  1. When I was briefly playing guitar I used a BluGuitar Amp1 - size & weight of a lap-top, sounded just like a Marshall JCM900. Not cheap (£600+ second hand) but worth every penny imo. And a good advantage is that it can be connected straight to FOH without a speaker so monitors can do on-stage sound.
  2. Out of all the flats I’ve tried Rotos are fairly high on the tension
  3. Def, it was the wrong crowd for them but that doesn`t make it the crowds fault, go on, play your best and win over some of them.

Same for me Mick, my Mustangs have given me the opportunity to keep playing with bands, I think I’d have had to stop otherwise, though would still have played at home.

Nice one Dave, hope it’s the solution for you.
  6. I call my fave 2015 Fender US Standard Precision Old Friend, seems fitting as we’ve done so much together which has all been good.
  7. I do but the bass hangs in the way, plus the back pocket easier to get in/out quickly. I do always carry my picks in said pick pocket when not gigging tho.
  8. Oh dear oh dear oh dear, maybe they weren’t the right band for the event.
  9. Well I’m quite fortunate in having found two already. If my back weren’t in such a state it would be my 2015 Fender US Standard Precision. However my back is in a state so it’s my Fender JMJ Mustang.
  10. I always keep my spare picks in my back pocket when gigging. Nice & easy to get to.
  11. I have a couple of times but still not enough top end. I wonder if my top end hearing is a bit iffy as even with steel rounds I boost highs & hi-mids a fair bit.
  12. Nope, despite many tries over the years flats aren’t for me. I get the initial “oh these feel nice I might keep them” but always end up with the same conclusion, not enough high end for me so off they come.
  13. And we still don’t know what it is yet.
  14. It`s kind of a Sparctacus thing isn`t it, we`re all right, because we all make the right choices for ourselves - and these may vary from situation to situation as well as from bassist to bassist.
  15. Doesn`t bother me, my current 2 gigging basses are Fender Justin Meldal-Johnsen Mustangs, I bought them as needed to go smaller/lighter, had tried one briefly and liked it and these get such good write ups I thought they were the way to go. Although JMJ is fairly high profile I`ve not - to my knowledge - got any material with him playing on, I`ve just got the basses as they are incredibly good.
  16. That looks great Stew, especially having the one port where the voltage can be selected.
  17. My best ever tone just with bass & amp, no pedals was through three different rigs. in order of when I had them: Hartke HA4000 with XL210 & 115 cabs Marshall DBS7400 with VBC412 cab Ashdown ABM600 with ABM210 & 410 cabs I can always get my sound or near enough from pretty much any bass amp set-up but those three rigs really excelled, the feel and depth of sound was better than any other set-ups I`ve had. For me I just like the depth that multiple speakers all going at once deliver, they don`t have to be daftly loud, just to match the kit but there`s a bigness and solidity to a lot of speakers all going at once that I love. So having said that I will now be gigging with a Sansamp.
  18. Same, prob not worn mine in some 30 years, will never part with it though
  19. Was an 18th birthday present, very cool & trendy in mid 80s
  20. Dunno if this look was goth, pre-goth or punk/goth
  21. I put my leads/pedals/spares etc in a Wenger rucksack. There are plenty of compartments to keep everything separate, only difficulty is remembering what goes where. They’re not cheap (£90ish) but they’re incredibly good quality, I’ve had mine now for something like 6 years and 3 of those were gigging pretty much every weekend, it still looks virtually new.
  22. I moved recently to the Fender JMJ Mustangs, not because of arthritis but bad back, needed a smaller, lighter bass, and one where I could play more with my elbow by my side. I find it incredibly easy to play and it has a Precision type neck, for those who like Jazz necks I believe the Vintera range are thinner.
  23. That’s pretty much how I have the controls on a Jazz, maybe a tad less at say 35%, I find it’s very similar sounding to a Precision but with a more defined sound.
  24. I think Steve Severin of Siouxsie & The Banshees used to (maybe still does) use up strokes all the time.
