Yeah I did the copper tape thing, hasn`t completely eliminated it but has made it a lot quieter.

More than a large slice of paranoia over dropping & losing them. I`m fairly sure I`d manage to look after the cheapies well enough but that well known law would mean I`d drop & lose the ACS ones.

Would have been my answer too

They sound great as well, the bassist from a band I was on the same lineup a few times (name escapes me) used one and his sound was superb.

There’s def more than one way to play bass @CiciBass, the low-end world would be a boring place if we all played root notes like I do 😀

Yup, dangerously addictive little basses

I’m not that keen on what I’ve recently heard from them but will be interested to hear the difference not having Charlie makes to anything new.

Regular gauge strings are fine with the JMJ, I use regular Elixir rounds, no problems.

I had one, never found it lacking, though did find it a rather awkward sized amp to cart about - especially when racked. Re the SCR-DI and the high pitched squeal I’ve read - and experienced- that this occurs when power is insufficient, batteries low on juice or a PSU that is split to too many pedals.

He was rather emotional towards the end of the evening, which equates to a big loud soppy Welshman 🤣

And they were great last night as well. It’s much different seeing/hearing a band from an audience perspective than from onstage, the power and solidity of the songs and performance, especially from a 3 piece, well I was impressed. Tongue in cheek comment - I’m sure they were even better when I was with them 🤣

Last night my band played and the volume in the venue was such that my ears still feel blocked today. I have earplugs for playing with my deafening classic rock band which doesn’t gig (ACS ones) but from now on I’m taking a cheap pair to any gig I attend, whether I’m playing or not. It was only a small venue so I wouldn’t have thought it would be so loud - lesson learned, hopefully in time.

Thanks Dave

Just got in from our (The Spacewasters) first gig this year, and also our first since our singers motorcycle accident last year which sadly resulted in him having his leg amputated just below the knee. Was at The Black Heart in Camden, 4 bands on the bill including my old band Knock Off who were headlining. All played well, was a good evening, only downside was it was soooo loud, at some points on the other bands I couldn’t hear the vocals at all where the bass was just dominating the mix. We went down really well, prob the best of the night, and sold a good bit of our new merch so all well & good, especially with our newer material going down just as well as songs the band have had for over 10 years.

Just got home from my first gig with one of my JMJs and pleased to report that I still love these little basses, it just felt & sounded so right in the gig environment.

That`s one heavy stage prop, feel sorry for the roadies. Obviously not one of said roadies!

I really hope that I never have to smell that smell again, makes me shudder too.

Yep, I had the predecessor, the Classic 50s, def a very forward in your face tone (with a pick), and a very wide (44mm) neck, albeit shallower. I’d think that playing one finger style would tone down the aggression but still leave it nice & punchy in the mix.

I’m aware that it’s meant to be very uncool, especially for originals bands, but in lieu of a backdrop or bass drum skin (on multi band lineups) then at least it’s some publicity for what band the audience are watching.

Def, a right liberty, when I read Noel Monks (their manager) book and got to this part I was gobsmacked, how the other 3 could do that to him was disgusting.

I think I`d introduce said "mate" to Mr Clawhammer @Linus27 In an old band we had something similar, though a much diluted version of your experience, an old mate who was something of a whizz on lead guitar joined our band. He didn`t have a suitable guitar, an amp or transport, so guess who ended up providing all, yes me. He didn`t even set the gear up, when we got to gigs or rehearsals. Well after a while it got to me so I said to the rest of the band that I was leaving as I wouldn`t play in the band with him a minute longer. They said no we`ll fire him and did. It`s a shame he has so much talent but unfortunately the bottle - or can in his case - means more to him than anything else.

Shape selected, boost 2.6, 5 & treble were my settings.

The bass I had with the most individual stand out tone was also the most resonant bass I`ve had - my 1978 Precision. I loaned it to another bassist at a gig whose own bass took a knock rendering it unusable and he said he`d never had a bass resonate that much on his stomach & chest cavity before.
