  1. 15 songs in a 45 min set for us. Gives space for chat and tuning up.
  2. Not sure about afterwards but The Sex Pistols didn`t go down that well when they toured there - probably due to McLarens great idea of sending them into the Deep South.
  3. Sounds great, with the added bonus of meeting Eva Gardner (if she’s still playing bass for Pink).
  4. Ashdown RM combos are worth checking out, light, powerful, and reasonably priced, plus great customer service from a UK based company. Also worth checking out the separates in the RM range too - even the 410 is only about 50lbs, stick some castors on it and incredibly easy to move about and with the 500 watt head a rig capable for pretty much any venue that doesn`t need backline through FOH.
  5. Very good quality instruments.
  6. Yes I’ve got one, I think - and it’s going back a while - I tried this aspect out, I had to then have the bass control on the PD on full to get some low end back (I only use the eq on the PD) but it was a lot more controlled, so yes works much like the Thumpinator. If using the eq on the amp as well I reckon it would keep things nice and tight and focused.
  7. Yeah, there have to be worse jobs to be in.
  8. Work out the costs and go halves, but then also cover his non alcoholic drinks for the evening?
  9. Generally, as a Precision player, between pickups and bridge.
  10. If a 412 is the preferred option the Marshall VBC412 is a great cab, no longer made but they turn up on here & the bay every so often at about £300 - and they are amazingly good cabs.
  11. I use Insure4Music - never had to claim but they cover all my needs, items at home/gigs/European tours, so pretty good.
  12. If you like the warmth of the TH500 but don’t use too much of its its gain/drive I’d check out the Ashdown RM500. Capable of those nice warm tones, and plenty powerful like the TH.
  13. I use Fender String Retainers on my A strings for this, but even then still need 3 winds on the string to make completely sure.
  14. The nearest I’ve found that has that ‘spongey’ decay to the notes that only valve amps seem to have is the Tech21 VTDI.
  15. Pretty much the same
  16. Just thought, Ash were a 3piece when they started
  17. The Ashdown RM414 is a lightweight 410, stick some castors on it and you have a nice portable, great sounding cab. Plus new they’re very reasonably priced,.
  18. The Police, Green Day, plenty of decent hits in their back catalogues.
  19. In an old rock band I was in we did Born To Be Wild. I hated playing it but the audiences loved it. That was always our decision maker.
  20. On the floor at the base of my mic-stand
  21. Yes, once you’ve unplugged them you have to re-pair them. Apparently it takes an hour for them to go into standby mode so for a between sets break they’ll stay switched on if still plugged in.
  22. I must admit, my earlier post is a tad misleading, I don`t cut any mids I just boost the lows/hi-mids/highs which on a graphic would still look like a smiley face.
  23. I do the mid-scooping but I have a very specific sound, a lot of high end, and a good bit of gain when digging in (which is all the time), think Duff/Lemmy/JJ etc. As we are a 3 piece I need to fill out the sound when the guitar is soloing, but also as the guitar is an overdriven/distorted Les Paul, similarly keep out of the way of durging when chords are played. It’s not my automatic choice for a bass sound, it’s the one that fitted best with the guitar and style of music, as we tried a good few other sounds as well. I’m not one of those players with a sound they take with them, I try to get the best for whatever band I’m in at the time. And given the number of comments I get I think we’ve managed it, which I have to admit is very gratifying. Certainly the only band where anyone’s ever mentioned my bass sound up til now.
  24. Excellent, Henry is a really nice guy - as are the rest of them. Couldn’t believe it the first time we played with them that I was chatting to him, given how much I loved SLF when I was younger. I also think his views on the best album being Nobody’s Heroes is spot on, it had an energy about it that set it apart from the others.
  25. How is this still here? I have one of these and it’s truly the best amp I’ve ever had - I used to switch amps regularly, have had my ABM600 for over 2 years now and never even been tempted to try a different amp since getting it.
