  1. Agree. I was quite amazed when I saw said seasoned pros I mentioned using older cheaper gear, but then looking at the gear you could see that they’ve (or previous owners) have used it for years. So obviously reliable. And then when hearing them, well said Mex Fenders/Squiers/Epiphones sounded great, more than up to the job. It did make me question my need to only have/play US Fenders (and still does, it’s just something I can’t seem to get past).
  2. Yes, I read somewhere that for years in the early 70s he wanted a Fender Precision but that as the basses he already had were sufficient for his needs he resisted the urge, stating he’d been brought up to look by after whatever money he had.
  3. You were 27 in 1349 - are you Dr Who?
  4. I remember seeing a band called Scam69 do No More Heroes by The Stranglers where the guitarist played the keyboard line and being pretty amazed by that. Later on they did Dreaming by Blondie and the male vocalist hit all the high notes, again was amazed as those are high notes.
  5. A fair few in the punk/Oi world that have been pros for years use Mex Fenders, Squiers & Epiphones.
  6. Not to my knowledge
  7. Both written by Laurie Johnson, wonder how many other TV themes he wrote
  8. Yeah, I was one of those who sheered, probably fuelled by my then girlfriend’s infatuation with JT. I simply knew he couldn’t play, and that the bass was all done by Nick Rhodes’ keyboards.
  9. At the Rebellion Festival last year they played the theme to The Long Good Friday as intro music to a few bands and I thought that was good, but the above would top that imo.
  10. Some songs that people know but don’t rave about so that when the band come on they’re not overshadowed by the recorded material that has preceded them.
  11. I think the thing about his sound was about how well it fitted The Stranglers. His playing style and sound gave the band a different edge, made them stand out from the crowd so to speak.
  12. Yeah, the original amp he had from what I’ve read only had bass & treble so he just put both on full. Coupled with his (now) famous cab with blown speakers it created that magnificent sound which in my view has been refined and shaped but sadly never bettered.
  13. Yeah but what if they mass produced 10,000 at $3500 a piece, that was more where I was heading. They could even do it like Gibson did with the Slash Les Paul, have a tiered range and keep the original 26 high priced ones but introduce the mass produced/lower priced ones as well. Would make a lot of people happy and generate a lot of coin in the bank.
  14. Seven grand is a bit much. I’m sure it’s a great bass, and also sure the rarity bumps up the price but I think it’s a tad shortsighted. Mass produce them and add a few (maybe five) hundred extra on top and watch the money come through the doors.
  15. Really hoping to pick up a couple of the new Ashdown PRO NEO ABM210s. If no Black Friday deals I’ll wait til Xmas/New Year see if they turn up in sales then.
  16. I did wonder how he’d reached that conclusion, did he conduct a worldwide poll?
  17. Def, Andy Rourkes basslines were very melodic, and he had a great sound/tone as well.
  18. The standby light stays on when the amp is switched off? Wow, never seen that before.
  19. Must admit after reading that was very surprised about his praise/affiliation with far right stuff, not what I expected, and can understand any record company wanting to remove themselves from that.
  20. I think I’ve used it once, on In The City by The Jam - as I read somewhere that Bruce Foxton does similar.
  21. Agree, and even if the Pfizer one isn’t as easy to administer, securing a vaccine that could potentially save thousands of lives, plus the economical benefits we could get from things going back to normal I don’t see as a particularly bad thing.
  22. That’s an eye/ear opener, as the RM is a pretty full sounding amp.
  23. As long as we get a working vaccine I’m not that bothered which, tho if given the choice of which to administer from a logistical point of view Moderna would be my choice.
  24. Well I’ve decided that these are my future. I’ve recently got an ABM600 again and will pair it with two of the 210s. Just waiting on Black Friday or Xmas Sales to see if I can nab a bargain.
