  1. Looks great, black/black/maple always a winner imo.
  2. I tried a Dingwall at a bass bash a few years back and was amazed at how easy it was to get used to the fanned frets.
  3. Reverse psychology, tell him that although his bass lines are good you think they’re getting in the way of his sublime sax melodies, so it would be best to dumb said bass lines down in order to not do so - but do admit it will pain you to do this.
  4. If weight/size isn’t an issue then I’d look at 2nd hand Peavey, Hartke, Ashdown. You’ll get a lot for your money. That said how do you feel about your current GK and its sound - if you like it then I’d look at staying with the brand, GK does have its own sound.
  5. I can help with aged white/maple Precision - will be putting a US one up for sale on here soon - can’t help with the tort tho, only have a deep red one.
  6. Like big-time, you’ve really captured the ‘pulsing’ feel of that bass line.
  7. Difficult to beat black/maple, congrats Tim, the Player Precisions are great basses. Oh, great cat too.
  8. Same here, as long as it’s guitar based and got some aggression/urgency, well that’s my bag.
  9. Thanks Dave, that will be a big help.
  10. I’m currently learning a different style of music, but it’s still playing with a pick and guitar-based. Unless I was looking to be depping or a session musician learning styles/types of music I don’t like isn’t for me, I only want to get enjoyment from the bass, so only play - or attempt to play - stuff I like.
  11. Moving on in the Rainbow world, Stargazer is now getting some attention. There’s just one bit I can’t get, a fiddly run at the start. I’ve got the notes from tab but they just don’t seem to fit so gonna wait til we rehearse and see what the guitarist does and just match that.
  12. Awesome, been getting into Rainbow recently and Cozy Powell’s drums were great.
  13. I’ve used the DI on mine a few times when sound engineers don’t want to use the DI in my Sansamp, I’ve set it pre and then altered the eq on the amp to match whatever cab I’ve been using and the (previously mentioned rather fussy) sound engineers haven’t complained about changing levels, so I’m pretty sure - certainly pre, that eq and level adjustments don’t affect the DI.
  14. This is a very good point. I prefer the heck profile on my US Ps, but once the band is going there’s no real difference in the mix between them and the Player.
  15. And I think Ampeg with their SVT3-PRO.
  16. And a great bass line to play.
  17. The tuners on my Player Precision have been fine, no issues at all. I left it in Germany from Sep til Dec last year and when I unlocked the case and took it out it was still tuned perfectly, and there was no more adjustments needed during the gigs than on my US Precision.
  18. I’d say get the instrument you felt most comfortable with. I learned on a short scale bass and it wasn’t a problem moving to regular scale so I wouldn’t have too many concerns in that area. The instrument you gel with best will make learning so much easier.
  19. The different strings could be a factor, my passive Precision string with steel rounds is louder than my active Stingray stung with nickel rounds.
  20. TC Unitune, it actually works in a gig environment, it’s all I’ve used for gigs since I bought one for a flying gig to cut down on weight.
  21. Funny old game, weight measurements. In the current situation I can relate how heavy the items are if described in grams, haven’t got a clue if in ounces. But go that bit heavier and it’s stones/pounds that I understand, clueless on kilos.
  22. I’m none the wiser from the pic, other than that it looks great.
  23. I’ve not played the Jazz but if the quality is similar to the Precisions then go for it, they are very good basses, play really well and sound good too.
  24. Pretty much the same as mine, great basses imo and a good price, glwts.
