I lasted til Sun 20th, when I bought a backup Para Driver pedal. Ooooops.......

The Barefaced are warm/vintage sounding, if looking for hi-fi sounds or crystal clear, sharp highs prob not the best cabs to get, but they really nail a more traditional bass sound, classic rock, Motown, ideal for those.

The Markbass 610, if you can find one, is a good cab. Really light, doesn’t seem to have the top-end roll-off that some of their cabs do. Like Jack above I had the Barefaced 410 & 210 for a while. Ultimately they weren’t the right cabs for me but that’s not knocking them, in terms of portability difficult to beat and easy to use the 410 for rehearsals and regular gigs, drag out the 210 for the big stuff. Additionally the amount of sound that comes from them is immense, I just needed sharp top end and like their name suggests they are a warmer more vintage sound.

You may be nearer the truth than my offering above 😁

A 64lb 4x12, that would be tempting aside from the fact they’ll probably be a gazillion pounds.

These ones are run quite well, Blue. If you “win” on the day you play the introducing stage, next year you play the main stage. Yes all the other bands are the named acts but it’s nice that lesser known bands get the opportunity to play the main stages. Those stages are massive and you get full sound check until you’re happy, rather than a 15min run through. Ok you’re on first on the main stage but we still must have had 1200/1300 people in for us, was quite chuffed with that.

The themes to The Professionals and The New Avengers were written by Laurie Johnson. Both seemed to have good bass presence so i reckon he had to have tinkered on the bass at some point to have it that far up in the mix.

I think if I had 3 grand hanging around that was fully disposable income that I could spend on a bass I’d buy a second hand 2012-15 US Fender Jazz, possibly a Rickenbacker and possibly a Gibson Thunderbird. I’m sure I’d have to search to get all three for three grand but I can’t think of any one bass that I’d want to spend a whole 3Gs on.

Fully agree, those 3 are great theme tunes - just go duh duh-duh to anyone of a certain age and they know it’s The Professionals. Even seeing a Ford Capri makes me hum the theme tune with a daft smile on my face.

Not used one but we played with a band whose bassist had a Taurus rig and it sounded great. Cabs were really lightweight as well.

Yes, back off the treble and mids and it`s got a nice warmth and spongeyness to the sound. I`ve just bought a second one, was delivered today so was putting it through its paces and that was one of the sounds I ended up with, nice and Ampeg-like I thought.

Not heard these ones but my fave which I always recommend are the Fender Custom Shop 62s (not the regular Fender 62s). Amazing pickups.

Yep, a bit like rhythm guitar really, filling out the sound and making sure the backside of the song doesn’t fall out on lead guitar solos. Having trebly/driven sound really helps this.

Yep I’ve one pretty much like that Ebay one. I rarely use it but it’s one of those things that handy to keep in case it’s needed.

You’ve played the Squier and liked it, rather than chance the Gretsch I’d go with the certainty of the Squier.

We also used to do that in our old punk covers band and similarly it always went down well. We were called The Daves so obviously changed one line to incorporate The Davey Boys.

A bass for bassists who want to be recognised as guitarists 😁 Seriously though, I reckon that LPJ looks really nice.

That’s the way we approached it, it was a gig, same as any other, albeit with a great stage to play on and a very big audience.

I had an Orange Terror paired - very briefly - with a 210AV cab and it sounded really nice. My only reservation would be make sure you use your ears carefully as the power of the OTB is pretty huge, if not used with care you may damage the cabs.

Vintage are a real hidden gem amongst the many brands out there, imo. I have a Tony Butler V4 and have the same opinion, there’s not a grands worth of difference between that and my US Fenders in terms of quality.

I’m not too good with technical stuff, how would I get the signal to my amp doing this as can only see one “out” on the pedal?

No DI, I’ll stick with my Para Driver. It’s too much of a lottery on the shared/provided rigs scene to hope that the sound guys have a DI box -and I’m not buying one to carry around as a just in case. Shame, would have liked to try it but it’s not like I’m missing anything with my Para Driver, best pedal I’ve ever had.
