  1. I envy you, I’m far too OCD to be able to do that.
  2. The main downside to mixing cabs is that once you have a sound with both cabs you`re happy with you`ll never get that sound with just one of them, whereas have two of the same cab, both for gigs, one for rehearsals, makes life easy.
  3. It’s been basses and amps/cabs for me. For years I was trying to find the right Precision and Jazz, Precision was easier to find, only sorted the Jazz recently. And amps/cabs, well I was constantly changing them until I played through a few provided Ashdown rigs, at that point I knew which brand of amp & cab I was going to be happy with.
  4. I have, I used one at Ashdown HQ and thought it sounded great.
  5. The initial batches were quite poor apparently, a guy I know worked for Marshall and they literally had to redo all of them - sometimes getting things assembled overseas isn’t the best way. After that they were fine, I never had any problems with any of my MB range.
  6. Ashdown RM combos can be within budget, especially 2nd hand. The RM gear is light and has a great sound, worth checking out to see if it fits the bill.
  7. Very envious, Mick Mars being my fave guitarist.
  8. Have a good ‘un, I remember the first festival we did, it really was something else. Enjoy the whole day and make sure you stay hydrated, sounds very un Rock n roll but keeping hydrated will keep nerves at bay and the performance will be much easier, especially in the heat you’ve mentioned.
  9. My first bass was one of these, someone buy it please before I get all nostalgic.
  10. Oh man, I had one of these as my first ‘proper’ bass. Seriously good basses these, would love this but funds won’t allow.
  11. I’ve had both, the only downside to the pedal is that engaging the AGS comes with a huge volume increase, so it can’t be used mid-song to add in some gain. Other than that both are great, depends on your needs really but having the pedal means you can get your sound from it then be able to plug it into any other set up and always have your sound. But if you’re always going to be using your own rig then that’s not a factor to bother with. Re the amp, well depending on how loud your band is a consideration as to get very loud the amp has to be run with gain/drive.
  12. And very luckily I now have a pair of RM210s, in fact the very same ones I moved on, thanks to our own @bassix seeing this thread and contacting me. Cheers Liam!
  13. Possible different sound so you’ll always have to use both cabs to get your sound rather than just being able to use the combo for rehearsals & smaller gigs?
  14. I think you need one of these Rog, be a great look in TCs.
  15. Good point, the current range are all light aside from the 610, the rest all very easy to manage, even the 410 which has the inbuilt handles, think it’s around 50lbs or so.
  16. To my ears they seem sharper, greater clarity and more responsive. They do also seem to be voiced with a fair bit of low-end so on big stages you’re not left with a thin weedy sound.
  17. The ABM cabs - especially the EVO IVs - are superb cabs. I have the 410 & 210 and they really do perform well. Yes a bit heavy but great cabs. RM cabs - very light, great sound, I’m looking at getting a couple of the 210s (again) as the weight and portability make sense to my aging frame.
  18. I never liked the look of Markbass amps but that didn’t stop me using them for a good few years as I liked the sound.
  19. Apparently dates have much higher potassium levels than bananas so worth a try - a helpful tip from Djokovic at Wimbledon last week. Additionally a pack of ready salted crisps every day has done wonders for the cramp in my calves that I used to get.
  20. I was once sacked for not having the right look and direction that the band wanted. It actually boiled down to the fact that I wasn’t willing to hand over £6000 to help set up a rehearsal studio. The band in question got their studio, haven’t ever gigged and never released any material. Bovvered?????
  21. I’ve found that I’ve been gigging my RM more and more recently. As well as the convenience it just sounds so good and has bags of power as well. Ok I use a preamp pedal for my eq/FOH sound but I still need to adjust eq for stage/whatever cab I’m going through and the RM just seems to have all the eq settings in the right place, makes it a doddle.
  22. You can get an Ashdown RM-500 within that budget, worth checking out. I have one as my practice & backup amp and it’s a very good, powerful amp, with a great sound and very flexible eq. Probably the fullest sounding small Class D amp that I’ve used, and I’ve had many (Aguilar, Markbass, Ampeg, GK, TC Electronic). They were all good but the RM just had a depth to the sound that I found the others didn’t.
