  1. I watched a bit but the way he does The Police songs now isn’t for me, sure they’re much better crafted now but I prefer them in their original form. Did think that his band were great though, a full sound with a remarkable amount of space, not an easy feat at all yet they seemed to manage it with ease.
  2. Sorry to hear this, dreadful news
  3. As a side issue @fretmeister, if you want JCM800 but in a package that can be carted about easily check out Blu Guitar amps. That’s what I had and put through my Barefaced Big Baby. A few old mates I was in rock bands with were amazed at the sound saying it was just like a Marshall valve amp. Harley Benton do a great 1x12 cab with a Vintage 30 in it, would make a great lightweight setup.
  4. I think GR are pretty much as light as it gets, Bass Direct stock them, got to be worth a look online - and if promising a visit.
  5. For a pick averse player I’d go for something around 0.73 to 0.88mm, nothing too rigid. I’d also go for something quite large so there’s plenty to grip. Dunlop do triangle shaped picks which is also a bonus as each point works as a pick so if it rotates in your grip you can still use it quite easily. I’ve loads of picks so PM me your details and I’ll send a few over if that’s any help.
  6. From what I`ve read yes, Andy Bell has the (rather non-existent) low-end role
  7. I can`t see how two 1x10 cabs won`t be as loud as either of the Midgets, old and new both being 1x12 - if anything I`d expect the sound to be fuller with the two 1x10s.
  8. I’d say the main thing is establishing what “your key” is. Mine is A, so many of the songs which I love I transpose to A otherwise I simply can’t reach much of them. Also means I can deliver a bit more power rather than over-reaching and sounding thin. I’d of course love to be able to do them in the proper keys but acknowledge my limits - which in regards to singing aren’t that good.
  9. As much as I love playing bass with my bands I’m equally happy playing along to my fave songs on YouTube at home. I just love playing bass. I pick up my guitars every now & then (especially the acoustic if I feel like singing) but I get more enjoyment from the bass/fave songs/YouTube thing.
  10. I do struggle to get other sounds but that`s mainly due to that even though I`m trying to achieve them I find as they`re not my preferred tone they just sound wrong to me when I play them. I suppose that`s just a way of telling me I have the right sound for me.
  11. Updating this for anyone interested, the dimensions of the Gator GC-Elec-XL seem to have shrunk as the one I ordered was too small for my JMJ Mustang to fit in. However going by a tip-off on Talkbass I ordered a Gator GW-JAG and this is fine.
  12. In be answer to the two Hartke cabs I can’t see why they wouldn’t work, I’ve seen a bassist use two of them in a regular pub covers band, no FOH, and there was plenty enough volume.
  13. I used a Barefaced Big Baby II for guitar and it worked quite nicely. I was putting a Marshall JCM900 type sound through it.
  14. I’d been playing since 1980 but only had cheap gear. I’d been kidding myself that I was in a band with my mates but in reality I wasn’t. At the start of 1987 something - not sure what - clicked and I thought I’ve got to take this more seriously, get myself a good bass, do this properly. And within about a month I was in my first real band. Maybe it was the realisation that I was never going to do anything with my mates and that if I really wanted to do music I had to reach further afield but I just took the next step.
  15. For me the early 90s were poor until Britpop came along. I just curse my own stupidity for making a pint glass my priority instead of going to see those exciting bands of the time.

  17. I’d be delighted to hear of this happening.
  18. Thing for me is they have a face value. This to me is like my local garage charging a fiver for the last 5 copies of The Sun/Mirror due to “demand ”. Shouldn’t be permitted, the band set the prices, that’s what they should go for. This a question as I don’t know, re this hideous mark-up, do Oasis or Ticketmaster get it?
  19. The baddies in Scooby Doo would have got away with it if they done that.
  20. Well done to them if they can do something to prevent this.
  21. Agree over the last couple of years I’ve been to a few big gigs, and also to Black Stone Cherry at The Islington Assembly Hall, this def the best gig by far.
  22. Sounds great @JPJ
  23. Stephen bought a lead from me, swift payment and good comms throughout, including advising me of receipt, something I always appreciate, a good transaction all round.
  24. Yeah I remember queuing up at HMV for my Sex Pistols ticket in ‘96. When I bought it I was like a dog with two of the proverbials.
  25. Chrome, I found that when I “stealthed” a bass that on stage the machineheads couldn’t be seen and it put me off as it didn’t look right.
