  1. Well I’ve still got my non-gigging classic rock band so will still be doing that once every couple of weeks, and I really enjoy it too so it’s not all bad.
  2. Just got in from my penultimate Spacewasters gig at the New Cross Inn, SE London, last day of the 3 day Psychobilly Freakout. Reasonable sized crowd for a 5:50 set - some people had done all 3 days! Played well on our 40min set, and in our new matching rock n roll bowling shirts looked the part too. Audience was very appreciative. Back line was provided, a TC amp of some sort into an Orange cab, was easy to get a good sound with my JMJ Mustang. Footwear was DM Dealer boots. I’m going to miss this gigging lark, but sadly it just does me in now.
  3. Just got back from a gig where I used one of these, great sounding cab.
  4. I’m surprised you’ve put up with it @Sean, doesn’t sound like a pleasant place to be.
  5. Overdone the spend there, Chris……
  6. I bought a Fender Rumble 800, as needed lightweight and easy to set up (the usual back issues prompting the purchase). I went for the 800 as it’s lighter than the 500, it’s only around 13kg, and being a 2x10 can hold its own unless in daftly loud situations.
  7. Best is easily my Sandberg Superlight California TT. The difference playing a 6lb bass makes to my back is quite amazing. Roll on my Sandberg Superlight Lionel (due Nov 2026). Worst, well I decided to buy a nostalgia bass, a Yamaha BB1100s as this was my first “proper” bass. As well as overpaying for it it also needed some work doing on it. It’s still a great bass but given overpayment & work needed that has to make it the worst purchase.
  8. Being down south I’ve never used them but was a name I’d been aware of for years. It’s such a shame but as per other threads the online mega stores seem to be taking over.
  9. Thanks very much, that was indeed the one, purchase just made
  10. I had a live CD of theirs, came with a Sunday newspaper supplement, annoyingly I can’t find it now but it was superb, those great songs made even greater with live performance.
  11. In my last band the singer/guitarist wrote most of the songs. I contributed with a good percentage but music only. Sometimes I’d have an idea of a lyrics to a chorus which led to the theme of the song, other times no ideas on that at all so he would put whatever he was writing to it. It never bothered me what subject matter was put to my music. Sometimes we might each add a bridge, a start/ending, or changes to the others structure, again never any issues.
  12. I don’t think that most of the people I’ve been in bands with would even know what a Precision was, let alone tell me I should be using one.
  13. I`ve found in general to set the heights approximately (from the body) 2mm on E, 6mm on A & E, and 5mm on G, then adjust to the individual bass. But of course this is suited to my playing style, might not suit others.
  14. As a confirmed Precision man of course I’m going to say yes. But rationally speaking, if you need that sound then yes, because although many basses will get near it, well it’s only near, not spot on. But if it’s just because, well because, then probably not.
  15. Not that I need any more basses but sounds ideal for me then, as I generally boost the highs a fair bit on my Precisions, even though I`m a pick player.
  16. Volbeat in a couple of weeks, soooooo looking forward to it
  17. I don`t see any issues in buying something at current market value, then selling it some years later at the then current market value. Similarly if lucky enough to pick up a bargain and selling it at market value, well the new buyer isn`t being ripped off as that`s what the item is selling for. Still looking for that `59 Les Paul up for a tenner at the local boot sale, it`s there somewhere......
  18. I’ve encountered problems from both sides on this: One bassist took 20 minutes to put her lead and bass into her gig-bag. That’s 20 minutes out of the 15 minute changeover, putting me under pressure to get set up swiftly shall we say. On finishing a gig immediately the next bassist was up on stage unloading his gear. My rather frank “the sooner I can get to my effing gear the sooner I’ll be out of your effing way” was both effective and motivational.
  19. Lovely looking bass
  20. That is a great tone, I’m a Duff fan too
  21. My last gig with The Spacewasters was early Sept, we have one this Sunday and had a rehearsal on Saturday to run through the set a couple of times. More than anything it was for the 2 guitarists who in the downtime have got together and worked out "this solo is best for you/this is what I should do for rhythm underneath" sort of stuff, they got to put it into practice on Sat and the work they`ve done really went well.
  22. I`ve put a sticker on mine that reads "if no sound check headphone switch on the back" as have been brought to a state of major panic at gigs when my RM has appeared to not be working due to this.
  23. Interesting that given he both tuned up to F# and used quite light strings his sound had such a good low-end.
  24. On the basses I have with through-body stringing I always use it. Not for sound, or string tension, but to make sure those darn ferrules don`t fall out and get lost!
