I remember that comment well, and use it myself when the opportunity arises.

Rotten news, whilst I was never a major fan I did really like a lot of their material, The Stranglers were one of “my” teenage bands.
-
Funny that, I did pretty much the same, and came to the same conclusion too.

In theory virtually all of the gigs I did with my last band could have been done without an amp, as they were almost all going FOH, and all were done with my eq/sound coming from a preamp pedal. That said I’m not a fan of too much in the monitors, other than vocals, I prefer the sound of the instruments behind me, so ampage/cabbage for me. As such both features mentioned would have been useful in the times I used my own amp head.

I don’t hear anything that would cause me concern, if anything I think bass one sounds much better and more Precision like.

Yep, Toneriders are good pickups, sound very similar to the Fender Custom Shop 62s.

NBD: Fender American Original 60's Jazz Bass
Lozz196 replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
That’s a great looking bass Nick, and nice too see you do a deal just to help your mate out, without any real benefit to yourself....... -
Interestingly the only aggro I’ve really seen at pub gigs is covers bands gigs, on the originals circuit it’s been pretty much bother free (aside from the dancing, which on the punk/Oi circuit looks like a fight anyway).
-
Yeah, I think it’s Ric on first & maybe second albums, Precision mostly thereafter. Difficult to know as his tone wasn’t majorly different throughout his work with The Jam. But whichever it was, it was great.

That’s the one, my local in the 80s/90s, now sadly (well up until lockdown) frequented by customers who keep various South American countries economies afloat, and then think that means they’re hard.

That’s it for me, it’s down to the specifics of the venue in question (White Hart, Gary?).

Back in the game with a Fender Player Precision in Tidepool Blue
Lozz196 replied to Bassybert's topic in Bass Guitars
Congrats, have to say I agree, best MIM Fenders I’ve ever played. The post 2012s were very good but these Players have just improved on those in all the right points, better feeling necks, better sounding pickups. -
3 x black - Fender MIM Telecaster Deluxe, Fender US Professional Jazz, Fender US Standard Precision 2 x white - Fender US Standard Precision, Fender US Deluxe P/J Precision

The only makes I have any experience of from those are Squier and Vintage. I have a VM77 Jazz and it’s a very good bass, and as per Hookys comments Vintage are def worth a look, I have one of their Precisions and it really is a great quality instrument. Neither are good for the money, they’re just good in their own rights, imo both could be double their actual prices and they’d still be worth it.

I used to like listening to both Liza Tarbuck and Craig Charles on the long journeys home from gigs, when every now & then they’d be covering for others. I also liked Ana Matronic and Huey Morgan’s shows. Something quite relaxing and reassuring about Radio 2 after a long nights full on punk/Oi action.

Lee Pomeroy on Rick Wakeman's new record...
Lozz196 replied to wateroftyne's topic in General Discussion
Interesting to see the way his bass is strung. Suppose it makes sense if starting out on a borrowed right handed (assuming that’s what he did of course). -
Most over-rated/disappointing bands or under-rated bands/artists.
Lozz196 replied to lemonstar's topic in General Discussion
I’d say Hanoi Rocks were very under-rated. -
Good prices indeed, when I got mine (the first time round) I paid those prices for them 2nd hand.

Yeah essentially it was our producer who showed me that, get 100% of the sound you want from your bass & amp, then, with all controls on the BDDI at midday aside from blend, switch it on, then adjust the blend to suit. I’d tried over the years to get the sound solely from the pedal itself, with amp set flat and couldn’t get there, using it this way worked a treat.

Who would you have been seeing next before lockdown?
Lozz196 replied to ubit's topic in General Discussion
Same for me, was really looking forward to it, I hope the proposed September date will go ahead but of course that’s a bit far off at moment to speculate. -
Regrettably the CWU Reps, the union that represents Royal Mail do get paid when there’s a strike. The rep stands next to his comrades on the picket line knowing that said comrades have lost a days pay but said rep gets their days lost pay made up by the union. Or at least that’s how it works for the CWU in my workplace, and how it did work when we were owned by Royal Mail Group.

I’ve always found TE cabs to have a sort of spike/accented upper mids. Add that to the eq curve of that TE amp and there’s a lot boosted in areas that Markbass eq can’t do, combined with the top-end roll-off on their cabs.

They’re nice cabs, the RM series, congrats.
