2. Vinyl is making a pretty good comeback, and they do sell at gigs as well as online. I agree def re the artwork etc, much better to be able to actually see/read it, but sound-wise, well sure if we`re talking mega expensive systems there may be noticeable difference in quality with vinyl coming out on top, but on my set-up CDs win.
3. Having had BF cabs I can certainly agree that they have a much less coloured sound than the majority of the regular brands that are about. Yes the S12T that I had sounded smaller than the Ampeg fridge, but the two S12Ts I had, well they def gave a good battle. There is something special about plugging into a full Ampeg stack though, it`s probably the same for guitarists using a Marshall full stack, seldom needed, but grin-inducing nonetheless.
4. Are You Gonna be My Girl by Jet, Harmonic Generator by The Datsuns, both pretty decent this-century songs
5. Take it easy on the lows, and use your ears, you should be fine.
6. But which July, Mick, has that been specified yet.
7. I saw them in, 2009 I think, at Wembley. never been a major fan, though have a good few of their CDs, but their recorded material is just that bit too polished for me. But live I thought they were great. Some bands to me lose themselves in a big venue but I thought that it really suited the Foos, it seemed to really work for their sound.
8. Our old producer worked with Oasis on their far east tour, and said they were more like a street gang than a band. I`m not fussed by Liams behaviour, I loved their earlier stuff, and having been a major Sex Pistols fan in my youth Oasis didn`t seem at all outrageous to me, quite safe and sedate really.
9. Only sell your gear if you need to, Bob. You never know when the feeling to suddenly play may come along, and if you`ve sold it on, not being able to then play might be an additional factor to your depression. Enjoy the feeling of people wanting you to be in a band, but only join if you really want it - no-one can join every band. Look at it like being head-hunted for a big company, those guys can`t take up every offer, but it must be extremely flattering and positive to receive those offers.
10. Can`t really think of many though I did watch John Fogerty doing a live perfomance of Fortunate Son and his bassist was a tad, well you get the idea.
11. Gary just bought a bass - Fender Precision, well what else am I likely to have - from me. Good comms, came and collected and we had a good chat about all sorts of things.
12.
No Duff fans?
Plenty Chris, but I`m trying so hard to forget about this beauty.
13. I`m in a similar position, my tone is very twangy and driven, to DI it before my DI Pedal (what a novel idea, eh, have had someone try) would decimate the sound of the band. Nothing wrong with a regular Precision sound, but putting James Jamersons sound into my band, where my sound is more like JJ Burnell, well which rocket surgeon would think that`s a good idea? Oh yeah, someone that`s never heard the band before, but "knows the room". Luckily I`ve only encountered a couple of people like this along the way in my current band, out of many more than 100, so it`s not something I`m that concerned with. Plus most of the venues we play are venues for our type of music, so the sound-people know what they`re doing on this genre anyway. I think the main thing though, is knowing what you are sending to FOH, and keeping the signals even, no volume spikes due to badly thought out effects etc. Most of the time the sound-people will recognise when someone knows what they`re doing - or is bluffing well in my case - so they`re happy to go with what the bands want.
14. Nice one guys, congratulations.
15.
Lol what have you bought now that means you're moving this one on?
Erm, would you believe, a black/black/maple Fender Precision It is a US one though, so now got three US Precisions.
16. NOW SOLD One Mex Fender Precision in black/black/maple In good condition, good player, sounds good, in fact a good all round bass. Comes with a Thomann hard case. I`ve just used my - dunno if they`re trusty or not - luggage scales and they`re flitting between 9 & 9.2lbs for the weight-conscious out there. £400 and it`s yours. Contact me if you need postage, we can discuss from there. For those looking on mobiles I`m in Hemel Hempstead (J8 on the M1, 20 miles north of London) No trades thanks
17. I watched them and was struck at how many basses he used, all of which to me sounded the same. I think it must have been on his bucket list to do more instrument changes than The Edge.
18. If the material needs shiny bright zing then make the change, if not then relax and enjoy.
19. That`s interesting, I`ll have to look for that - I`m no technical whizz but am sure I can find someone competent to do it, would be great to have mids on the BDI21.
20. Having auditioned for a few bands in the past, I`ve found that no matter how good the ad, what matters is how the band sounds when you get there and plug in. Sure a poor ad can put people off, but a great ad with a poor band, well prob do the same, just after you`ve made the effort to go there.
21. I used to use my Boss TU2 for this. Only slight downside is that when you hit the pedal to tune something only one amp goes quiet.
22. Lets bump this powerful mini-rig
23. Yeah, tried it through an Ampeg 810, bass was a bit iffy, looked like an OLP Musicman copy with a Fender neck on it, but yep, amp seems fine, went loud enough and sounded fine.
24. Congrats, Bass Guitar Mag this month gives a glowing review of this amp, sounds like in the "real" world it`s also a hit.
