EU artists will need a VISA to perform in UK from 2021
Lozz196 replied to kyuuga's topic in General Discussion
A band I know travelled to the US undercover for a gig, but made the mistake of having set lists on them. Don’t know what line they spun but they got in and managed to do the gig as well. -

Pretty much nothing. I know of many bands that play in one area of the world which has rather stringent regulations and from my understanding all of them manage it as above. You run the risks of course, but it can be done. -

The Fleece is a great venue, totally ridiculous putting those flats up there. Played many a good gig at The Fleece, one of the venues I will miss now I’m no longer gigging. -

On the gigs which we did in Europe where we just needed guitars we flew. I wish we’d taken the train, both for the above reasons and, much like Mr T, I hate flying. -
Now Sold One rather nice US Precision in Oly White - or as our drummer used to call it, cheesecake - it’s much creamier looking in real life than the pics suggest. In good condition, a couple of slight knocks as per pics, has graphite rods in the neck for stability, Custom Shop 62 pickups, hi-mass bridge and I’ve added a string retainer to the A tuner plus a Graph Tec nut. Comes in a Hiscox hard case. All important Basschat answer is 3.85kg or 8lbs7.8oz In true Basschat spirit am looking to recoup what I paid for it, £850. No trades. Can look at shipping at buyers expense.

Quite agree Gary, it started out about musicians and the difficulties that we’ll be facing due to recent changes, which as far as I can see fits in General Music. Yes there will be added difficulties but the bands that really want to do it will work with those difficulties and find their way. I agree it will have an effect but so do many things in life. -
It’s a nice grind that he gets, especially on Superstition. I think I’d be looking at the Tech21 VTDI or the Ampeg Scrambler/SCRDI, something warm/valvey sounding, but what doesn’t colour the natural sound of your bass too much. I can do similar with my Para Driver if I keep the blend back to midday rather than on full.

Very 80s, love the look of those.

Think of how difficult it must have been for bands back in the 60s/70s to do all this without the benefits of the internet to help and take the strain. They all managed, why would we be so pitiably unable. Sure it’s more to do but those that want to do it will do, and reap the rewards that those that can’t be bothered let them take. -
Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett Stadium Tour

Every time I`ve seen Crue when I`ve been drunk I thought they were great. Every time I`ve seen them when I was sober I thought they weren`t. Saying that I`ll still go to one of these if they come over here. Did think that 2007s Saints of Los Angeles was very under-rated.- 6 replies

Well update to the updates, have now tried Precision, Stingray and Jazz, all with Para Driver & Compressor and I’ve found that the Jazz on its own straight into the rehearsal rooms Ampeg is what works best. Me using a Jazz Bass, funny old game this music lark, at long last I’ve managed to get a Jazz Bass to work well for me, only taken some 40 years.

Agree, I wasn’t that keen on it at first, as the lyrics hold pretty much no relevance to me or my life, so just thought it a bit meh. But then I had the bizarre thought - he was singing about his life/experiences, at that point I listened harder and to be honest some of what he was saying I found quite uncomfortable to hear, that black people still have such prejudices to overcome. Quite shameful that society is still geared like this. And so very right that he has this platform to make it known.

I think it’s due to both that for one they usually come from the backgrounds described so it’s personal but also that the musical platform gives the opportunity to air said views to a wide audience. Going back to my punk analogy I’m sure there were many disaffected youths around before The Sex Pistols/Clash/SLF raised their voices, they just voiced what was important at the time to said youth.

Nice one, I’d love to have had an instrument for that amount of time, can only imagine the history you have with it.

Chapter IV by Booze & Glory. I’d been so looking forward to it’s release, and when it came out I was seriously underwhelmed. Aside from the 2 songs that I already knew it just didn’t seem like the old B&G. But I persisted and now it’s definitely one of my fave albums ever. The songwriting, playing, production, all of it just add up to an amazing album, much less Oi than their previous material but no less powerful, plus lyrically dealing with subjects not approached before.

Good cabs, I’d put them sound wise midway between the Ampeg HLE & HLF. Not as heavy as the Ampeg, though they are front heavy rather than even weight. They’re also a 4ohm cab so that’s something to consider.

I thought his piano playing was great. I wasn’t that keen on the lyrical content at first (not through dislike or prejudice, from not having had the experiences mentioned) then halfway through realised what he is doing is exactly what the music I love, punk did - pointing out inequalities and injustices, at that point I thought well done. But I still thought the piano playing was the best part of his performance.

Round wounds, more gain and upper mids than would be expected would be a good starter I’d reckon.

Banannna!

Looks wise Gibson Thunderbird or Rickenbacker 4001/3.

Not had one of the 810s but had most of the rest of the range and thought they were all very good. Bassier, treblier but less middy than any equivalent Ampeg, probably just as heavy. A cab that can hold its own on festival stages for sure.
-
I`ve found that - on the `Ray itself - cutting treble pretty much fully and cutting the mids by about 50%, but then - on my amp or eq pedal - adding in hi-mids at around 2.5kHz and treble to suit I can get fairly near. It`s a case of reducing that very hi-end, but then adding in highs in the right sort of area which does it.

Now Sold Now £40. Pretty much the industry standard, one BOSS TU2 up for grabs. Comes in proper box for item. In decent nick, fully working, has had Velcro on before but now that has been removed, left a couple of bits of residue on the bottom but nothing to be concerned about. Price includes insured/tracked delivery within the UK.

Item now sold One Tech21 Para Driver v2 in good condition up for grabs. Comes in the lovely tin box. Although not a bass specific pedal this item really works with the bass - think Tech21 Sansamp Bass Driver with sweepable adjustable mids (from 160Hz to 3kHz) and you have this pedal. I`m only selling as I have 2 and now I`m not in a gigging band don`t need a backup. Price includes insured/tracked delivery within the UK.

The Sex Pistols - simply the most exciting band I’d ever heard when they emerged to the masses in 1977, and still are today. Stiff Little Fingers - first punk band I actually saw, back in 1980 probably. I listened to these more throughout the 90s than any other band and loved the new material they were releasing. Hanoi Rocks - found out about them just as they split up. A real influence on both music and image for me, and their live album All Those Wasted Years was never far from my car stereo in 1986, def the sound of the best summer of my life.
