I don’t seem to get nervous, though I do get rather impatient to get on and play, and always make sure I take a pee before going on (so I don’t want to go when on stage). Maybe these are symptoms of pre-gig nerves, who knows.

I would think so as one fitted straight onto the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz that I bought new recently.

Played at the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool. Our biggest audience to date, not sure how many but the room holds 2500ish and there wasn’t much free space. Played well, sold a load of our new album which we released today, got loads of good comments/feedback. Think the grins say it all.

All done, went rather well hence the silly grins

I read all of this and realise the fortune of playing in a 3-piece band. Sure on some gigs it’s been cramped - when the “stars” wont move their backline so you have to set yours up wherever it will go (and it’s never the top bands that do this, only the nearly-made-its, who think they’re bigger than they really are, but where all that is actually big about them is their ego) - but in general being in a 3-piece makes it much easier.

I’ve been on a quest to find a Jazz bass that I really gel with for years. Had US Standards/Deluxe, Mex Standard/Deluxe, all ok but nothing that wowed. Finally found it in a Squier Vintage Modified 77, just has the feel and playability I’ve been looking for, at a sixth of the (new) price of some of the others.

Yeah, everyone’s hearing works in different ways, our singer can’t stand cymbals, they really overload his ears.

I’ve tried flats many times and just can’t get them to work for me, but then I play punk and rock so in general not the right tools for the job. The only time they fitted well for me was in a band where we had 2 basses, I played the lower register with clean flats, Motown type lines, the other bass was higher register with driven rounds, like New Order. Worked well and if I ever play Motown or similar I’ll head back to flats as for me that style of music lends itself to the thud of flats.

Yes, my 2015 black/maple. I’ve recorded our last 3 albums on it, did my first European tour with it, and played 2015 - 2018 Rebellion Festivals with it. I now only use it for playing at home/recording as don’t want to risk damaging it due to the sentimental value. My other two US Precisions are of the same 2012 - 2016 Series so am always gigging similar instruments.

I currently have: Fender US Standard Precision x 3 Fender MIM Player Precision Vintage Tony Butler V4 Precision Squier Vintage Modified 77 Jazz More than I need but each has a specific use which is how I justify having them.

I’ve just reacquired two Ashdown RM210s that I sold a while back. I’ve had to acknowledge that my ABM cabs, no matter how much I love them are just that bit too much for me now - I hurt my back/shoulder a couple of weeks back carrying the 410 down my stairs. Won’t look as impressive as a 410 & 210 stack but it’s not that often I use my own cab(s) anyway, think only twice this year so far.

I’ve been so tempted to get one of these for gigs where we fly, just to make things that little bit easier.

Nothing weird with that, the MIJ instruments are quality.

I worked with a guitarist like that, he had this Strat that was literally like an ice-pick to the ears, must have been an eq thing as it was either torture or inaudible.

Yep, bassist for The Cockney Rejects uses a Darkglass amp, sounds great but nothing like the sound that Darkglass are more famed for.

Yes the ABM gear is heavy but their RM range is much easier to cart about and sounds good as well. I’ve just re-acquired two of the RM210s as I’ve had to admit to myself that my ABM410 & 210 are now a bit too much for me.

As above, the biggest and best punk festival, who’s going/playing, we’re (Knock Off) on Club Casbah on Fri 2:20.

Having been to Ashdown and spoken with them about all kinds of aspects of gear etc I’d be surprised if anyone is able to offer greater support so if MarkBass have then we’ll done to them.

Great necks on MIJ Precisions, found them to feel slimmer than US ones.
