  1. Pretty much the same for me.
  2. I remember back in my youth turning up to the studio and the producer being rather miffed that my intonation was out. I didn’t even know what intonation was, I just played the bass set up as it had been when I’d bought it. I think that’s my only faux-pas re studios.
  3. Going by what I`ve heard at The London Bass Guitar Show you`d probably be named as a bad bassist. I remember trying a bass out there and playing Warhead by The UK Subs with a plectrum and people were literally open-mouthed, seems I wasn`t a part of the slappers gang.
  4. The main thing I get from that is: “I wrote them for nothing. It just doesn’t seem right to pay these astronomical numbers of dollars for something I created for nothing.” Fair play, I see where he was coming from.
  5. I struggle with that big time, mainly as hearing wise I can never fully - or sometimes hardly - understand them.
  6. Hubba hubba, Marshall making Ampeg look positively tiny there. Am very envious, having heard a couple of bands use the full VBA stacks they are immense, VBC412 my fave ever cab.
  7. That second pic makes you look like you’re levitating.
  8. And the below, tho apparently it could also be about toast
  9. Def, really nice gesture that
  10. Sounds to me like the gain/drive is on - maybe the on/off switch for that has broken leaving it on.
  11. Motörhead - Ace of Spades currently on (10pm - 11pm)
  12. Yep, the moisture in the air is what chills the bones.
  13. My thoughts are not that far from Ampeg but seems to have more of a lower mid bias than that of Ampeg which seems higher.
  14. Yep I had mine set so that the loudest notes - usually the low G - pushed the needle into the red.
  15. Political views - at least in the punk scene anyway. Not so often linked to parties but more views of how poor things are and how they could be made better.
  16. Just shows sometimes we already have the instruments that we gel with best already. For me no matter how a bass sounds or looks if I don’t gel with the neck - including the finish on the neck - then it’s game over.
  17. I’ve a tear in my rotator cuff muscle in my right shoulder that over the years has affected my whole back with regards to posture amongst other stuff. This year I’ve also put my lower back out a few times including a bad one around Feb where I was in constant pain and had (and still have) restricted mobility, though fortunately not too bad. As such I’m now at the point where the weight of a bass is a very important factor, for this reason have gone short scale.
  18. I’d open eagerly and enjoy my new bass. When I’ve flown for gigs the bass has been in the hold at however many feet with I’m assuming no heating, I’ve had to use the bass the same day and never any issues.
  19. It’s funny but on the punk & rock scenes quite often the bands are the weird ones by being the most ordinary looking, in comparison to the audience.
  20. Looks like the Sires are worth checking out
  21. Yep it’s the pickup and pickup placement. The Precision is a very versatile instrument, ask the two JJs, Burnel & Jamerson, their sounds don’t have much in common with each other.
  22. Three things: Hearing the bass in Seasons of The Sun by Terry Jacks, I just loved the sound, no idea what it was but from then on I listened out for it in other songs. Seeing the “live” bit in the Bohemian Rhapsody video by Queen, I knew at that point I wanted to play music when I got older (and I could also hear John Deacons bass, that sound again). Hearing Pretty Vacant by The Sex Pistols, I now knew what type of music I wanted to play.
  23. Agree. Although I prefer Dolly Partons version as there’s a vulnerability to it that Whitney Houstons version doesn’t have, the latter is truly a vocal masterpiece.
  24. It’s most probably an easy thing to deal with, I had something similar with mine and Ashdown sorted it for me (bizarrely made a similar noise when the mute button was pressed). But I bought it new, if it had been used and played up like yours has after 2 days I’d more than likely want the seller to take it back.
  25. I’ve always thought of a Year I Started Playing bass, as in if I could have afforded anything when I started in 1980 at the age of 15 what would I have bought. Inevitably it would have been a Fender Precision but at 15 would I have gone white/rosewood or black/maple?
