  1. I watched: The first prog - good, liked it Second prog - a bit pretentious, but still enjoyable Third prog - few songs in, nah. Not into "imagery" on live shows. And agree re widdling guitar, not right in DDs material
  2. I suppose it depends a lot on the cab that the amps are connected to, but the best Class D amp I`ve used is the Ashdown RM-500, there`s just a lot more depth to the sound than any of the others I`ve had, of which there were a fair few (GK, Markbass, Aguilar, Ampeg). I thought all of them were great, none of them lacking at all but for me the RM-500 has them beat. I should add that I use mine connected to an 8ohm Ashdown 410 and it has power for days, a startling amount in fact.
  3. I shall be watching it. Was never a fan when they were big, but have found that I now rather like them so an evening in front of the box watching this awaits.
  4. User reviews first and foremost, but also check the db rating of the cab - the higher it is, in theory the louder the cab will be. A difference of 3db will be pretty noticeable. There`s a good few manufacturers who don`t put the db ratings of some of their cabs out, and co-incidentally those cabs are often the lower performing ones. And - and this isn`t rule of thumb - in general you get what you pay for, a lower budget cab often isn`t as good as a higher range cab from the same manufacturer. Doesn`t always work that way, sometimes the sound can be as good but the durability can be lesser.
  5. Nice one, I love my ABM600 - I`ve had it for about a year and a half now and previously I was always changing amps. Not anymore, the ABM600 is staying. It`s def the most flexible Ashdown amp I`ve had as well, the eq options on there can do pretty much anything imo. And agree re the power aspect, bucket-loads, I`ve played some pretty big stages with it just connected to my ABM410 and it`s been fine, just waiting for the opportunity to add in my ABM210 as well.

    NVD!

Derek at WV certainly knows his stuff. I got a set of pre-amp valves for an Ampeg SVT-3PRO from them a few years back and it made a very nice difference to the amp, much livelier.
  7. I think that may well be the weaker part of the set-up, the VX cabs were Hartkes lower priced, more vintage sounding cabs, and not that efficient in db ratings from what I`ve read. I like the recommendations of the Peavey amps, great gear, lasts forever, is heavy but worth it if you`re ok with carrying it. Add in a Sansamp/VT DI/Para Driver etc and you`re away with a quality sound. I`d still look at a different cab first though, that`s the weaker link in the current set-up imo.
  8. Well I get all my eq from my Sansamp so just have the RM set with all eq at noon or eq in the off position, don`t notice any difference to the eq of my ABM600, the sound of the ABM is bigger/bulkier at much higher volumes, but in rehearsals or pub-sized venues no difference to me.
  9. I found this with the NP4, very polite would be my description. Good sound, just not aggressive enough.
  10. It is a tricky one, Paul. Most of the 1977/early era punk is just great pop songs, Buzzcocks, Blondie, Undertones to name but a few. Considering the material by The Exploited, GBH, Partisans etc it`s sometimes baffling how it`s all part of the same genre as they`re so different.
  11. Not necessarily, a mate of mine has a Behringer amp head, not sure which one, and through the matching 410 cab it was plenty loud enough, and sounded great with it. Which Hartke 410 is it that you use - that may be a factor on this.
  12. If that`s a serious offer I`m good with that. Tho thinking about it it would probably mess up warranty issues, and things might not fit, so maybe my amp will have to remain like my scalp, shiny.
  13. I`ve found that on my Precisions I generally have the tone on full, but if I want to roll it off it`s about a third - I set the fixing screws from the control knobs to be facing downwards when fully off, and then when backing off line it up with one of the screws on the pickguard. This way it`s got a bit of each so to speak, and goes from a gnarly/growly/twangy sound to a more traditional warm P-sound.
  14. Looks great, I`m now on my second RM500 and just love how portable they are, and how they have such a good sound - by far the best Class D amp I`ve used as well. I use mine for rehearsals and as a backup as it`s so easy to cart about. I really like the look of the matt finish on the EVO II version tho, I`m one of those that middle-aged eyesight has got the better of, so anything to help gets a thumbs-up from me. And great that Ashdown have listened to feedback re this.
  15. If you can manage a 610 then I have a pretty decent one for sale - shameless plug - an Ashdown RM610 at £350.
  16. I never knew that Bill, thanks for the info. I`m a "we don`t need no steenking tweeters" guy anyway, so the above is very useful.
  17. We`re an originals band and have a sound somewhere between punk and Oi, which is Street Punk. What`s Street Punk, well it`s punk played by people that look more like they`re football supporters/drinkers/hooligans rather than out and out punks, Fred Perries, DMs, cammo shorts, that sort of stuff rather than mohicans, bondage trousers and studded leather jackets.
  18. Yes the in-house guy seems to like low-end bass. My sound is anything but and I`ve had "the discussion" about not DI`ing a flat Precision sound as he would destroy the sound of the band. He`s pretty reasonable though, and once you explain to him what you`re after he works pretty well to get it.
  19. We played The Underground in Dublin last night. We set off at 5am to catch the 11:30am ferry to Dublin. Got to the venue about 3pm, loaded gear in then went for a relaxing drink in a bar down the road. I had a Hartke LH500 & Hydrive 410 to play through, with my trusty Sansamp Paradriver providing my eq. We went on at 10pm for an hour and it was great, considering we`re an originals band it always amazes me the amount of people singing along with the songs. As we were in Ireland we had a temporary change of one of our songs, Football Beer & Punk Rock to Football Guinness & Punk Rock, which went down very well. Finished at 11pm, chilled for about 30mins then loaded the car, set off to the port for the 2:15 ferry back. Landed in Blighty at 5:45, home at 11:30ish. Tiring but a great day and great gig, the promoters were amazing, really hope they`ll want us back.
  20. Don, this says it all to me" thing is the P is a 73 and the best sounding and playing P I have ever had and I have had a few older and newier. I'm thinking that maybe one Precision is enough to own and the Roadworn is a close 2nd to the 73". Close second to the best example of a Precision you`ve ever had, of many isn`t good enough - keep the 73, you`ll regret it for years if you let it go. Sell the Roadworn, save a few Krone (or max the credit card) for the Jaydee
  21. That`s one of those questions, and without wanting to do myself out of a sale I`ve fitted these on some Squiers no worries, and on others they don`t even come close. 50/50 at best.
  22. If you liked the Evo ii I reckon you`ll love the Evo iv - it`s more flexible due to the added eq options, and it just seems louder, well I suppose it should seeing as it`s 600 v 500, but there just seems to be "more" sound from it. I`ve had mine now for some 18 months and that`s pretty good going for me, usually I seem to be changing amps like no tomorrow but the Evo iv is the amp for me (and I`ve found for practical purposes that the RM-500 is the backup amp for me).
  23. I had one of the same ones as @Reggaebass, pretty decent, played good and sounded it. As said, a deeper neck profile than many Jazzes, especially MIM Standards.

    PRicky?

I think Bruce Foxton seemed to have a few Rickys that weren`t all they seemed - there was a pic of one of his with a Jazz pickup in the bridge position.
