  1. If it`s not an easy fix for yourself drop Ashdown a line, they`re on here, and are pretty good with customer service, they`ll be able to advise.
  2. Agree, whatever has been filmed sounds pony when listening back, why not concentrate on hearing the good sound of the gig, and actually watch the bands. Oops, showing my age there...........

Without wanting to hijack, I`m selling an RM414 (the 4ohm version) for £275 - includes Roqsolid cover and go-faster castors.
  4. I`d look at a Mex Fender Precision, then swap the tuners to Hipshots. Better tuners, plus lighter too. Should be able to do that within budget pretty easily (I did).
  5. That is a deal and a half!
  6. As long as you don`t push the low end you should be fine, main thing as others have said, let yourears make the call on when to turn down (if necessary).
  7. It`s a great read, and sounded like a very intense wild time on that tour
  8. The Markbass CMD121P has plenty enough volume for smaller gigs and rehearsals, however I think the better option would be a small cab so you can keep your sound by using your TH500 with it. Having heard the current crop of Barefaced cabs I`d go for a Super Midget if possible, I was really impressed with it when heard an array of them. All were great, but the SM just "spoke" to me.
  9. Alvin Gibbs of The UK Subs was/is a pretty decent player. Decent bloke as well.
  10. Second that, get the same cab again, doubling up on the same cabs is something to behold

For that sound the Ashdown RM range of amp heads would be ideal. Bruce Foxton and Nate Mendel both use Ashdowns anyway, and having had the RM amps they can do the sounds specified spot on. On much larger stages there is a bit of a difference between the RM & ABM range but for regular pub/club gigs I`m not sure it would be noticed. Edit - butof course the ABM from Ashdown will fit the bill, as that`s specifically what both BF & NM use. Aiming for their type of sound, makes sense to me to use similar gear. You`re there with the Precision, grab the Ashdown and you`re sorted.
  12. What a shame, as said, 52 is no age
  13. It may well be cos whenever I hear it I focus on what Glen Matlock is playing on the Pistols version, so don`t notice JEs playing. Heresy I know........
  14. The Sex Pistols version is, for me at least, a far better version of the song, and love what Glen Matlock plays, not sure if that was what The Ox played as can`t really make out his basslines too well in it, but GM def on form on their version.
  15. Doesn`t bother me, pretty sure no-one would think it was a rabid right-wingers theme tune.
  16. Yeah, bout time too. Think they need a separate head at some point, but this could be a wise move for Blackstar, good on `em.
  17. That`s a good point, if you`re really looking for the "ultimate" then spending time on research and playing as many as possible is not time wasted - and it should be good fun as well.
  18. There have been a few Gen2 Barefaced cabs knocking around recently, pretty much any of them will fit the bill.
  19. Have a listen to the Peel Session version on youtube, it`s much clearer to work out what exactly is going on.
  20. Yeah no worries, is still in the original packaging
  21. Yeah, I watched the tv prog about that, looks like the whole band, but particularly John Lydon had a ball doing that. From the footage shown I`d say they enjoyed playing to the kids and having a cake-fight in the afternoon much more than playing to the adults in the evening.
  22. I never really thought that much of Status Quo, neither liked nor disliked, but when my mate told me how they put on a good day out for sick kids - his 15 year old niece had cancer, thankfully fought it and won - and mostly away from the cameras, my opinion of them went to the like/admire side. Apparently they spent the whole day with the kids, really treating them, and from what I`ve been told it wasn`t a grin & bear it, they wanted to be there and were glad to be.
  23. If you go from an ok rated efficiency 500 watt 8ohm cab, say 98dB, to a good efficiency rated 800 watt 4ohm cab, 103dB for example you will get slightly more volume, and given the efficiency of the cab it hopefully should better represent the sound being - usually - a better cab anyway. But really, on the much larger stages, it`s speaker cones that have the advantage. Think of a vodka & tonic, equal parts vodka & tonic you taste the vodka pretty well. Now have that same amount of vodka matched with 10 times the amount of tonic, suddenly you don`t taste the vodka as much. Probably a pony way of explaining it, but that`s how my ears have found it over the years, big stage = more speaker cones (or better on-stage monitoring of course).
  24. Well it may be worth considering a K-Series 410 & 210, if within budget. Each cab will get the same amount of power which in theory can be a bad thing, but I`ve done this with a good few makes now (Ampeg, Marshall, currently with Ashdown) and it`s worked very well. The addition of that extra two 10s going is very nice, as as well as getting full power from your amp - unlikely you`ll ever need that tho, I would have thought - you are adding another 50% of coneage, plus raising it higher so you hear yourself better. And then for rehearsals you only need to take the 410 along, so it makes life a little easier not having to lug two cabs about all the time. I`ve found in larger venues that the more speaker cones plus the higher up they`ve been the easier it`s been to hear the bass well.
