Sold Charlie a tuner pedal. Good prompt comms throughout and advised of receipt, something I really appreciate when posting an item.
  2. Currently I have: Fender US Standard Precision x 2 Fender US Professional Jazz EBMM Stingray Am keeping those, I’ve then got the following which I’ll be putting up for grabs once the world returns to some form of normality: Fender Player Precision (buttercream/maple) Squier VM77 Jazz (Black/maple, Fender 74 pickups) Vintage V4 Tony Butler (refin in Oly white) And I’m still considering getting a 5-string..........
  3. Not exactly, I’ll always be a Precision player through and through, if I could only have one bass it would be a Precision, no contest. That said I think it’s best to outlay the various points objectively on a topic like this.
  4. As others have said, the classic question, which for me can be answered: The neck on a Jazz is slimmer. This could make it an easier bass to learn on. Precision has one pickup, and a very meaty/full powerful sound. Jazz has two pickups, a more refined sound, and more variety of sounds due to having two pickups. The Jazz can get fairly near the sound of the Precision, the Precision can’t get hear the sound of the Jazz. And finally, both of those CVS are basses I’d have been happy to have as my first bass, and similarly as others have said, go with your gut feeling and get the one that you’ve thought about and really wanted.
  5. The Squiers are very good basses, I have the Vintage Modified 77 Jazz (same black/maple as CV but with pearl blocks not black ones) and the quality and playability is amazing for a so called budget instrument.
  6. As I’m currently working on a different style of music I’m thinking a - hold on to your seats peoples - 5 string may be beneficial. There’s a lot more riffage in the material so I’m debating on this big time, plus the ideal bass, a fiver of my current 4 string Jazz is on here at present.
  7. Some nice sounds there, Andy
  8. I used Rotos for years, never once had a bad string. However due to their less than impressive life span I did a bit of research and many other Roto-lovers recommended Warwick Red Labels (steel version). They’re very similar in sound, and last at least twice, maybe three times as long. Maybe worth trying their nickel version?
  9. Don’t use Parcelforce, their T&Cs prohibit payout on musical instruments.
  10. Yep, looks like some form of dual humbuckers, possibly active, so if a different pickup setup on the bass used, well it could be tricky to emulate it. I reckon you could get nearby with a Jazz using both pickups.
  11. Depends on sound looking for, and bass being used but for me using a Precision I’d cut a bit at 400 and boost a bit at 3.2.
  12. Yes that was a great explanation, one which I’ll remember as am now trying to have easy playing basses rather than telephone wires on iron girders style set ups.
  13. Kashmir by Led Zeppelin. Not particularly difficult to play, it’s just remaining in the headspace of the continual riff for much of the song and keeping disciplined. And agree, Dave, Zep basslines are great, am glad I’ve finally gotten round to learning some of their material.
  14. How on earth did you manage to score that beauty then?
  15. Yep, for vintagey sounds Toneriders are a good call, sound very similar to Fender Custom Shop 62s.
  16. Well depending on cab you can daisy chain so as to use two cabs, so you’re not restricted to just the one. I’ve only used the TC RH amps with their RS cabs and they were a very good pairing.
  17. At a gig in Manchester last year that came on on the jukebox - us kockneykunts as we were affectionately known joined in and showed the northernmonkeys a thing or two about how to sing along to a proper song.
  18. He was no slouch in his Kajagoogoo days so he must be pretty immense now.
  19. These are great basses, I foolishly sold mine.
  20. Good call, I have this as my ringtone, no matter what my mood is every time I hear it it makes me feel better.
  21. If you had more they would form an even surface, so no tripping hazards......
  22. Has a bit of n Another One Bites The Dust sort of feel to it. Great to hear the bass being used properly in some modern songs.
  23. Agree. For some reason though I only like this format on Stingrays, on other basses it just looks wrong to me.
  24. Black, black, maple:
  25. I’ve Jazzes with both, and true to that old theory, I sound like me on either, the spacing doesn’t really affect the sound for me. That said my fave Jazz sound is Deon Usted playing for Wham! Whichever he used is the one I like the sound of best. I suspect a 70s purely to the era, but I may be wrong.
