Yeah, if looking to reduce in rig size I`d probably look at the Barefaced Super Midget and a suitable Class D head. When we did the cab shootout a few years back at the SE Bash I was really impressed with the quality and amount of sound form the Super Midget.

Great response from Ashdown, and what it says to me in a nutshell is that he simply prefers the sound of their gear to other brands. Which is the way it should be imo.

Yeah, Nate Mendel has used Ashdown for years. I suppose it`s always worth checking out new gear - hey, it`s not like us on here don`t - but appears that there`s something that Ashdown provides which Barefaced doesn`t. Having had cabs from both companies, and currently using Ashdown, I`d be interested to find out what made NM stick with Ashdown.

Def worth a look, I used the Dyna Comp model on the B3 and it was pretty good. Plus you get a tuner (and many other effects) so you can keep to the same amount of pedals, assuming a pedal tuner is used of course.

That`s pretty much it for me, in fact I`ve decided to keep both my MIMs and use those as my gigging basses, keeping just the one US Standard for home use and recording.

We go in two vehicles, me or the singer/guitarist drive with our respective gear, and the drummer takes his van with the drums and merch, plus his wife, who deals with selling said merch.

He`s a natural, great playing, really impressed by that.

Got them off of amazon - did a search and found a place in Germany doing them at about £7.84 per set, delivery extra so I bought 6 sets at once to keep costs down, 6 sets of strings for about £52, can`t go wrong with that.

Yeah I went for these primarily for the price, and really like the sound which is a bonus. I need that new string sound, have to change strings once a month so a real bonus that I can now do it for £8.

Well that`s helped with my decision to put some damping material in, thanks Bill. I`ll update on this post once I`ve got round to it.

Yep I`ve recently bought a set of these, and it`s the "clack" when you fret the strings that really jumps out. Nickel plated steel.

Yep, I`ve been using Rotosound steels for years, recently decided to try Warwick Red Label steels and the end of my index finger on my left hand has developed a bit of fraying skin - am amazed, didn`t think they came rougher than Rotos!

It was a good while back, but I don`t recall having anything bad to say about any of it, band/bassist/singing/anything. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I went to see Dancing In The Street a few years back and it was excellent.

The guy I dealt with recommended that I do this on my cab, said it would really tighten things up. I`ve used the cab this eve and it sounds great though, so coupling this with my natural laziness means I`m holding off on damping the cab at present, think it was Dacron he advised to use?

That`s it for me Dave, never know what amp I`m using, so keep settings on my Para Driver as standard to FOH, amp eq to suit on-stage. I`ll update on this later on, got a prac this eve so going to give it a tryout.

Inline for me - going to try via FX Return at some point just to see, but most of my gigs are with provided rigs so for ease of use and standardising, always inline, makes it easier.

I think you`re on to something there Bill. I`d always loved the punchiness of the ABM610 & 810 when I used them, wondered why the 410 didn`t have the same sound, but last week was told that both the 610 & 810 are sealed - and the blurb on the site seems to indicate that the same speakers are used in all of the cabs.

Cynicism and realism in equal amounts there. Yep, I remember TOTP was THE subject at school on Fridays, and usually determined what your pocket money was going to be spent on.

I`ve recently had the port on my ABM410 closed off. I spoke to Ashdown about what I was after, as the cab seemed too "wampy" and backing off of the bass, although getting there, wasn`t getting as near as I wanted. They suggested closing off the port so last week I stuck a towel in the (front) port. Instantly the sound I want was there, tight and focused, it really made that much difference. Previously, using my Para Driver as my main eq I still had to use the eq on the amp to back off the lows and up the high mids, now I have the eq on it bypassed using only the Para Driver.

Laney gear has always sounded good when I`ve used it, either bass or guitar amps. I had an LC50 guitar amp head and it was immense, really loud, much smoother than a Marshall, worked really well for me as I was the rhythm guitarist in the band so provided a good platform for the spikier sounding Marshall to work over.

That is a pretty stunning collection Steve, and really not helping me with the fact that I currently have 7 Precisions and am desperately trying to convince myself that at least 2 are surplus to requirements (when I really don`t want to offload any).
