I had one of their Tony Butler Sig Precisions, was a superb instrument. Up until I got it I read many endorsements by pros stating how much they loved their own Vintage guitars and was sceptical, that changed when I bought mine. If it weren’t for the fact that I somehow feel disloyal playing anything other than Fender - yep, stupid I know - I’d have had a couple of them and gigged those rather than my more expensive US Fenders.

I keep thinking of one of @stevies cabs, given back issues a single good cab seems the way to go and the off-axis projection of these appears to be much better than anything else around.

I play similar basses/strings and have found that if the tweeters were switched on on my Ashdown cabs they added more definition and modernness to the sound, however I prefer my high end in a more old school way, less sharp and precise so I leave them off.

You’re in for a great night, they really are excellent

Gigs/Working with sound engineers /volume levels
Lozz196 replied to cdog's topic in General Discussion
It`s worth going wireless, standing out front when a song is going on and then when it`s stopped asking the soundperson what the words were on the chorus. If they can`t answer ask them to turn the backline down until the words can be understood. Often it`s the vocals that suffer in the inane attempt to have the worlds largest sounding kick drum and the then desperate attempts to match the backline to it. Getting soundpeoples to acknowledge that the words are important can result in a quieter gig. -
My thoughts too, the Stingray just doesn`t seem to work with those great riffs.

The backing vocalists clearly aren`t on the food rider..............

Sounds good Dave, one of my fave SLF songs

Thanks for the tip-off, I didn’t know they were back there. I saw them there last year (or was it year before???) and they were excellent. Ticket now purchased!

Help please! Markbass for pop-rock, which one to choose?
Lozz196 replied to salaourtxe's topic in Amps and Cabs
I saw 3 different bands last night, all used the same CMD121P and it was excellent. In a room that probably holds 50-80 people it filled the room easily. -
All of my gigs are with shared/provided backlines so my Sansamp with its always the same settings goes FOH, I then just adjust whatever amp I’m using for on stage sound. As long as that’s not too boomy all is well & good.

I might just sort some Ultralites for the 2 Mustangs I use with my bands, I’m sure Hipshot will advise which ones I’d need for a JMJ.
-
I’ve switched allegiances from Precisions to Mustangs this year and whilst there’s a bit of neck dive if I remove my left hand completely from the neck I don’t notice it otherwise.

I’m down to 3 categories on musical instruments My fave ever bass which I’ll never sell The basses I need for my bands (ok prob one too many here) An electric and an acoustic guitar In the past I’ve had different types of bass, you know the classic three of P, J, Ray, but I just end up aiming for the same sound from them so it’s pointless imo. As such I’ve now just got Mustangs for band duties.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

That’s a good vid -
Those were my thoughts, go out there with an instrument in a case, return with one, just a much better one at a knock down price.
-
I remember it quite well as at the time I pretty much disliked all of the music on that day - what a fool I was!
-
Well Tony James used one of their basses in Generation Sex, if it’s good enough to play Glastonbury it must be ok.

I stopped playing in the early 90s for about 4 maybe 5 years, didn`t buy any music at all or go to see bands, but then - and though I didn`t go to see any of them - Brit Pop happened and guitars were "in" again so this being played on radio & TV coaxed me back in. Nothing wrong in just taking a break from a hobby.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Lozz196 replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
Yep, don`t reinvent the wheel, a short-scale BB bass I`m sure would get a lot of interest. -
I`m in two bands, one that gigs and one that doesn`t. Somewhat ironically the band that doesn`t gig rehearses more than the one that does - essentially it`s more of a lads get-together where we play some songs and have a laugh, we haven`t even got a singer and don`t want one. The gigging band does about 10 gigs a year, maybe a few more rehearsals than that and we`ve just recorded a new album. I often think where`s the point as we do so little but when I`m gigging/rehearsing/recording with them I get my answer, I simply love it. Had a bit of a blip earlier this year though due to back issues, I really thought I was going to have to stop gigging but thankfully short-scale basses and a Sansamp are my way forward.

Sometimes managers/owners/promoters just take a dislike to bands, it`s happened with bands I was in in the past, looking back most were warranted imo but in one case it wasn`t, no reason for it at all but we just couldn`t get repeat bookings despite filling the place.
-
Yep, if it`s difficult to get a band through the door venues & promoters will go to the ones it`s easy to book.

Up to 9 weeks now - kind-of put me off.
