And you probably can’t hear him when he asks for you to sign for the parcels. -
What would You call "Your doping" for bass playing?
Lozz196 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Been dry for nearly 16 years now, back in the drinking years it didn`t really matter what it was as long as it would achieve its aim, which was getting me drunk. -
Toneriders sound very close to the Fender Custom Shop 62s that came in the US Standards of 2013-16 but at a fraction of the price.
-
Yes, flew with mine a good few times, never any issues.

Yup, Ashdown are amazing. I’ve had to move on my heavier gear but my RM500 EVO-II still delivers. Edit - my ABM PRO NEO 210 cabs deliver as well.

I think that the post 2012 MIM Standards and the Players are very good basses. I`d say the Players are better due to the pickups, the ones in the pre-Players often sounded harsh to me whereas the ones in the Players much less so. I`m in agreement that the gap between the MIM and US is much less than it used to be, I had a Player as my backup/overseas bass and whenever I used it at no point did I think I was playing a lesser bass, just a slightly different one due to the thinner neck dimensions.

Yep, TC def the best of the ones I’ve tried.

My thoughts are that if Debbie Harry/a.n.other were to sing their old songs in a different way but in key I`d not see any real issues as voices will change over the years, it`s when they just sing out of key and are pretty dreadful to listen to that I think there`s a problem that they should acknowledge and work on how to address.

In my current gigging band at the audition (I really wanted the position) I set myself up so that I could see the drummers kick-drum foot, just worked it from there. I’ve never really had to work independently with him but when we’re working on new material I just do the same, really helps me.

Motley Crue & Def Leppard at Wembley Stadium last night. We got there just as Mammoth were finishing their set so couldn’t really rate/review them. 6:45 and Crue started, sounded good, Vince Neil maybe a bit quiet but the whole band were much better than the last couple of times I saw them (2007 & 2012), John 5 doing a great job on playing Mick Mars’ guitar lines. Woke the Crue will never be with Tommy Lees titty-cam, but I don’t think anyone would really expect them to be, they’re stuck in the 80s and seem to love it. 8:45 and it was Def Leppards turn and they were amazing, the sound much better than Crue. It’s a double headline tour so think this more to do with music style & musicianship rather than headline v other. Rick Allen’s electric kit had no boom to it at all, plus where Nikki Sixx of Crues bass also a tad boomy Rick Savage of Leppards bass was for me just right, solid, there but not getting in the way. So the foundations for Leppards sound were clearer and crisper giving a great platform for guitars & vocals to sit on top which they did amazingly. I think I’m going to have to get at least Hysteria & Pyromania as I really enjoyed DL.

Well the aim was 2, one main one backup. First weighed 8lbs1, second 8lbs5, was fine with that but then one came up weighing 7lbs15, given that I’ve “gone Mustang” due to back issues it made sense to get it. Do I have a fave, yes the first one as these little basses have given me a new lease of life on playing in bands, realistically I was possibly going to have to stop being in bands so I’ll forever love the first one for what it signifies to me.

3 x Fender JMJ Mustang basses, all in black, all strung with Elixir steel rounds.
-
Yes at present the basses I use in my bands are Fender JMJ Mustangs, I have three, one for home use two for gigging.
-
The lows are def deeper on a Jazz, I really like where they sit, and is probably why I’ve always scooped the mids and boosted lows/highs on my Precisions. I’m sure if Jazz basses came stock with Precision width necks I’d have been a Jazz player.
-
A, I just figure they’ll last longer that way, tho have nothing to substantiate the theory

Do You need to wear glasses when playing bass?
Lozz196 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
Not yet though middle aged eyesight is getting worse. Only need them for reading and phone/pc so I suppose at some point the fretboard may become blurred. -
Same, just use regular scale on my Mustangs
-
Can`t remember where it was but I read something along the lines of if you want a Precision to sit in the mix without jumping out at you to cut at around 400/500, whereas with a Jazz to achieve the same cut at around 1000/1200. Certainly worked for me, up until that point I`d never been able to get a Jazz to sound as I wanted whereas this just delivered.

How do we get ourselves and our rigs to rehearsals or gigs?
Lozz196 replied to kwmlondon's topic in General Discussion
I have actually played a pub that`s about half a mile from my place. I drove. I was depping for a covers band doing two 1hr sets. I had two basses, a combo, an extension speaker, and a case containing leads etc. If it had been a 30min originals set with provided backline I like to think I would have walked. -
Just a song which has got lead singer & both backing singers on the choruses, plus a lead guitar solo, this covers everything we do.

A good home has been found: Tanglewood TW55A Acoustic electric bass
