POLL - Are bass players the most reliable band members?
Lozz196 replied to Dubs's topic in General Discussion
We’re all pretty much as reliable was each other, no issues with any of us (aside from being grumpy middle aged men of course). -
Without quoting the whole post I think the sleeve artwork is great and should encourage sales nicely.
-
Agree, if trying to establish yourself do exactly that to the biggest audiences possible. Take the hit financially for a while, once the name is out there the bigger fees and greater merch sales come in. It’s how we’ve worked from the start and we’ve progressed it fairly well.

I keep my Ashdown RM500 in a Wenger wheeled laptop case. It has enough room for the amp, power lead, 2 x speaker leads, 2 pedals, 2 x instrument leads and wireless kit. It’s a sturdy bit of kit with a fairly small footprint so easy in the car/on stage etc.

One thing I’d probably look at is playing with some overdrive and increased mids during the solos in a covers band. Nothing Lemmyish, just go from clean to that driven if digging in setting, plus upping mids a notch, not becoming a rhythm guitar exactly but stepping into that sort of area. Maybe even have a small combo set like that to kick in for solos - that way as well as keeping the clean low end but also adding drive plus mids it would be adding another speaker into the mix, further padding out the sound.
-
I tend to add in notes when the guitar solos, not so much runs, example if the passage is in B I’ll drop down to an A or an F# every now and then, as if the solo is over a verse I don’t really like playing anything different to the regular verses but don’t like the solos to be too sparse.

I think the only time it can be a problem is if one band wants to be gigging every weekend. At that point unless the other band only wants to gig mid-week how can It work.
-
I think you’re like me, I just love the sound of Ampeg cabs that have 10 inch drivers in them. I’ve used a variety of them, with a lot of different amp heads and they’ve always sounded great, just a shame I can’t lift any of them.
-
It depends on budget of course, as a good 210 or 112 such as Barefaced should be plenty in the band set up described. If the pocket doesn’t extend that far then I’d look at a 410 as the greater number of speakers would help given that in all likelihood it wouldn’t be such a good quality cab.
-
I recently offloaded an Ashdown Perfect Ten - 30 or 40 watts into a 10 inch speaker, was a nice little amp. Worth checking these out seeing as you like the Ashdown sound.

Nice looking bass, you’ll get a fair bit of attention playing that....,, As people will think you’re s guitarist 🤣 I say that having played a Les Paul bass in the past and the exact same happened to me.

Anything less than 8lbs and I feel like I’m playing some form of fragile toy. I suppose I’m lucky really, current band never likely to do more than an hours set, and even then thats not a regular occurrence, so 9lb basses not that much of a problem. Don’t miss the weight of my 10.5lb 70s Precisions though.

Nice cabs, I had the 210/115 for a short while but moved the 115 on to get another 210 - made the sound more punchy. They sound very ABM like, maybe not quite so scooped and low-end biased. On regular sized stages/pub gigs I didn’t notice much difference at all between them and my ABM cabs. On bigger stages it does become apparent, the weight of sound of the ABMs comes across better. I had Ashdown put in some Eminence cones in my RM210s to increase power handling, I then sold them, and then in an about turn bought them back a couple of months ago. Great cabs imo.

Really Annoyed.....Your thought's please!!!!
Lozz196 replied to thebigyin's topic in General Discussion
They’re playing at it, aren’t they. I’d simply say fair enough, when you don’t turn up for a gig that we’ve booked because you’ve decided to go on holiday we accept your resignation at that point. -
The Tonerider is more like the Custom Shop 62, which to me is more low-mid focused than hi-mid like the Original.
-
You can use it no problem, just also use your ears to make sure it’s not struggling - you’ll notice if it is - and if it does back off of the lows a tad.
-
Maybe contact Martin Herrick of Herrick’s Pickups, I’m sure he’ll be able to assist on this.
-
Of course the Barefaced cab will be good and work well, but it is worth trying the RM115 as Lee at Ashdown suggested. They know their products well and what will work best to achieve specific tonal goals.
-
Definitely, never leave them in the car, and if we’re doing gigs where we stay in hotels I use my small class D amp so that comes into the hotel too.
-
Nice reviews there, seems Aggie won handsomely.

We’ve been quite lucky, only downer was playing with a named band from back in the day, they wouldn’t move their drum kit (stage approx 12 feet wide/6feet deep) and wouldn’t allow us in the dressing room - basically playing billybigbollox, it was in a working mans club on a real rough estate, not like it was a proper venue. Living off of the 3 songs they’ve written that people actually like. The promoters should have had a better handling of it but they shied away (though did apologise to us).

Gotoh are great bits of kit and look very much like the stock Fender bridges, just beefed up a bit, so if you don’t want to change the look too much def worth a look.

Nice, the Squier VMs are great instruments
