Yeah the 40th edition of Never Mind The Bollocks is on my radar but at nearly £40 I`m a bit reluctant. It is my fave album of all time tho, so maybe I should.

Tools for the job, most of the theatre acts and music shows I`ve seen the bassists have used fivers, whereas on the punk scene a five string bass is rare - if ever - to be seen.

I`ve just bought the re-mastered version of Appetite for Destruction and it`s great. Before the guitars were mainly Slash, whereas now you can really hear the distinction between him and Izzy and it`s a revelation, Izzy does so much and his lines are quite a lot different to what Slash plays. It really makes for good listening, hearing two separate guitar lines fitting so well together.

Un-modded is generally what I look for. I`ve been throught he changing pickups/bridges thing and have realised I prefer my Precisions stock.I`m not that fussed over a bit of wear & tear, as long as it looks like genuine wear and not an instrument that has either not been cared for, or made to look worn.

Sold an amp to Manuel. Swift payment and good comms throughout. Turned out to be cheaper to drive it there than courier it so had a trip to Southampton where the cruise ship he works on had docked, got a nice day out as well as a good transaction, bonus.

Really low tension suggests Thomastiks to me - certainly the flats are so do some research on the rounds.

I`ve been very impressed with Warwick Red Label Steel Rounds. I have a very twangy aggressive sound and these can do it easily. I use 45 - 105 and tension is ok, so dropping a couple of gauges should reduce it further. Plus they`re cheap, and last a long time, I used to go through a set of Rotosounds in 3 weeks/a month, I`m getting 2 - 3 months from the Warwicks.

Three Lions is a great song, great catchy chorus, but always puzzled me as it says 30 years of hurt and Jules Rimet, yet it was the European Tournament it was put out for, where both reference points were for the World Cup. Never liked Vindaloo - well as a song that is, love the curry. World in Motion was good but just didn`t seem like an anthemic football song. Think we need a reform tour of Hoddle & Waddle...................

It is tough, we do mini-tours, 5 days or so and the amount of travelling and lack of sleep - even with employing a driver and booking individual hotel rooms - is hard. We were offered a 10 day "living on a bus" tour but had to admit that in late 40s/early 50s we just can`t do that sort of thing anymore. Shame, would have been a great opportunity but we`re sadly past all that now. Back on track, I think the guy is just clarifying that the position stated is still the case, so he doesn`t waste both parties time.

Good old Fender Precisions with graphite rods in the neck, no bother come hot or cold.

If I were spending money on a collection it would be comprised of: Fender Precision & Jazz, Musicman Stingray, Gibson Thunderbird, Rickenbacker 4001. I`d probably look at a semi-acoustic bass as well, but no idea which.

If you used the Terror with your own bass and own cab and loved it, getting one has to be the answer.

Yeah swap them out, Wilkinson or Tone Riders are cheap enough and sound great.

I`d not heard of this, will have to check it out as Appetite is one of my all time fave albums.

Yeah I can`t remember which Metallica album it was but the snare sound really put me off of it, prob Death Magnetic going by the above.

The Clash, by The Clash - and to be honest most of the early punk albums. In comparison to Never Mind The Bollocks by The Sex Pistols, The Clash sounds really dated/of its time, whereas NMTB could have been produced anytime onwards of 77. Not that I dislike said Clash album, far from it, and in some ways I think the rough production shows where punk really came from, but listening to the production now it sounds like a demo imo. But a bl88dy great demo.

That`s something I`m toying with doing at present. I love the sound of a Jazz bass, but find the necks too easy to scoot around on, I prefer a chunker that I have to work on.

I had a set for a while and for the music I was playing then they were great, that warm rock n roll/Motowny sort of sound.

I think that`s Precisions in general, it`s always amazed me that the pickup is situated in the manner it is. I rarely play on the D or G because of this, as I have a very twangy aggressive sound anyway. Additionally I had Tone Riders in a MIM Precision and didn`t notice any extra thin-ness on these strings. I always raise the D&G pickup higher than the E&A, this seems to deal with it a bit.

I`ve recently started doing the push the string down hard after the saddle thing after reading about it on here - playing for 37 years and only found out about it this year - and it does make the staying in tune and general liveliness of the strings seem better.

And I read that all ABM amps have parts that can be fixed at Ashdown, so not part of the throwaway generation, which is also a plus point in my view.

I thought it was a fairly good film, and followed his book quite well. The main theme through both to me was it just took him years and some pretty rotten life experiences to be comfortable being himself. That`s just the way it is with some people, just not comfortable in their own skin, and sometimes have no idea why.

Led Zep, I like a few songs but feel that I should really like the band and all they`ve done, but much of it just passes me by.
