The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Lozz196 replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Good thing is he’s within driving distance so for me a lot easier to deal with. I’ll update on progress. -
Wow, not often you can say £3000 is a bargain but in this case I’d def say so.

Going into a guitar shop and not buying anything..

If I’m in a music shop and they happen to stock Elixir strings then I’ll pick up a spare set, though this isn’t often, many don’t stock them. -
The bass sale that turned a (massive) corner…

I’ve been looking into getting a short scale bass made to the specs I want and Maruszczyk seem to be the ones that can do it. Their configurator is very easy to use and looks like I can get what I’m after for around £1500. -
That’s a great deal

The Spacewasters are at this years Psychobilly Freakout at The New Cross Inn, SE London. We’re on 6pm-ish on Sun 3rd Nov.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
Lozz196 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Not last night but Thursday we (The Spacewasters) got together as we’ve a gig next weekend, we only really rehearse when a gig is looming. Went very well, I lent the rhythm guitarist my BluGuitar Amp as he hates his amp (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) and to all our ears it was a vast improvement, matched well with his Gretsch White Falcon. Playing wise was good, we’re putting in another song off of our forthcoming album and given that last time it didn’t sound so hot this time it worked really well which was great. We also tried a bit of the singer on guitar with the rhythm guitarist as the lead guitarist is leaving next year, again sounded good, though the singer is first to admit his limitations on guitar it worked well so we can gig without a replacement if necessary. -
The best Formal, and Informal, musical lesson of your life?

Similar for me, wasn’t allowed to be in the choir at school, couldn’t sing apparently Good job I got into punk I suppose…….. -
I had one of these years ago - mid 80s I think.

The two band leaders of my first proper bands taught me in pretty much equal parts what to do and what not to do whilst in a band. I should clarify this was in respect of things they did themselves, never in respect of advice given. Sometimes what they did made so much sense, other times I actually wondered if they needed a brain in their donkey to make their legs work as the one in their head clearly wasn’t up to the task of the most simple things. -
Yep, that would get a “Please return it, upon receipt I’ll refund the postage costs” response.

I used Roto steel rounds for years, that fresh out of the pack sound was ideal for the aggressive punk sound I had.

Nick Wilkinson (Pretenders) bass current UK tour?
Lozz196 replied to TbirdnTalman's topic in Bass Guitars
I’ve just got back from seeing them at The London Palladium and he was using the very same bass. Good sound too, really fitted in the mix well (which was also a really good sound). -
Yeah have to agree that I`m not a fan of his guitar & singing stuff, really should stick with bass & backing vox imo, much better in that role. He even says in his book he`s "got a rotten Hobsons" - Hobsons being voice for those not versed in Cockney.

I`d happily pay someone to do the mid-mod on my BDI21, my soldering skills being non-existent.

Marshall VBC412 my fave cab too @fretmeister. I left mine in the car all the time, was too big & heavy to move on my own, but I loved that cab, paired it with the Marshall DBS7400.

As Swiss Toni would say, ply it with fine wines & Belgian chocolates.

gigs cancelled by possible disgruntled ex manager?
Lozz196 replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
Works the other way too, we once played a pub that had changed hands and although the new landlord was honouring all the bookings it was clear he didn`t want any music in his pub, nothing done to promote the gig, stage area changed etc etc. Given he`d done nothing to draw in the locals after about 4 songs of us playing to no-one he asked us to take £100 and stop playing/go away. -
I find that it`s not quite as full-on as the Sansamp so I can coax a more natural amp sound from it. It`s a great sounding piece of kit irrespective of cost, but when you look at just how reasonably priced they are to me anyone gigging venues with FOH can`t make many better choices than taking one of these along as a just-in-case.

should bands carry on when there's only one original member?
Lozz196 replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
If that was Alaska 127 whilst I think it`s an excellent album I`d get where the crowd were coming from, sure promote your new album by playing the lead tracks off it, that`s what bands do, but play mostly stuff the audience know. -

I saw The Vibrators do a set last night at The 100 Club at a memorial for their old bassist Pat Collier who sadly passed earlier this year. The usual gigging line-up only has Eddie the drummer from the originals, however due to the event Knox the singer also attended even though he`s not in particularly great health. Sounded great. -
Would be too hot after all these years 🤣
