I’ve two white/maple Precisions and two black/maple Precisions (until one sells that is).

Get yourself along to some punk gigs then - they’re happening all over the country, and most of the bands are made up of people in their 40s/50s/60s. Start with local stuff and check the bands online especially when you see the same bassist in one or two bands - could most likely be standing in with the band waiting on a permanent bassist.

Peavey gear, though a tad unfashionable, is very good, virtually indestructible, sounds great. Only downside is the weight, the older gear is pretty heavy.

What music is your fave style? Find a scene of originals on that circuit, and get known. When we started our originals punk band our expectations weren`t that much at all, Tues night multi-band gigs playing to just the other bands, no money etc. Way different, there`s a good punk scene and we`ve managed to put out 3 albums, played 8 different countries so far (ok, England is one of them), done festivals etc. So find that scene, talk to the bands, keep an eye on them on Facebook, when an opening appears go for it. I`ve had more fun, and achieved more in this band than in all of my others put together.

Jake Burns of Stiff Little Fingers has used the same ESP Tele style guitar since the early 90s, and I believe his backup guitar is the same Yamaha SG that he used in SLF before that.

I must be double-pro then, as I wear two (one on each wrist, two on one wrist would just be eccentric).
-
Given that these are half the weight of the original I`m really tempted to get one and offload my original one.
-
A couple of places have them around that price today - imo it’s a steal, the Rootmaster range is one of the hidden gems in the amp world, though getting a bit more well known recently.

Being nervous is good, it shows you care rather than being blasé and "not bothered". Good luck, hope you get it.

Hmmm, the articulation and preciseness of the Stingray is similar to the Jazz, but to me the `Ray just has a lot more oomph to it. It`s one of those things though, if you loved the `Ray that much I think the answer is already there - and don`t forget it may be that exact `Ray that you love so much. Bite the bullet and snap it up before someone else takes it.

A couple of years ago i lucked out on Xmas Day, an Ashdown ABM600 was reduced to £499 from £699, snapped it up, best amp I’ve ever had, I usuallly sneer at sales ploys like Black Friday etc but that taught me to keep my eyes open - albeit only for things I would be buying anyway.

There were differing tuners, think my black/maple one had these type. Cracking basses, the Korean Squiers.

Newly-discovered love of Trevor Bolder's playing
Lozz196 replied to bassbiscuits's topic in General Discussion
Our old producer worked with Trevor Bolder, apparently he used lighter gauge strings in order to be able to put more bass into the sound, without the boom. Quite interesting I thought. -
Well I suppose it comes down to the type of gigs you do - are you a covers band where once set up the gear stays there, or an originals band where quick changeovers are the order of the day. For me the former gets the ABM vote, the latter gets the M900 vote.

Start off with carefully applying some Servisol Super 10 spray onto the pots, it may clear this up. I think I got mine off Amazon. Ha - pretty much a duplicate post of the above.

They certainly can, I`ve never had a 210/115 set-up that didn`t sound amazingly good. Only downside was always having to take both cabs to get my sound, as neither could do it on its own. That`s pretty much the reason why I always go for the same cabs if possible, the laziness factor.

Give Ashdown a call, they were incredibly helpful when I had a similar query.
-
The only time I`ve had amp failure was luckily at the very end of a gig. We finished, got called for an encore, my amp suddenly didn`t work, so we didn`t do one. Turned out the pre-amp valve had become slightly dislodged. Always wise to have a Sansamp or similar in the bag, just in case.

Have a good `un, and my tip would be make sure you get as much rest as possible, touring is harder work than it sounds, and whilst it`s fun to sightsee/over-indulge, it can take its toll.

Watts manufacturers doings to us - RMS vs Peak - it’s time to take a stand
Lozz196 replied to Cuzzie's topic in Amps and Cabs
This is what was explained to me when I was at Ashdown, they said that they have their volume controls so that they go louder the whole way round, rather than peaking at 3 or 4. -
Watts manufacturers doings to us - RMS vs Peak - it’s time to take a stand
Lozz196 replied to Cuzzie's topic in Amps and Cabs
These posts nail it for me. If an amp is loud enough for my needs, and sounds good in my band then although I think it’s a tad sneaky to label it as something it’s not, well it’s not the label that either I or the audience are going to hear. I’ve had a couple of TC amps and irrespective of their advertised wattage they were plenty loud enough. I didn’t push them mind, so can’t say if the volume was available all round the dial but for the gigs I did with them they were fine little amps. -
Not at all in my experience. I’ve had a shed-load of their gear on my trek to establishing the best gear for my needs and none has been at all problematic. Plus they’re a great company to deal with and UK based with so should there ever be an issue it’s easy to sort.

For rock the Ashdown RM-C210-500 would be a cracker. 18kg, 500 watts (with ext cab, so prob around 300 on its own), 2x10, drive, compression, pre-shape (which is excellent for rock sounds). A good few on here are realising the RM range from Ashdown now, def worth checking out. I have the amp head and it`s a cracker, really powerful and strong sounding.

Depends on size and weight (and value of course) but I`ve had pretty good service from Parcel2go.com, using either UPS or MyHermes. One thing I would say though is if the item is a musical instrument do not use Parcelforce - their terms & conditions list musical instruments as prohibited items, so although you can pay for extra insurance, there is no payout should the item get lost or damaged.

Yes, a mate put me onto the Boss WL20, saw his band play and he went right out into the audience, pretty much to the back of the venue and there were no noticeable issues. Not that I`m ever likely to do that, but to me that just reinforces that I`m even less likely to have any issues when I`m on stage with it.
