  1. Rather disturbing fixation on 13 year old girls in that, yuck!
  2. Black, irrespective of bass to be used. Only variation is I use a Mono GS1 Betty for rehearsals as they’re 3hrs with the bass whereas for gigs, which are 45mins max I use a Jim Dunlop nylon strap as it looks better.
  3. Well although punk is my main thing I’ve a quite varied taste in music, am def not one of those “it’s not punk it’s shxt” types (have hung around with enough of those over the years). I’ve just watched TOTP 1978 and really enjoyed Darts, Kate Bush and Gerry Rafferty.
  4. Her 1991 album Heart of Stone, which has Turn Back Time and Jesse James on is excellent, all the songs are great, it’s one of my fave albums.
  5. That is quality, I laughed out loud when I read that in Jake Burns’ book. Having met Jim it doesn’t surprise me at all. I think he was the best drummer for SLF.
  6. Great gig, Subhumans pull a good crowd (and play a darn fine gig too) so you should have a great time.
  7. Great sounds there, I’ll try and make one of the gigs on the tour.
  8. I’ve not really been present at that many auditions, only poor one I remember was a guy who turned up and had learned most of the songs in the wrong key, no idea which versions he’d listened to.
  9. @AlexDelores, the Jazz Juniors are available at Stompbox London, they look pretty decent, have been considering getting one myself.
  10. I experienced a phase of about 5 years in the early 90s where I didn’t play at all, didn’t even buy any new music. I’d kept my gear so when the time was right I just picked up where I left off. Sometimes a break for whatever reason is needed.
  11. Having thought about this my first “proper” bass was a Yamaha BB1100s. I bought in 1987 for £450. I’d gone to the music shop to buy a Fender Precision but they didn’t have any. Typical me, rather than wait I had to buy a bass that day, and the shop recommended the Yammy. It was a very good bass, played superbly and I could coax many different sounds from it. But I never loved that bass. I lent it out to a good few people as well, something I’d never do with an instrument I loved.
  12. Well this week, being on leave from work I’ve been doing a fair bit of playing, both on my fave Fender Precision and my JMJ Mustang and I have to admit that I’m no longer a Precision player but am now a Mustang player, they just suit me far better in pretty much every aspect. After years of playing Precisions I feel a bit disloyal admitting this to myself and I’ll never move on said Precision but Mustangs are my way forward.
  13. There’s not much there that I really like - a couple of Oasis & Cher albums aside - but many people really do, those artists have brought a lot of happiness to a great many people. Just not me and many on here it seems.
  14. I did similar but with two white/maple Precisions. One had some wear to the body but a pristine neck, the other was the opposite with wear to the neck and pristine body so I swapped necks to have one bass with wear on body & neck, the other to be in pristine condition all over.
  15. I have three JMJs - all black ones. To make sure I use them all I have one for home use, one for rehearsal and one for gigs. The gigger gets the least use.
  16. Agree, bass far more prominent in the mix and doing a lot more as well. Def a case of band leader guitarist on bass methinks.
  17. Since I’ve gone short scale I’ve neglected my fave US Fender Precision. I’m on leave this week and have picked it up a few times, reminding myself of why it’s my fave bass so have made a pledge to myself that I shall play it every Sunday morning at least.
  18. I dare say there may be musicians out there that have bought instruments because they were within their budgets but have come to the realisation that they just don’t like them but due to funds are stuck with them.
  19. I think it is all dependent on the drummer. In one of my bands a BF210 would be fine, with more to go. In the other I’m pushing whatever 600w amp is there into an Ampeg 810 and just about get there.
  20. Looks great Dave, if only regular scale basses were an option…
  21. I used one of these amps last week, was very easy to get a very good sound from it, GLWTS.
  22. Warwick Red Label steel rounds are quite high tension. I switched to them from Rotosound and instead of getting 4 weeks out of a set of Rotos got 8 - 10 weeks from a set of Warwick’s. Cheap too, currently £12 for 45-105 at G4M.
  23. There’s a certain irony there isn’t there, and I suspect many players with nitro instruments feel the same, get some wear on this thing, makes it unique to the owner.
  24. He should turn up at the game today with his kit & ready to play, after all not like they told him he wasn’t successful.
