do this, guys who’ve been pros for 20/30 years and it seems to work ok for them. Maybe it’s not scientifically and technically perfect but if it achieves the aim then great. And there’s a thread now in General Discussion where the bassist from Fairport Convention was doing exactly this.
  19. Pretty Vacant - The Sex Pistols If The Kids Are United - Sham 69 Rhythm Stick - Ian Dury & Blockheads Was difficult to only pick three, and all of these were out just before I was in my teens but they stayed with me throughout my school years til I left.
  20. Glad it worked out for you 😁
  21. Looking forward to this, hopefully be interesting
  22. I think it matters more in bands that are mainstream famous and doing it as a career, less so in others.
  23. Yep, my main gigging bass for my last band has a good few knocks, I bought it with some of them and have contributed to the rest. I bought a bass with knocks already there so I wouldn’t be precious about it, being on the punk/Oi scene it was fairly inevitable that bits of gear would take a knock or two.
