  1. I’m not sure it’s mythical at all, the ABMs are chock-full of heft.
  2. There are many bands with only one original member left, that’s fine with me, but once there are no original members - well some could say it’s then become a tribute band. That said in some cases the non-original band members have been in the band longer than the originals, so that puts a different light in it again. Too confusing all this.
  3. Just watching the PSBs on BBC Red Button. Yes not the most interesting show to watch but think they’ve represented their studio work very well on this live performance. Similar to @Ed_S although I’m predominantly into heavier music I’ve always quite liked PSBs.
  4. Structure - we’ve got bookings solidly until May next year, with others sporadically after that, but that’s being added to all the time. If anything we try to keep some time free for when the opportunity for tours/overseas come in.
  5. For me that’s a rather polite well balanced tone, and I once had a Norstrand NP4 in a Precision that would do that tone rather well.
  6. 3 for me. Not fussed about dings/wear etc, and as long as the truss rod is confirmed as fully operational I’m happy.
  7. I’ve had my ABM600 EVO IV for nearly three years now, and not a single problem. 3hr rehearsals, day-long recording sessions, plus virtually weekly gigs, connected to all kinds of provided cabs as well as my own EVO IV 410 & 210. For me it’s been a great amp, on bigger stages it retains a depth to the sound that smaller amps seem to lose, but similarly on smaller stages doesn’t overpower them. It also doesn’t lose anything when playing at lower volumes, not an amp that needs to be pushed to sound good.
  8. Any of the generic ones in ebay should fit, but I always buy actual Fender ones - look on Thomann or Stringsdirect, they’re more expensive but they are better quality.
  9. I saw them last year at Rebellion and did think that they played well. However I think many in the audience were concentrating with their eyes rather than their ears. Shame really, I think they’re much better than titilation but given their lack of clothing they’ll always attract a crowd wanting an eyeful.
  10. Yep, Fender Rumble, Ashdown RM, Ampeg PF will all get there nicely. For a few more quids add in Aguilar Tonehammer and SL cabs.
  11. I’ve been to see my old band a few times. I left as I was no longer enjoying it and didn’t want to hang around and be the one who drags it all down. Was great seeing them and both hearing the old songs I played on, and the newer ones showing their new direction.
  12. Yeah we were chatting about that, I used his other MF, the white one.
  13. Played last night. Checked the bass I was taking beforehand as I always do. Didn’t take a backup for a variety of reasons - new car so not yet sure how much fits in it (was picking up guitarist with his gear too) and the usual “I’ve never needed a backup” lazyman theory. Gig to the sound check, plugged in, nothing. After some help from the sound guy it turned out to be the input jack, the material was so weak that it had just given up, bending it into position was fine, put the hack plug in it and it bent it out of position with no contact. Luckily the headline bands bassist allowed both support bands to use their backup bass (insult to injury here, I was meant to be loaning my bass to the first band on who had come over from Germany). So to anyone who doesn’t need a backup, in my 30 plus years of gigging I never have until last night. Lesson learned, always take a backup bass, doh!
  14. So right. When we started out the drummer was in another band. We got a great offer to support a well known band, playing early. But he had a gig with his covers band the same evening. Now we would have been on at 7:30 - 8, his covers band would have started at 9:30. It was a 30min drive between venues. But the other band refused to set everything up, saying they all needed to be there for that, so we didn’t get to do the gig. Now there is the argument that he was in the covers band long before we formed, so in reality it was us diluting the covers band, and not long after he did leave as he couldn’t stay in 2 regular gigging bands full time.
  15. You must have been on the spinach to lift a Peavey 410 on your own 😁
  16. Looks great with the Gotoh
  17. We’re all pretty much as reliable was each other, no issues with any of us (aside from being grumpy middle aged men of course).
  18. Without quoting the whole post I think the sleeve artwork is great and should encourage sales nicely.
  19. Agree, if trying to establish yourself do exactly that to the biggest audiences possible. Take the hit financially for a while, once the name is out there the bigger fees and greater merch sales come in. It’s how we’ve worked from the start and we’ve progressed it fairly well.
  20. I keep my Ashdown RM500 in a Wenger wheeled laptop case. It has enough room for the amp, power lead, 2 x speaker leads, 2 pedals, 2 x instrument leads and wireless kit. It’s a sturdy bit of kit with a fairly small footprint so easy in the car/on stage etc.
  21. One thing I’d probably look at is playing with some overdrive and increased mids during the solos in a covers band. Nothing Lemmyish, just go from clean to that driven if digging in setting, plus upping mids a notch, not becoming a rhythm guitar exactly but stepping into that sort of area. Maybe even have a small combo set like that to kick in for solos - that way as well as keeping the clean low end but also adding drive plus mids it would be adding another speaker into the mix, further padding out the sound.
  22. I tend to add in notes when the guitar solos, not so much runs, example if the passage is in B I’ll drop down to an A or an F# every now and then, as if the solo is over a verse I don’t really like playing anything different to the regular verses but don’t like the solos to be too sparse.
  23. I think the only time it can be a problem is if one band wants to be gigging every weekend. At that point unless the other band only wants to gig mid-week how can It work.
  24. I think you’re like me, I just love the sound of Ampeg cabs that have 10 inch drivers in them. I’ve used a variety of them, with a lot of different amp heads and they’ve always sounded great, just a shame I can’t lift any of them.
  25. It depends on budget of course, as a good 210 or 112 such as Barefaced should be plenty in the band set up described. If the pocket doesn’t extend that far then I’d look at a 410 as the greater number of speakers would help given that in all likelihood it wouldn’t be such a good quality cab.
