  1. We`re an originals band and have a sound somewhere between punk and Oi, which is Street Punk. What`s Street Punk, well it`s punk played by people that look more like they`re football supporters/drinkers/hooligans rather than out and out punks, Fred Perries, DMs, cammo shorts, that sort of stuff rather than mohicans, bondage trousers and studded leather jackets.
  2. Yes the in-house guy seems to like low-end bass. My sound is anything but and I`ve had "the discussion" about not DI`ing a flat Precision sound as he would destroy the sound of the band. He`s pretty reasonable though, and once you explain to him what you`re after he works pretty well to get it.
  3. We played The Underground in Dublin last night. We set off at 5am to catch the 11:30am ferry to Dublin. Got to the venue about 3pm, loaded gear in then went for a relaxing drink in a bar down the road. I had a Hartke LH500 & Hydrive 410 to play through, with my trusty Sansamp Paradriver providing my eq. We went on at 10pm for an hour and it was great, considering we`re an originals band it always amazes me the amount of people singing along with the songs. As we were in Ireland we had a temporary change of one of our songs, Football Beer & Punk Rock to Football Guinness & Punk Rock, which went down very well. Finished at 11pm, chilled for about 30mins then loaded the car, set off to the port for the 2:15 ferry back. Landed in Blighty at 5:45, home at 11:30ish. Tiring but a great day and great gig, the promoters were amazing, really hope they`ll want us back.
  4. Don, this says it all to me" thing is the P is a 73 and the best sounding and playing P I have ever had and I have had a few older and newier. I'm thinking that maybe one Precision is enough to own and the Roadworn is a close 2nd to the 73". Close second to the best example of a Precision you`ve ever had, of many isn`t good enough - keep the 73, you`ll regret it for years if you let it go. Sell the Roadworn, save a few Krone (or max the credit card) for the Jaydee
  5. That`s one of those questions, and without wanting to do myself out of a sale I`ve fitted these on some Squiers no worries, and on others they don`t even come close. 50/50 at best.
  6. If you liked the Evo ii I reckon you`ll love the Evo iv - it`s more flexible due to the added eq options, and it just seems louder, well I suppose it should seeing as it`s 600 v 500, but there just seems to be "more" sound from it. I`ve had mine now for some 18 months and that`s pretty good going for me, usually I seem to be changing amps like no tomorrow but the Evo iv is the amp for me (and I`ve found for practical purposes that the RM-500 is the backup amp for me).
  7. I had one of the same ones as @Reggaebass, pretty decent, played good and sounded it. As said, a deeper neck profile than many Jazzes, especially MIM Standards.

    PRicky?

I think Bruce Foxton seemed to have a few Rickys that weren`t all they seemed - there was a pic of one of his with a Jazz pickup in the bridge position.
  9. Nah, for Bedroom Noodler insetr Custom Shop, lol
  10. Have to admit from a marketing point of view it makes more sense to not have both MIM & US "Standards". I think Professional & Player are pretty clear, though maybe it should have been Professional & Weekend Warrior perhaps?
  11. That does look a stunner, Nick
  12. I recently bought a Tonerider Precision Plus pickup and it sounds very much like the Custom Shop 62s that are in my US Precisions. They`re very reasonably priced too, so may be worth checking out both P&Js in their range.
  13. MIM, white, black guard, maple neck, why look no further:
  14. Yep a black guard on that will really make it look great, even a nice tort maybe.
  15. That`s a great shame, we played there last year, fantastic venue.
  16. Agreed, I think it was a prog about Bowie where the piano playing on Life on Mars was analysed and it`s apparently musically "wrong". Which is what made it so right.
  17. It was similar in the SE Bash, Stevie, Berg CN212 won by a mile.
  18. Vintage - I`ve been very impressed with the Tony Butler Signature Precision I picked up recently. Just think the name makes looking for instruments a bit difficult, vintage bass, vintage guitar etc, end up with any old pony bit of gear.
  19. There`s not much wrong with Peavey gear, aside from the weight of the older ones. I`m not that clued up on their gear but I`m sure they must have got round to introducing lighter cabs into their range. One of my fave cabs is the TVX410 but at 110lbs I`ve never even considered buying one.
  20. The description says Barefaced Big Twin II to me. Not cheap but if I had to describe one Transparent, featherweight, 4ohm, vertically aligned would be pretty much exactly how I`d do so.
  21. It is a strange one, and one I still can`t work out. For years I`ve used Rotosounds, but as I need that twangy/brightness you get from a fresh set of steel rounds I`ve found that Rotos although they sound great just die too quickly. So I`ve moved to Warwick Red Lables, and I get pretty much the same sound but at least twice the life/almost three times as much.
  22. I`m in Hemel Hempstead, J8 on the M1 about 20 miles north of London
  23. Hmmm, the cynic in me says pretty much the same basses, differnet name, higher price tag, a bit like what they did with the US Standard/Professional tagging. And I`m a Fender fanboi.
  24. Thanks Mark, that is a good price all in, bargain in fact
  25. Good call, the Tonerider pickups are great, they are very close to the Custom Shop 62 pickups that come in US Fenders. One of those and a KiOgon wiring loom, instant improvement in both quality parts and sound.
