  1. Bass stated as liked but not played much. Or a work-horse that will be played into the ground (and quoted as The Fender bass was amazing; I’d forgotten just how good they are). Only says one thing to me, buy the Jazz that is wanted/will be used regularly.
  2. Sad but without a bit of knowledge, or a Basschat membership, someone could get badly stung here.
  3. Thanks mate, I wouldn`t say happy, but a decision I had to make for sake of my physical & mental health - there is a post up in general with full details etc. I`m sure they`ll be great with Mick, he`s been around and knows the scene so am hoping they keep going onto bigger & better things.
  4. As Vyvyan from The Young Ones jacket said, Very Metal!
  5. Assuming it was the Northampton one, they`re pretty darn good in there aren`t they, no pressure on sales, happy for any item to be tried out for however long.
  6. I had to leave Sean, the toll of gigging far & wide finally caught up with me, just can`t hack it any more - and with the band now signed to a German label the work would be even more far-flung and more often. The band has a replacement, Mick Maverick, formerly of The Gonads, his first gig is this Sunday in The 100 Club.
  7. 39 for us, but that included 2 separate visits to Scotland, 4 separate visits to Germany, plus gigs in Holland, Ireland, and all over the UK - mostly oop North as they seem to be quite fond of us.
  8. Have left my band, no gigging in the foreseeable future so offloading everything that I don`t need - who knows, I might even be able to get into my spare room after it`s all gone 😮
  9. As some may know, I rather like Precisions. And back as far as I can remember I always went for rosewood fretboards. Until my current band, when we started playing on stages with big lighting and I realised I was finding it difficult to see where I was on said rosewood, so I swapped to maple.
  10. I also quite like them, and similarly am not sure how it changed music history. Was another good - but not exceptional imo - album from that period, maybe the thought was that the punks had "grown up" and learnt to write "proper" songs maybe?
  11. If this is the name chosen please let me know, as I’m sure the guitarist in my mates band, Dirt Box Disco would happily use one.
  12. Sadly for me I’ve just had to quit my band as gigging was taking its toll. We were doing 40 odd gigs a year which were Europe wide, though mainly in the UK. A typical gig would be leave at midday and get home at 3am the next day, for a 45min set. Although I love it I’ve got to the point where i just can’t do that every weekend, hold down a full time job, and look after myself & my flat. Bah!
  13. If looking at a forward thinking solution Ashdown RM 500 EVO II is a good one to consider. These amps can be fixed quite easily from my understanding, plus being based in the UK makes arranging any necessary works much easier. Sound and volume wise they also deliver big time.
  14. I watched some of it, channel hopping really. Didn’t see much that held my attention, the bit of The Stereophonics that I caught i didn’t know the song but thought they played well, and had great guitar sounds. Their drummer certainly looked like he was having a good time.
  15. Great bass line on that song - should have realised it was Pino, he certainly made a lot of those 80s songs a whole lot better with his playing.
  16. Agreed, it should be fine. On Monday I used an Ampeg V4B (100 watt valve amp) into an Ashdown 600 watt 410, plenty of volume on a pretty big stage, with gain on 3, master volume on 5.
  17. Same for me, I think it’s the music we play, just seems wrong playing with light touch.
  18. Used one of these last night, great amp, really liked it and it’s true, valve watts are louder - big stage, no need to push it at all, bags of power.
  19. Thanks for all the replies and support peoples, it’s really appreciated. To update I did my last gig as a substantive member of the band last night, not too many details as it’s in the gig last night topic for anyone interested, but was a gig I’d really wanted to do, in Hamburg with friends of ours. I’m sad it’s over but I’ve had 6 wonderful years in the band, I’m looking back at the whole period with a smile 😃
  20. Played my last gig as a substantive member of my band last night, at Knust in Hamburg. We’d been invited to do the gig by friends of ours, Razors who are a great bunch. Set off at 5:30am, got to our hotel at 3pm for a brief rest before getting to venue for 5pm. Quick soundcheck - awesome sound for all 3 bands both on stage and out front, then off for a quick meal before the fun started. First band on at 8:30, Sixteen Again, a Buzzcocks tribute - they really got the crowd going, then we were on at 9:30. And it was amazing, crowd singing along with the songs, the reception after each song was jaw-dropping. Then Razors on for the end of the night, and as always delivered, they’re so good - and should be seeing they’ve been together since 1978! Back to hotel for 2am, set off at 11am to airport, just got home at 5pm, rather tired. I’m so glad I managed to get to do this gig, we were asked over a year ago to do it and when I said I was having to leave it was the one gig we had that I still really wanted to do, fitting then that it was my last, I went out on a high!
  21. I like a lot of clank/rattle in my sound, so I have a fairly high action as I only want said clank/rattle to be the product of hard-hitting.
  22. My checking routine is that my basses are working and making sure the batteries in my pedal/tuner work.
  23. Sounds more P than J to me. Great playing and another case of a recorded pro bass line being much treblier/toppier than would be expect, given how it sounds in the mix.
  24. Whilst not a big fan will like to see The Stereophonics, quite like their new single.
