I’d say so, yes, but look at it as an achievement rather than negatively 😁

For me it was The Sex Pistols, as an 11 year old their sound was like something I`d not heard before, at that point I knew what type of music I wanted to make when I got older, and that`s what I did once I turned 15 and got a bass. Started a band, playing punk songs, wearing DMs and Fred Perrys. And at 53 not a lot has changed, pretty much zero development. Which is nice.

I’m pretty sure that @stewblacks post is spot on to the reasons why I’ve never bought an SVT as am sure I’d find most amps afterwards, well not quite so good, shall we say. Ive used them in the past at gigs and really like how solid and big the sound is. The only other amps that have slammed like that have been Ashdown ABMs, so I went that route - well I can lift those, after all.

I Don't Like Mondays: Geldof fesses up, Fingers vindicated

Totally agree, seemed odd to me that people who support a music that essentially was an “up yours” to everyone would be so sensitive at having the pee taken out of them. -
That’s an era I would like to have been around in. I was 11 when punk came in, but would have loved to have been able to be in the pubs watching those bands, especially Dr Feelgood.

I think, to answer the original question asked, punk has had a lasting influence. In many different bands you can hear punk influences - and also via those trace them back to original 50s rock n roll imo. There are punk songs now used in adverts, McDonalds has similar artwork styles to that of what came out of punk. Would David Beckham have had a good few of his haircuts and outfits if not for punk. I’m not saying it changed the world, just that you can see its influences today, 40 plus years on.

I already loved music and knew I wanted to be a musician, punk gave me my direction.

Irrespective of the so-called politics and shock factor, listen to some of the early punk bands, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Blondie. The Jam etc, and you simply have great 3 minute pop songs. Punk is still around today, it`s a nice little scene, with gigs going on all over the place, and loads of new great bands coming through. Yes there are the shouty brigade, but there`s much more than just that. Regrettably it seems punk is more associated with studded leather jackets and mohawks with shouted lyrics than how it started.

Aside from my punk sensibilities, with anything aside from 4 strings being the spawn of Satan, this is why I’ve never gone down the 5 string route. I just don’t need one for the music I play. I could actually get away with a 3 string if honest, and at a push maybe a 2!

I walked out but that’s coz I thought they were pony. Was quite disappointed as, even with his having to be the big man and showing everyone he was boss, I’d been quite looking forward to seeing them. -

Strangely this doesn’t surprise me at all, as I’d always suspected that BG was far less admirable than he’d like us to believe. -
From the description guy no 2 - the recording isn`t going to lie, sounds like he fitted very well. Maybe his hard-hitting made everyones attack on their instruments that little bit sharper/harder, hence the nice balanced sound. Plus his experience is a big factor.

Vintage V4 Tony Butler has a real chunker of a neck. From what I understand the regular V4s have slimmer necks though.

I`ve just managed to score another v2 of this pedal so am offloading my v1 that I had as a backup, it`s up on here for £140 inc delivery in UK should anyone be interested, seeing as I`ve extolled its virtues so much in this thread.

ITEM NOW SOLD One Tech21 Para Driver v1 preamp/DI pedal. Recently scored a second v2 of this pedal, so offloading my original v1 backup. In good condition, no fancy Tech21 tin though I`m afraid. The Para Driver is imo one of Tech21s best pedals, due to its sweepable mids - choose between 170Hz & 3.3kHz and boost/cut to shape your sound. Other controls are Level/Treble/Bass/Drive/Blend. The Drive is great, can be set to a hint of "unclean" for a better word, natural tube sounding drive when you dig in, or full on distortion-filth. Set your sound, then when gigging take this with you, no matter what amp you use FOH gets your sound as you intended it. £140 gets this to your door within the UK. No trades thanks.

Now Sold A rather nice US Standard Fender Precision from 2016 up for grabs. Weight is 4.05kg/8lbs9oz. Custom Shop Pickups, graphite strengthening rods to aid neck stability, Fender lightweight tuners, black Fender pickguard, all standard aside from the strap-locks - not locking ones, just different - and the bridge, which has graphite saddles to aid tuning stability. The bass has string-through option this after-market bridge doesn`t prevent that. Comes with Hiscox case with key, and case candy inc truss-rod adjuster and allen key for after-market bridge. A previous owner has had ashtray covers on it, and a non-Fender pickguard too, so there are some extra holes on this bass, only the ones for the ashtray over the bridge are visible, as shown in pic 3. Additionally as per the last pic there is a slight gap on the neck-pocket. Pictured with it is a 1mm plectrum which can`t fit in the gap, so it`s not like its mahoosive or anything. No trades thanks. For anyone wanting to try it out am in Hemel Hempstead (J8 on the M1).

When do flaws/fades/wear/chips in a finish become mojo
Lozz196 replied to Cuzzie's topic in Bass Guitars
For me if there are a few knocks it’s mojo, probably more likely to entice me to buy, but where it looks like it’s been tied to the back of the pickup truck and dragged around town that’s me bailing out. Both of my gigging basses have a few knocks, down to the wood. This was def a feature in me buying them. -
Nail/head. Those guitar-folk just can’t handle being Number Two. It also seems to really get their goats that no matter how much super gear they buy the singer strolls in carrying nothing (where the guitarist has all but moved house with the amount of gear they have) and all the attention is on said singer. The smart ones learn to sing lead vocals imo, to stop this bane of their lives.

Anyone Help with colour of this P Bass
Lozz196 replied to Slappindabass's topic in General Discussion
Looks a similar colour to Nate Mendel of Foo Fighters early 70s Precision, which is Candy Apple Red. -
In general I’d say so, we only seem to argue amongst ourselves in Off Topic

I know exactly what you mean, for me a 410 is the bass cab, something about multiple speakers all going together that just makes a much nicer sound - irrespective of volume I should add.
-
Not at all. Although I`ve found some treasures along the way - Vintage V4 Precision/Korean Squier Precision - and realised that in amplification I`m happier with less expensive (but much better sounding imo) Ashdown ABMs, with basses my preference is for the US Standard Fender Precision. Ok not super expensive, but for me the 2012-16 Series are the best I`ve ever played, much better than any Mexican/Japanese/other US that I`ve had. So I have 3 - one for home use and recording, the other 2 for gigging. I could easily gig with MIM Fenders or Squiers - indeed I have - but to me I want to play the best instrument for me, so I do.

2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')
Lozz196 replied to Sibob's topic in General Discussion
I do, but my one I use is V2 and the original backup is V1, I scored another V2 to keep OC/DC happy. -
I can’t remember the exact ratings but the ohmage of the Barefaced 410 and 210 are worked so that if paired each gets about the same amount of power per driver, so not pushing one cab too much. He’s a clever chap is Alex, makes his gear from a users point of view rather than a manufacturers.
