  1. And very good they are too.
  2. I’ve just read that Rebellion 2020 has been cancelled, but they’ve said to all who have tickets to keep them as they’ll be valid for next year. Shame but as well as social distancing not likely to work in the venue (Winter Gardens, Blackpool) they’ve had bands have to pull out due to travelling from overseas, and punters in the same position. Not to mention that it’s an extra 10,000 people visiting Blackpool and will the towns hotels/B&Bs be open. Shame but makes sense.
  3. I think they were Mick, if it wasn’t this manufacturer it was someone else doing very similar.
  4. I had similar at The London Bass Guitar Show, tho being in my punky 50s it didn’t bother me. Plugged in a bass and played Warhead by The UK Subs whilst the slap mingled into the background. Some of the slap players looked at me as if I was some form of Neanderthal, and disrespectful to their slap time. Yep to both 🤣
  5. I remember when they came out, was quite startling, Tortelvis on vox lol.
  6. There’s something about the original Precision basses, I really like them but always move them on due to knowing I won’t use them in a band setting (even though I have in the past). I really should get past that as now not being in a gigging band my choice of instruments is adapting somewhat. But back on topic, yes the sound is somewhat different to a regular Precision, though not much, and seems to have a magic quality to it that’s difficult to put into words.
  7. One of our songs, This Ain’t No Love Song was played at a distant mates service. We played a farewell gig for him 4 weeks before cancer took him. Still saddens me when I think of it.
  8. Nothing funny or poignant in my choice, just my favourite ever song, Seasons in The Sun by Terry Jacks.
  9. If it fits the song, great, it works exceptionally well - imo - in Ashes to Ashes by Bowie, and This is Not a Love Song by PIL, two artists where slap-bass may not be expected.
  10. Love it, BSR are great, that’s my fave song of theirs and you’ve done it proud, WalMan, thumbs up from me!
  11. I`ve tried them on both a Precision and on a Stingray, wasn1t completely happy with either, though imo worked better on the `Ray, taming it a bit. They just seem to have a real spike somewhere that`s difficult to reduce.
  12. I love those bass coffins - if I were still in a touring band I’d have considered getting one, make so much sense, less bulky cases, both/all instruments on stage and ready to go, plus secure in back of vans etc.
  13. Sounds like it, or a lot of treble/mids on the amp. Great sound however he got it tho, the classic Precision/Ampeg sound (even if now people tell me he used a Status and a Trace Elliot in that gig).
  14. As mentioned Tony Iommi managed to adapt after an accident, additionally Django Reinhardt I believe had missing fingers, didn’t stop either of them. If you can learn left handed it would be the practical option, but you don’t have to discount right handed.
  15. I replaced the stock pickups in my Squier VM77 Jazz with Fender 74s and have been very pleased with them. They’re not as thin/toppy as some Jazz pickups can be, and quite beefy. Not sure about break up as only home use so never pushed them.
  16. I found that little gem out a few years back by accident on a soundcheck. Got what I thought was a great sound on stage, just enough highs to not be mushy, big powerful sound. Went out front to check levels and all it was was sludge-city. So upped hi mids and treble to where they started to irritate me, went back out front and the sound was fat & punchy.
  17. Re the possible damage issue, it’s def something to consider as accidents etc do happen. At one gig I had a chap in the audience literally thrown at me, I just had to stand firm and hope I wouldn’t get flattened. I didn’t, but on next changing my strings I noticed a big dent in the fretboard on the E string at the 12th fret (so no real bother as punk don’t use frets that high up). Said bloke had hit the mic-stand and both had gone into me causing the damage. That’s why I didn’t gig my fave bass, as things like that do happen (at the same gig a different bloke got thrown into the drum kit, knocking over the drummers new cymbals that had cost him a grand). Def worth taking on board.
  18. Maybe with streaming bands with merch will get more online sales? I know that when the lockdown started my old band introduced a new style of shirt and sold them all pretty quickly. If a band already has a fan base then even if they don’t get any direct payment merch sales will be welcome, plus people then still get to see bands that they like.
  19. Hanoi Rocks - All those Wasted Years, quality live album that captures many of their greatest songs
  20. Not necessarily, having played originals for the last 6 years most of the gigs we were doing had good audiences. Mainly down to good promoters putting on the right bands and actually promoting I think, but certainly on the punk/Oi scene people would travel fair distances to see bands. I recall a gig in Wigan last year, the first 5 people I spoke to had come from Germany for the gig.
  21. I suppose I’m quite lucky, I have Coda in Stevenage and PMT in Northampton within quite easy reach, I used to visit Coda especially quite a lot. It’s a shame re physical music shops closing down though, sometimes trying a few of the same instruments yields surprising results. On a visit to Coda I tried out 3 of the same Les Paul Studio, one whispered, one threw up, the other sang. Without the comparison I might have bought the upchucker if only ordering online, without knowing the difference.

    Size

Yep, and due to height probably easier to hear properly as well.
  23. I’ve used the same cleaning methods for both, on every string change a wipe down with lemon oil. Keeps the rosewood nice and dark/shiny/not dried out looking, and seems to darken the maple giving a more vintage look. It also removes any gunk build up easily.
