Playing gigs sitting down. Pop/funk covers band. Acceptable?
Lozz196 replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
It happened -
That`s an impressive stable there @andruca

I must admit I read of these incidents and thank my lucky stars yet again that in the bands/scene I`m in these don`t seem to happen. Possibly the bands and audiences together would protest a little too forcefully (and I really wouldn`t want some of those characters giving me a Paddington stare).

Is there a viable pedalboard poweramp for Bass?
Lozz196 replied to Zim's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about poweramps specifically but there`s the Ashdown Ant, and I`m sure that a Trace Elf or Warwick Gnome could be adapted pretty easily to fit on a board. -
I`m not that familiar with country bassists but a country artist I really like is Morgan Wade, her music is great.

Go for it Greg, opportunity of a lifetime, if you end up hating it then just don’t do it again.

I’ve always thought of the Shape button as the “get out of the way” option, it just seems to put the bass in a place all of its own.

Get them to send you an invoice via PayPal specifically for the item in question, then send payment. Any problems contact PayPal as all above board.

If that happened to a band I was in I would, for every gig the venue had booked, in the week the gigs were due to take place, contact the bands that were scheduled to play and advise them of what had happened.

I’ve only depped for one band. The bassist sent me the set list, I learnt it, got to rehearsal and half the songs I’d learned were no longer being played. On the other half on two songs I was expected to play rhythm guitar (which as I can was no bother) both of which were played a half step down. I did it but never again, last minute dot com don’t live in this body.

Fender have changed the voicing on their pickups over the years, the mid/late 90s ones to me have a thicker more balanced sound than the early 200s which followed, which I find to be toppier and more modern sounding. Plus - and contentious to some - I’ve always found that maple necked basses of the same type & series have a brighter sound anyway.

Bass of choice into a Zoom MS60B for both tuning and compression, then into an Ampeg SCR-DI for eq and drive, into an Ashdown Mini Stack amp/cab.

Given that the purpose of this post is musically related I’ve put it here, if it needs to go to Off Topic fair play. It seems that I’m developing arthritis in the knuckle on my left thumb. Ok, nothing I can do about that however my playing style has pretty much always been heavy pick & hit hard, picked up equally by being both a punk player and starting out (like many of us I dare say) with an amp not powerful enough so digging in to get the volume. So the purpose of the post, well I don’t want this to develop in my picking hand so am dropping to lighter picks and lighter playing. Who knows if it’s already lurking or not, but I’m going to make the changes in the hope of keeping it at bay for as long as possible. Fortunately the thumb issue isn’t too bad as it doesn’t really affect the way I play too much. So another one of those getting older/making changes things, much like the realisation that ear-plugs are def worth plumping for. For us musicians if our hands & ears don’t work, well not a good place to be.

Saw Slash with Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators last night, at Wembley Arena, Really good gig, great sound imo, without cacophonous bass drum which is always a plus for me. At time lead vocals could have been a bit higher maybe but you could still hear them, if not fully understand them. The whole band played as tight as the proverbial, and Slash is just a monster on lead guitar.

Another Ashdown RM500 EVOII recommendation here. Though also happy to recommend the Ampeg PF500 for the sound (having had two, one which was great, the other which didn’t last a rehearsal I’m not keen on their reliability).

So sorry to hear this Gasman

Must admit I`ve never really been one for asking studio people what they think of the material, if they offer an opinion or suggestion then great but otherwise I just acknowledge that they must listen to so much that that it`s probably seldom they hear something they really like. That said I do like to receive input on arrangements/playing etc, on our current album which is due for release in June the producer suggested a few things on bass which I did and they certainly add to the tracks, never too old to learn.

I have one of his on its way to me at present.

Makes me very envious of those able to cart such gear around, would love one of these but sadly reading about them is at the top end of my limits now.

DEF good for metal!

What exactly did You did after Your last gig ?
Lozz196 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Packed up my gear and removed it from the stage so that the next band could get set up, took said gear to the green room, hung around to see the first half of the main bands set then set off home. -
Didn’t Big Country use those back in the 80s…….

I know I’m a heathen and that the punk police will give me a kicking in the cells for this but I’m afraid I prefer Guns N Roses version of Down on The Farm to the original by The UK Subs.

As above White Squier CV Mustang, get a custom made pink scratchplate (earlpilanz from EBay perhaps).
