  1. Well in that case, ‘‘twas Steve on rhythm gtr, me on bass, Mark Emmins on vocals, Julian Cooper (Ray Coopers Son) on lead gtr and Mick Green on drums.
  2. Yeah was in a band - Blackreign - with him in the early 90s, he was on rhythm guitar.
  3. Congrats, my fave series for Precisions, just play/feel/sound right.
  4. I never had any problems with any of my BF cabs but whenever I contacted them for any advice or guidance the response was always very swift. Very good customer service in my experience of dealing with them.
  5. I’ve seen it happen more with vocals than anything. I know some people prefer the vocals low (we prefer ours to not only be heard but to be understood) but I’ve seen some support bands where the vocals couldn’t be heard at all. Now irrespective of main/support band how can anyone working a sound desk not for one be aware of it, and secondly then try and sort it.
  6. See that’s wrong isn’t it, I know some may say the night is all about the headliner but I don’t get that, the soundman is being paid for a whole evening, he should therefore work for the whole evening and apply the best sound possible to all the bands. Glad you went down well despite that.
  7. It was, and all bands on the bill that I saw had a great gig as well which made it even better.
  8. Aside from making sure I have all the gear I need and allowing enough time to get there the main thing for me is making sure I drink enough water. On gigs where I’ve failed to do that I’ve found myself really struggling. Oh, and having a pre-match pee, being in my 50s have to make sure u don’t want to go mid-gig!
  9. Depends on the style you like but my current faves (all Oi/streetpunk bands) are The Old Firm Casuals, The Last Resort, Argy Barny and Booze & Glory. Another fave - still punk - is Dirtbox Disco.
  10. Just back from a punk festival type gig in Great Portland St, London. Two stages, with bands although not starting at same times, on simultaneously, we were on the smaller of the two. The event was run very professionally, everything was spot on even to the security team briefing which largely said “they’re gonna look like they’re fighting, they’re not, unless someone goes down and isn’t helped straight back up leave them alone they’re just having fun”. Sound was good on soundcheck, the soundman clearly a guy who knew his job, which always makes for a good gig. So we went on at 8pm for a 30min set and it was amazing, the room probably held 250/300 and they had to stop people coming in as it was so rammed. The mosh pit was exactly as the security team discussed, frenzied but friendly and the reception we got was out of this world. We had people come from as far away as Chester just to see us, and the comments from audience members throughout the rest of the evening were nothing short of amazing. Quite humbling really.
  11. I’m not sure it’s mythical at all, the ABMs are chock-full of heft.
  12. There are many bands with only one original member left, that’s fine with me, but once there are no original members - well some could say it’s then become a tribute band. That said in some cases the non-original band members have been in the band longer than the originals, so that puts a different light in it again. Too confusing all this.
  13. Just watching the PSBs on BBC Red Button. Yes not the most interesting show to watch but think they’ve represented their studio work very well on this live performance. Similar to @Ed_S although I’m predominantly into heavier music I’ve always quite liked PSBs.
  14. Structure - we’ve got bookings solidly until May next year, with others sporadically after that, but that’s being added to all the time. If anything we try to keep some time free for when the opportunity for tours/overseas come in.
  15. For me that’s a rather polite well balanced tone, and I once had a Norstrand NP4 in a Precision that would do that tone rather well.
  16. 3 for me. Not fussed about dings/wear etc, and as long as the truss rod is confirmed as fully operational I’m happy.
  17. I’ve had my ABM600 EVO IV for nearly three years now, and not a single problem. 3hr rehearsals, day-long recording sessions, plus virtually weekly gigs, connected to all kinds of provided cabs as well as my own EVO IV 410 & 210. For me it’s been a great amp, on bigger stages it retains a depth to the sound that smaller amps seem to lose, but similarly on smaller stages doesn’t overpower them. It also doesn’t lose anything when playing at lower volumes, not an amp that needs to be pushed to sound good.
  18. Any of the generic ones in ebay should fit, but I always buy actual Fender ones - look on Thomann or Stringsdirect, they’re more expensive but they are better quality.
  19. I saw them last year at Rebellion and did think that they played well. However I think many in the audience were concentrating with their eyes rather than their ears. Shame really, I think they’re much better than titilation but given their lack of clothing they’ll always attract a crowd wanting an eyeful.
  20. Yep, Fender Rumble, Ashdown RM, Ampeg PF will all get there nicely. For a few more quids add in Aguilar Tonehammer and SL cabs.
  21. I’ve been to see my old band a few times. I left as I was no longer enjoying it and didn’t want to hang around and be the one who drags it all down. Was great seeing them and both hearing the old songs I played on, and the newer ones showing their new direction.
  22. Yeah we were chatting about that, I used his other MF, the white one.
  23. Played last night. Checked the bass I was taking beforehand as I always do. Didn’t take a backup for a variety of reasons - new car so not yet sure how much fits in it (was picking up guitarist with his gear too) and the usual “I’ve never needed a backup” lazyman theory. Gig to the sound check, plugged in, nothing. After some help from the sound guy it turned out to be the input jack, the material was so weak that it had just given up, bending it into position was fine, put the hack plug in it and it bent it out of position with no contact. Luckily the headline bands bassist allowed both support bands to use their backup bass (insult to injury here, I was meant to be loaning my bass to the first band on who had come over from Germany). So to anyone who doesn’t need a backup, in my 30 plus years of gigging I never have until last night. Lesson learned, always take a backup bass, doh!
  24. So right. When we started out the drummer was in another band. We got a great offer to support a well known band, playing early. But he had a gig with his covers band the same evening. Now we would have been on at 7:30 - 8, his covers band would have started at 9:30. It was a 30min drive between venues. But the other band refused to set everything up, saying they all needed to be there for that, so we didn’t get to do the gig. Now there is the argument that he was in the covers band long before we formed, so in reality it was us diluting the covers band, and not long after he did leave as he couldn’t stay in 2 regular gigging bands full time.
