  1. That’s very interesting, I might well try a set of those
  2. Think Rotosounds that have had a days playing to dull down that completely new zing. Thats Elixirs out of the packet, and they stay like that for some 6+ months. If you need that really bright new zing it’s worth trying Warwick Red Label steel rounds. I used to use Rotos but needed that new zing and got fed up with having to change strings so regularly, read that Warwick Reds were good so tried them, used to get 8 to 10 weeks out of them as oppose to the 3 weeks I got from Rotos.
  3. Check out the Aguilar DB599 on Youtube, it`s not super driven but adds a nice amount of "extra" if that makes sense.
  4. Mesa Boogie?
  5. I’ve recently switched to Fender heavy tort triangles from Dunlop Ultex triangles. They give warmer slightly more traditional sound than the scooped modern sound of the Ultex.
  6. I wish more bands would do that, I get fed up with hearing bands thank pretty much everyone on the planet throughout their set, zip it & play some more songs instead. I get that some front-persons chat between songs is a highlight for some people but not me.
  7. Or, if specifically looking at amp & cab(s) - and a shameless plug here - look at one of the Ashdown RM amps as per BassAdders post and the 2 Ashdown ABM Pro Neo 210 cabs I have up for sale 😀. 13kg each and a nice set up plenty good enough for the venue size stated.
  8. I’ve only ever owned 3 road worn instruments, all JMJ basses. I didn’t pick them for the road worn aspect and although it comes in handy, as in if you do ding it it doesn’t really matter, if they did non road worn versions I’d probably have gone for those.
  9. A Fender Rumble 800 combo might be worth looking at. 13kg, plenty of power.
  10. Agree, whilst they might not be the most technically proficient band listen to how the bass works in The Sex Pistols, providing a foundation on which the guitar works. Similarly AC/DC, locks in with the drums and doesn’t cut into what the guitars are doing.
  11. When I was using Markbass gear I loved it, had quite a few different set ups and all were good. I moved on as I needed aggressive highs and gain/drive which I couldn’t get from them. From what I understand the eq points on some of their amps are now set differently though. Out of all the different set ups I had the Little Mark Tube & 410HR, and the CMD121P & NY121 were my faves.
  12. I found their cabs to have a high end roll off. Fine if the bass stack is handling all the low end in a venue but if you’re DI-ing to Front of House then what that gets will include more high end.
  13. I agree Dave, really like that
  14. Unusual string tree placing
  15. Yup, they do sound great
  16. I’ve been playing my fairly recently acquired Fender MIJ Mustang a lot lately. I found that with my regular steel Elixir rounds it was a bit harsh and lacking a bit of depth so rather than change pickups bought a set of nickel Elixir rounds to try and it’s dealt with both aspects. The Jazz width neck is really easy to play, especially as I’m now getting arthritis in my left thumb (which was the reason I bought this bass). I’ve also found that due to the looser tension it’s made me play less forcefully than on my Precisions, so I’m getting a more melodic feel. I have gone up a gauge from 45-100 to 55-110 but they’re still looser which again is suiting me, something I wouldn’t have expected.
  17. I just read that the Bernie Marsden (of Whitesnake) auction included a Korean Squier Strat and that he used this to record most of an album in 2004 as he preferred it to a number of much higher end guitars. Just shows that it’s what the hands & fingers like that’s important and price tag maybe not so much. Although I went for one higher end bass over several lower priced one it would of course depend on it feeling better to play.
  18. Nice one, re The Macc Lads, I spotted the Under 18 thing on the poster and it reminded me of their first album, which was billed as Not for Minors (or Engineers).
  19. That`s a great shot
  20. If you have a distortion sound call the time then keeping the Scrambler could be an option to boost/add gain during guitar solos.
  21. A good new set up you’re getting there!
  22. I always do the pencil in the nut thing when stringing my instruments nowadays, figured it must make things better, and given the scenario you mention above am glad I do this.
  23. Thankfully yes, ACS PRO17s, bring the levels down nicely otherwise I’d be stone deaf.
  24. They have them in the rehearsal studio we use. Which is fortunate given that our caffeine fuelled chimp is the loudest drummer I’ve ever played with. I have to have the 1000 watt hired amp connected to the 810 on about 7 or 8 just to keep up.
  25. Def, Glen Matlock had some very nice inventive bass lines to some of those songs - and a great sound too.
