Likewise, first time where everything has been right, only took me til I was 48 to reach this point.

I always recommend the Fender Custom Shop 62, however a slightly cheaper option is the Seymour Duncan Steve Harris which sounds very similar, only slightly hotter so breaks up quicker. And the amount of love the EMG GZR (Geezer Butler) gets would indicate it`s a serious contender.

Slap Happy Chappy? No, Cos I'm Crappy :(

A great example of slap-bass, can’t think how much the song would change if played without those slapped parts. -
A mate of mine used to sell on evilbay but stopped due to such types. For example he would advertise a red 2 litre kettle. An enquiry would come in asking how many litres the kettle would hold. His response was to send the ad to the enquirer but with the font in very large type, and add that he’d made the ad easier for them to read. After a while, when this didn’t yield the results wanted he just used to reply to them stating he refused to sell to them on the basis that they were too stoopid to enter into a business transaction with.

Well I’m going to try my Player Precision and if that goes ok I’ll look to get my US ones trimmed to the same dimensions.

Reading your first post of today @oZZma, the thing that I notice is you seem fairly down on yourself. Having had bouts of depression myself, and recently having had some therapy, negative thoughts in general seem to be more final and definite in their conclusion. Without going into a load of therapy type spiel revisit your songs when you’re in a lighter mood and I’m sure you’ll view them in a different way. Remember, when you wrote them you had the highs associated with the creation, of piecing them all together, of the overall achievement. Now you have the familiarity of them which understandably doesn’t have the same spark. Not everyone can write songs, the fact that you can and have done is something to hold onto. And if one or two can do with some further work, well nothing says a song in its first format needs to stay that way.

Yeah, just looked at their site/sent an enquiry over. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thanks Stevie, that’s something I’ll look into. I was thinking that the sensible move would be to move two of the US ones on and buy another Player to have two gigging Players but of course, a reshape could enable me to keep the US ones.

A combination of Red Bull, Relentless and Monster will be of help in this, methinks.

Good on you, the advice given was poor to say the least. Yes the sellers could have done some research but I’m sure that’s what they thought they were getting from that auctioneer.

Yep, I had one and in my old band we did a live radio show where everything had to be acoustic. Whilst it couldn’t be determined what I was playing the effect it had on the sound was it made the guitar sound bigger/thicker. So if the actual playing needs to cut through agree, get a small amp and the Kingman is a good call.

So, I absolutely love my 2012-16 US Precisions (some of you might even be aware of this, lol). But since last year my left wrist (fretting hand) has started to ache/hurt a bit. I’ve put it down to the gym but never actually come out of there thinking I’ve overdone it. And when I’ve had periods without gigs/rehearsals but still going to the gym the wrist hasn’t been so painful. Moving on, Ive just bought a Mex Player Precision, bought it as a bass to do flying gigs with in case of loss/damage to a US one which is no longer made, so difficult to replace. And I love it, even with my wrist being sore at the moment I’m able to play it without feeling any pain/twinges at all, whereas if I pick up my US ones it pretty much hurts straightaway at the moment. Should add that the necks on the US ones are much chunkier than that on the Player. Do I just accept that the instruments that I loved now just aren’t for me anymore, and move a couple on (one I’ll keep no matter what, will use for recording plus too much sentimental stuff on that one to let it go)? Or do I try and persevere. I should add I’m not a busy riffing player so technique not a major factor. And I play in a skinhead punk band so heightening my strap is just not an option. Any thoughts welcomed, especially if anyone has been through something similar.

As has been said there are the good promoters, those who book the bands, arrange gear shares, provide a rider, arrange sound checks, arrange event finish times based on local public transport, advise of arrival times/parking, promote the event locally and online, and run the event. Then there are the ones that book the bands and do nothing else. To me they are bookers, as that’s all they do, however they’re usually more full of self importance than either the above or the bands.

Great bass lines you’ve forgotten about.

I’ve just got a new Fender Player Precision and for some reason it just felt right to play Psycho Killer by Talking Heads in it, a bassline I’ve not played for ages. -

I can play one song on slap, This is Not a Love Song by Public Image Ltd. Oh, and a couple of bits of a few Wham songs for some reason which I’m yet to understand. -
Where did we all start this journey from?
Lozz196 replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
My first real gigging set up was a Yamaha BB1100s bass and a Laney Linebacker 1x15 combo, think it was 150 Watts. Before that it was cheapo copies of Ricks/P basses etc but never gigged with any of them. -
Root notes, write down the structure of each song with the notes for each passage (intro, verse, chorus, solo, outro etc) and include what type of ending, dead stop or rock n roll

I had a couple of ash Precisions, to me the top end was sharper and the lower mids were less ‘chunky’ for want of a better word. One in particular was very aggressive sounding, not the warmth expected of a Precision. I named it Ian Paisley as that was what it reminded me of.

Shakespeare's Sister on Graham Norton?
Lozz196 replied to lowregisterhead's topic in General Discussion
I didn’t think it was that bad, sure the high pitched stuff was a bit too present in the mix for me, but I thought it was much like the recording, just less well mixed/balanced. -
OK, so I`m weak and have no restraint - but, I do have a nice Fender Player Precision in buttercream/maple, which I`d far rather have. First impressions are it`s very good quality, not got my regular strings on it yet so can`t comment too much on sound but it does seem less harsh/in your face than previous MIM Precisions that I`ve had. Good tight neck pocket, no sharp edges on the frets. The scratchplate will be changed for a black one, and as this is going to be my air-travel bass I`ll swap the nut for a Graphtec one to aid better tuning but other than that will probably leave everything else as stock, maybe swap the bridge baseplate with a grooved one, but only cos I already have said item. As per my post above the slimmer neck profile is a fair bit easier to play, which is good cos again my left wrist has been aching a bit recently, maybe overdone it at the gym and strained something, so having a bass that`s easier to play in the arsenal is always a bonus. Plus that buttercream, well...………………...

The MXR Micro Amp, or Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster (if the latter is still available) would be my choice for this.

Yep, simply accept that membership of Basschat comes with an added bonus gift of GAS for Life.

From what I’ve read on here there’s a mod that can be done which really increases the eq flexibility. Why not contact Ashdown and get this sorted?
