  1. For me the big gear simply sounds better. Put on a very big stage I think that the bigger gear really comes into its own. That said I loved the sound of my Ashdown RM500 & 2 x RM210s the other week.
  2. I’m quite easy to please: YES - Is a Precision NO - Is not a Precision
  3. I love mine, it’s rare for me to keep gear for more than 6 months and I’ve had the 600 for three years. Its a very loud, date I say hefty amp, the notes are big and powerful. Plus you get the legendary Ashdown customer service thrown in. I will be selling it very soon if interested (see my thread about having had to leave my band) just gotta pay my £20 subs to put it - along with my ABM cabs and numerous basses - up for sale on here.
  4. Yep, got all my gear including amps/cabs/pedals with them.
  5. Well I have to say that aside from the low low stuff requiring a low B the Squier VM77 Jazz can do a great deal, just with the pickups and tone control, I can make it fit most of the genres I play along to, from Oi to Motown.
  6. As title says, I’ve had to leave my band due to health reasons. Nothing serious or life-threatening, I’ve just realised that I can’t hack the gigging all over the country/in Europe whilst holding down a full time job, it’s just taking its toll on me. I don’t sleep well due to a back injury and the long hours travelling means I feel stinky poo virtually all the time when regularly gigging due to being knackered all the time. As I suffer with depression at times I’ve come to the realisation that my moods are linked very much to how I’m feeling physically, and when I’m not gigging/exhausted and going to the gym regularly I feel great. I can’t do this during periods of regular gigging due to needing rest, so when regularly gigging I pretty much do nothing apart from work/rest/gig. And we gig pretty much all the time. The annoying thing is is that when I’m feeling exhausted through gigging the only time I feel good is when I’m on stage - the very thing that is causing me to feel bad, a real chicken & egg situation. So I’ve decided to leave, in fact the decision was made a few months back and the guys were told then, I don’t feel great about it but for the sake of my physical and mental health, plus the sake of the band - we signed up with a German record company this year who have put out our 4th album, meaning more European work - it was a decision I had to take. I’ve done almost everything I’ve ever dreamed of musically in this band, other than play in the USA, and it means the world to me so to say I’m gutted is a real understatement. To get through it I’m looking at it along the same lines of a footballer whose legs have gone and can no longer play at the same level, age has finally caught up with me.
  7. Well mine has stopped working, only had it just over a year, 40 odd gigs and mostly weekly rehearsals. I’ve e-mailed them and the AUS dept has been very good (was the only actual e-mail contact I could find). Quite typically dealing with the UK has not been anywhere near as straightforward, almost set up to prevent contact a conspiracy theorist might think. I’ll update once I have any kind of response/conclusion.
  8. I’ve found that the Fender 74s that I’ve installed in my Squier VM 77 Jazz are able to get quite near the Precision sound with careful blending and eq, though do have to admit from what I’ve read about them the Dimarzio Model J would probably be my first shot to try and get the P-bass sound.
  9. Played the Morecambe Punk Festival yesterday. We were on at 8:45 so a good time-slot, before the audience got too hammered, lol. Sound out front for all bands was great, really powerful and very importantly they made sure the vocals were loud. On stage sound was good too as we gave over our printed monitor specs to the engineer (professional huh) so he could make sure we had what was needed. I was using some form of Peavey stack (210 combo plus 410 cab) and it was really nice and solid sounding, with my trusty Para Driver doing the eq/FOH. The gig itself was great, audience really into it, the sound of them singing along to almost every word was amazing, lots of dancing/moshing going on, and a few crowd-surfers as well. For some reason the North West has really taken to us “cockneykunts” as they call us, we just love the gigs up there, just a shame it’s so far away!
  10. I use New Moon, easy to set up, and there was a 10% discount for Basschat members.
  11. Last week I saw a bassist use one of these plugged into an Ashdown 410. Not sure how much on-stage volume was generated but it was a really nice sound FOH, and considering he was using a Rickenbacker, not a bit tiny or twangy, just a good balanced bass sound.
  12. Then imo any of the Barefaced range that include 12” speakers will be ideal for you, will fit the bill perfectly.
  13. I’ve not had any bad purchases this year, but 3 have really stood out on the good side: Squier VM 77 Jazz Bass, simply put the Jazz Bass I’ve been looking for for years. TC Electronic Unitune Clip, had been looking for a clip-on tuner that would actually work in a live environment, this does. Ashdown RM210 Cabs, bought back off of our very own @bassix, had forgotten how great they sound, and how easy they are to cart about. Thats all folks, thank you very much.
  14. Tech21 Para Driver, Boss TU2, then spend the rest on mince pies.
  15. Once In a Lifetime by Talking Heads, the bass stays pretty much the same riff/2 notes throughout, whereas the guitars/vocals/drums make the verses & choruses different.
  16. Pro Steels are probably, no make that definitely the most comfortable to play rounds I’ve used. Ultimately I found them too polite and even-sounding for my current needs but that’s more of a complement if anything, I need rough and ready and they were too polished/professional sounding.
  17. Next on my list are The Darkness, in Watford in December. Was ill when they last toured so didn’t get to see them so really looking forward to this one.
  18. Def, I think the supposed scooped sound in the mix comes more from the fresh rounds, they just emphasise the highs and lows, some brands more than others.
  19. Wow, if all of those are going to be available on this pedal that’s an amazing amount of versatility.
  20. I had the 4ohm version of the RM410, it sounded great, a bit less scooped sounding than the ABM but tonally not that far apart. I used it with my ABM600 and it handled the power really well. I only moved it on due to vanity of wanting an ABM stack, in reality it was an excellent cab that was more than sufficient for my needs, I’d recommend the RM cabs to anyone (my current gigging set up is two of the 210s).
  21. For my current needs a Precision strung with Rotosound Steel Rounds is king. Unfortunately Rotosounds die very quickly and I need new string sound so I’ve switched to Warwick Red Label Steel Rounds, they sound almost the same but last at least twice as long, and are half the price so win all round.
