  1. Worked with one of those, he really was inspired once he started but could never remember where the solos were meant to be. After the second chorus. In every song. Not complicated.
  2. I’ve been a confirmed steel-rounds player for years, the most comfortable of those that I found was D’addario Pro Steels. Otherwise I’ve been really impressed by Ernie Ball Super Slinkies.
  3. I have with amps & cabs, gone from boutique lightweight expensive gear to regularly affordable Ashdown gear (which I prefer the sound of), but not basses. I have gigged with Squiers and MIM Fenders and in all honesty the ones I’ve used have been more than enough for my needs, but the more expensive which I have I prefer.
  4. Awesome, the combination of the Celestion Heritage & Vintage speakers is an out & out winner, serious amount of cab at this price.
  5. You’ve got it up to a great finish, congrats, when you get a good one you get a good one.
  6. I just love playing live, so whatever other circumstances there within whatever bands framework, well they generally fall away once I’m up there. Not in a gigging band at present mind.
  7. Some people just won`t say what they mean...……………...
  8. That`s my plan, get down to 2, one with flats one with rounds.
  9. Not exactly but I can see where you’re coming from. I’m doing classic rock at the moment and with keys and humbucking guitar the Precision was a bit “bulky”, all getting a bit congested. So the tighter more focused sound of the ‘Ray sprung to mind but didn’t want that real toppy high end, plus one set of flats, last me for a good while.
  10. Well an update to the above, although I loved the Ernie Ball Super Slinkies that came on it I had a thought in the back of my mind to try Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. Chose the same gauge, 45 - 100 and have to say I’m really pleased with them. I’m getting the high end of rounds but without the added harmonic content that comes with rounds, plus they tame that sizzle you get on a ‘Ray. This bass is doing just what I wanted which is to tame my punk orientated style, I’m already noticing a, dare I say it, more measured sound (and this isn’t only to do with my new compressor. Who’d have thought it, confirmed Precision/rounds player like me using a flats-strung Stingray with a compressor. This must be equivalent to man learning to stand on two feet.
  11. The RM500 EVO-II. It’s a great little amp, the - oh no, I’m going to use the H-word - heftiest small Class D amp I’ve used, very loud, great eq options and nice and lightweight. And as Dan Dare said, if there’s a problem Ashdown can fix them, most (if not all) of the parts are designed to be able to be changed.
  12. And in regards to finding more room, to quote Scotty: Ye cannae change the laws of phusics.
  13. Yep, great bass line, Macca was/is a seriously good bassist, much more complex & melodic than given credit for.
  14. Our guitarist in an old punk covers band did exactly the same, Les Paul Custom out of the door, Love Rock there to stay. Fantastic guitars.
  15. If I answered that question it would be because I’d sold one.
  16. It’s a good call, last year my bass inexplicably wouldn’t work at a gig - was fine at home when I checked it before leaving - so borrowed a Squier Matt Freeman Precision for the gig. Was great, only cost a third (maybe even a quarter) of my US Precision and was plenty enough for me - why on Earth did Squier stop making them?
  17. Band members without their own gear or without transport.
  18. Possibly , I’ve currently got two, and have had about four others and only had a very minor problem with one (a faulty mute switch).
  19. Before, just bought a compressor myself so researched this last week.
  20. In my last band I used a variety of gear-share/provided rigs. The two that I liked playing through most were Ampeg SVTs and Ashdown ABMs. Couldn’t lift the SVTs so went ABM and never regretted it.
  21. Just had a look, the below us from the site - which is great as I’ve got one on the way: Includes 9V Daisy Chain PSU & Convenient Carry Bag
  22. Just sorted a G-Bone 5 space pedalboard (and a Boss Bass Chorus Pedal). Unexpected Friday spend, aaagh!!
  23. They’re a bit more hit & miss pre 2008, as it’s local try it out, let the hands & ears decide.
  24. Thumbs up from me, nailed it.
  25. Decent amps those, and you can get different sets of valves that “change the flavour” of the sound. I went for the higher gain set with mine and it was very nice.
