He’s happy he got the gig, let’s give him some slack and congratulations.

@Graham56, re "I'm tempted by the Ashdown. I had a Mag 300 head before which had a great sound, but couldn't keep up (this was with an inefficient 210 cab). I do keep seeing comments about Ashdown output not being as loud as the wattage suggests but other people love them." This might have been the case with earlier ranges - I have to admit I thought this with an early edition ABM500 I had as a backup amp - but I`ve got the ABM600 & RM500 which are current ranges and irrespective of cab/cabs I`ve used these have always been plenty loud enough. For reference I play in a skinhead/punk band so not exactly quiet music. Like Markbass I find the Ashdown amps work well with Precisions - I used to have Markbass amps myself but moved them on due to needing a bit more upper-mids and drive for my current band.

Def, Ashdown make great quality, great sounding amps, and are very good on customer service. I`d avoided them for years based on the "woolly" comments that I`d seen banded about but got to use them as provided rigs and realised that they are top quality amps, so ditched the gear I was using in favour of Ashdown and never looked back. It`s unusual for me to keep any amp more than 6 months but I`ve now had my ABM 600 almost 3 years. I`ve also had the RM500 for a fair while too - sold my v1 to get the v2 purely due to the brushed steel front panel (much more middle aged eyesight friendly) - and it`s a cracking amp.
-
As I’m leaving my band I’m going to be offloading a lot of gear this year, can’t promise I won’t buy anything but will def be more out than in.
-
It’s something that seems to be common amongst many comparisons, the cheaper items seem livelier at lower volumes. Now whether that means once you get to loud loud volumes that means they sound harsh I don’t know, but if I think in regards to all my gear, the costlier items all sound much mellower/subdued than their more cost-friendly cousins at home volumes. Btw I’m talking same model, such as US/Mex Precisions, Fender/Squier guitars.

I’ve only auditioned twice for bands, rest of time I’ve been asked. First time was a local punk covers band who I knew, so knew what the band was about, what their gigging calendar & strategy was. Got the job and took it, was great while it lasted. Second was a rock band that put an ad up on here, based/rehearsed in High Wycombe. I got it, but the drive, which used to take me 40mins when I worked there in the 90s took over an hour on a summers eve, so I was up front and said that I knew I wouldn’t last doing that in winter. Still stuck around for a few months til they got someone permanent. And given that I’m soon to be bandless who knows what the future may bring, all I do know is that I won’t consider any bands that gig countrywide, and travel for hours to gigs. And given how much I’ve done with the current originals band I’m not sure I could even get close with another so I’ll probably look at covers. But for the moment I just need a rest from it all.

Wow, I bet that sounded immense.

A third vote on the Ashdown RM800, though to be honest I`d be shocked if anyone needed more than what the 500 watt version offers. If I`m correct that`s the reason why Ashdown discontinued the 800.

I use a Tech 21 Para Driver as an always-on eq/Drive/DI. No matter what rig I’m using I know that FOH gets what I want it to. I’d happily use any effects that songs require, but my current band is strictly the same sound all the way, touch of Drive when digging in (so all the time given my playing style) and that’s it.
-
No, I’ve used the Behringrer, EBS Multicomp and Aguilar TLC - I probably found the Behringer the easiest to use as I’m not the most competent/knowledgeable on this compression lark. I’ve also found that using a compressor with my Para Driver, even on minimum settings is futile, saps all volume & dynamics.

I had their DC9 I think it was, and it was a very good pedal. To the point where the first time I used it our lead guitarist was late, and walked in when we were playing. His first words were to ask if I’d got myself a compressor as the bass was sounding much better, more balanced and focused (he’s one of those techie people that understand sound and how it works).

Being over-flash imo.....

If I were playing without gain/drive I’d use a compressor, but the gain/drive from my Para Driver has enough compression of its own.

Some of the class d amps are pretty much put it in the bin if anything goes wrong from what I’ve heard. The Ashdown RM500 EVO II which I have luckily isn’t one of them, another reason why I’m so pleased that I use Ashdown amps.
-
Great looking bass, @12stringbassist
-
I’ve had a good few Class D amps, Ampeg (1) GK (2) Markbass (2) Ashdown (2) TC Electronic (2) and not had a problem with overheating with any of them. And I’ve used them in punk/heavy rock bands so not quiet music. However in all cases I’ve connected them to cabs that didn’t require running the amps at full pelt. Maybe the problems have come from cabs that weren’t up to the job so pushing the amps beyond their capabilities.

It’s here, I’m sorely tempted as the sound reviews on YouTube are great https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/180430326838008--fender-player-tele-butterscotch-blonde-mn-electric-guitar?gclid=CjwKCAiA_f3uBRAmEiwAzPuaM4Mfp77qvWCn14hjKla4sMZWYHEW3A12VgFGfkw9eRmXM370foIStRoC4kUQAvD_BwE -
I recently had very good customer service from Ashdown, imo they really are a quality company with great products.

GuitarGuitar are doing the butterscotch/maple Fender Player Telecaster for £399. But I want a black/maple one......... -
Herebe us handsome chappies
-
I do like that, Ian, really fits the band well.
-
I’d say go for the good Jazz as that’s the instrument type you mainly gel with, and maybe later on get something like a Squier Classic Vibe Precision. I’ve done the same but in reverse, always worth having “the other” for a bit of flexibility.

Why is picking a band name so bloody hard?
