OK, so I`m weak and have no restraint - but, I do have a nice Fender Player Precision in buttercream/maple, which I`d far rather have. First impressions are it`s very good quality, not got my regular strings on it yet so can`t comment too much on sound but it does seem less harsh/in your face than previous MIM Precisions that I`ve had. Good tight neck pocket, no sharp edges on the frets. The scratchplate will be changed for a black one, and as this is going to be my air-travel bass I`ll swap the nut for a Graphtec one to aid better tuning but other than that will probably leave everything else as stock, maybe swap the bridge baseplate with a grooved one, but only cos I already have said item. As per my post above the slimmer neck profile is a fair bit easier to play, which is good cos again my left wrist has been aching a bit recently, maybe overdone it at the gym and strained something, so having a bass that`s easier to play in the arsenal is always a bonus. Plus that buttercream, well...………………...

The MXR Micro Amp, or Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster (if the latter is still available) would be my choice for this.

From what I’ve read on here there’s a mod that can be done which really increases the eq flexibility. Why not contact Ashdown and get this sorted?

My boss saw them in Cambridge last night and said they were great.

Darn, great venue, I remember when we played there we were delighted to have tea and coffee in our dressing room. Didnt have a kettle though, had to negotiate with the band in the next room that did have, but who were missing tea/coffee.

We’re on at the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool again this year. 200 plus punk/Oi bands over the first weekend of August, it’s an amazing festival, indoors so no having to trudge through rivers of mud or cope with English skin in sunlight syndrome (also known as sunburn). No idea which stage yet, but that’s all part of the build up.

In general I prefer the bigger Class A/B/valve/hybrid amps but on a recent tour I used my Class D Ashdown RM500 and it was more than enough. It was into an Ampeg SVT410HLF and sounded amazing. At no point did I think I was using an amp that was sub-standard, though I do still prefer my ABM600.

Yes, recently let a bass go that I wasn’t using, and wouldn’t use in my band. I still regret it even though it was the right decision to make.

Precision methinks, solid lows, powerful mid range mainly in the low mids, thick neck profile, no harsh top end, this all spells Precision to me.

Agree Mick, the internet was his demise, his prices weren`t bad, but you could do better online. Instruments weren`t too bad, it was stuff like strings where he was really under cut. The other local-ish shop to me is CODA in Stevenage, and they`ve been there for years. Admittedly I`ve not been over there for a while but they were always incredibly good to deal with, very knowledgeable and never pushy in trying to get a sale.

Nice bass, I recently sold one in that colour scheme, didn’t want to but I didn’t (and wasn’t going to) use it in my band. Am still regretting letting it go even though it was the sensible thing to do.

I recently sold a Precision that I really didn’t want to, but I wasn’t using it in my band and I’ve come round to the viewpoint that I’ll only have gear I’ll use with the band. Must admit I was gutted when I gave it a last play, it was a great bass.

I never really liked The Cure that much, but then someone gave me a ticket to see them live and I was amazed, opinion def changed. The drabness that they seemed to act out on Top of The Pops etc was replaced with a really tight, melodic and energetic performance. They’re still not a fave of mine but I’d say to anyone who hasn’t seen them live, unless you really hate their music reserve opinion until you have, they’re much better live than I’d expected.

I had similar experiences when using Ashdown gear as provided/shared rigs, simply loved the power and weight to the sound. So I ditched my lightweight expensive gear in favour of an Ashdown ABM setup and have stayed with it for longer than any other setup I’ve had, since joining Basschat.

Our old producer described me as a typical Precision player, so I suppose it has. I was delighted to hear him say that btw.

We rehearse every week, irrespective of gigs, writing new material etc. For one we just love the band so it’s not a chore, we enjoy it, but secondly it gives us that tightness to our performance that many praise us on. And lastly, purely from a personal point, as a non-natural singer, I need to be rehearsing my vocals with the band every week, I shudder at the thought of what would come out if I didn’t. And with our music it’s not possibly to rehearse said (poor) vox at home, they’re too loud for that.

Every time I read these posts I’m reminded of bands gone by, and thank my good fortune for the band I’m currently in.

Happened to me too, was given a set list to learn for a dep gig, got to the first rehearsal, at least half of the songs I’d been given were no longer current. And it hadn’t been mentioned that I was expected to play guitar on s couple of songs as well. There and then my decision on depping was changed for evermore.

I’d say as above, though maybe still take the 115 and stack it all so for one the 410 is higher up so you hear better, and secondly, well, stackmungus, it will look great 😁

If one comes along get the 600 EVO IV. I’ve played through and owned a good few Ashdown amps, all have been great but the 600 for me tops them all. It has more eq options and can obtain a much sharper sound as a result, plus that weight to the sound that we all love. In the past I’ve changed amps pretty much every few months, I’ve had my 600 for over 2 years and never thought of moving it on. They turn up at around the £400 mark and worth every penny imo. Re reliability, well Ashdown are UK based and apparently can fix all ABMs at their HQ. They’re a good company to deal with and their gear is known for its reliability and durability on the road.
