1. I usually have the valve thingy set to fully off on my ABM600, preferring a sharper on-stage sound, however on recording last week I turned it up halfway and there was a much richer depth to the sound. The harmonics also seemed to sing out more.
2. Behringer XM8500 - slightly less "nasal" than an SM58, but a darn good mic. I`ve had mine for a good few years now.
3. Check out Booze & Glorys latest album, Chapter 4 - their bassist, Bubbles is pretty amazing, I`ve put a link to one of their songs below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJA1W7eTb1s
4. We rehearse at gig volumes, as our gig volume is that the amps match the volume of the drums, and the vocals are able to be heard above the backline. If we need to be louder then FOH handles that
5. I`ve found that many OD pedals seem to add harsh top end, but the Tech21 pedals manage to avoid this, unless set to do that of course. My current fave - and keeper - is the Para Driver. It really is a great pedal.
6. Excellent choice, used to have a couple in that very colour scheme, a great combination imo.
7.
Thanks for all the input guys! And Lozz your pearls of wisdom where much appreciated. I final decided on a second hand 2015 am standard, purchased from a nice chap in Milton Keynes - through Reverb. Had a rehearsal this week with the full band. And it sounded awesome! V happy boy! Thanks again Mick.
Nice one Mick, glad to have helped. So the burning question, colour scheme, and maple or rosewood?
8. Chris bought an OBBM lead from me. As he was in the area he collected from mine and we had a cuppa and a good chat about all things bass/music, as you do. Nice and easy transaction, deal with confidence.
9. I`ve had numerous amps over the years - since joining Basschat that is. Too many to list but those I`d mention as being ones I`ve particularly liked are the Markbass Little Mark Tube, Aguilar Tonehammer, and Ashdown ABM600-EVO IV & RM-500-EVO. I`m yet to have an amp that I don`t like as I can usually find a sound I can work with from most.
10. Bought some leads from me, good comms, swift payment, advised when items received, all that`s good in a transaction.
11. Just bought a crackin black/black/maple - what else - US Precision from Karl. Great comms throughout, and a great bass, deal with confidence. I`m sure given our many transactions to date that this one`s unlikely to be the last between us.
12. Now that`s a question Dave. It`s in a triangle shape if that`s of any help. When I bought the splitter box from you to do the same job, allow connecting 2 4ohm cabs up to a 4ohm head, your other option was one of these if I recall correctly.
13. I can`t see why not, but might be wise PMing someone like OBBM for his advice - he did knock up something similar for me, but again was speakons.
14. I set mine by eye rather than using gauges etc but always try to match the radius of the neck.
15. The Deluxe Active mentioned is a good bass, very versatile due to that eq range, you can get near Stingray sounds as well as near Precision sounds, plus obviously great Jazz tones. Def worth checking out.
16. Price and technology aren`t factors in sound when compared to ears. If you prefer the sound of something cheap to something expensive all the tech and money in the world can`t change that. Bit like me and food, I prefer a plate of pie & mash to fine dining grub, cost and technique aren`t factors, my taste buds are all that count.
17. Hanoi Rocks managed to get the saxophone into glam/sleaze rock pretty well.
18. Announce to the audience that the person you`ve just been talking to wanted you to play The Birdie Song, but that not all of you know it so you`re going to learn it for the next gig. He`ll either feel such a pillock he`ll slope off, or he`ll tw*t you. 50/50, but it has to be worth the risk.
19. Less outlay for a 112 cab than a 212, plus more modular/convenient stack, one cab for smaller gigs/rehearsals, both when needed.
20. Just bought a little Ashdown MiBass amp off of Col. Hopefully won`t have to use it as it`s as a backup. Incredibly easy transaction, picked it up at his, had a nice cuppa and a chat about music etc, recommended.
21. Rather expensive "ornaments" Jennie, but that Gibson amp does fit in very well, you obviously have a good interior designer mind. Plus being able to use said Gibson (and others) plus the intended Ampeg B15 makes those "ornaments" much more useful than regular ones.
22. NOW SOLD One splitter cable from Barefaced. Basically enables you to connect two 4ohm cabs for example to a 4ohm head. Not just for Barefaced cabs though, will work with any make, so long as your amp and cabs all take Speakon connectors.
23. A right old selection here, all in good condition, all jack plugs are Neutriks unless otherwise stated: 1 x 6 metre instrument leads, right angle to right angle - £15 1 x 2 metre instrument lead, straight to straight - £10 1 x 30cm straight to right angle - £4 Add £2 to each for postage, or contact me for a mix n match
24. A selection of Planet Waves leads, all in good nick, no duffers: 1 x 2 metre instrument lead (higher quality lead), straight to right angle 1 x 4 metre instrument lead (medium quality lead), straight to straight 1 x 30cm patch lead, straight to straight £15 gets these to your letter box - might be too big to go through it, mind
